psweber··on Acceptance of evolution by high school students: Is religion the key factor?
I went to 12 years of Catholic education and the mindset you describe was never mentioned once.
psweber··on Jerry Lee Lewis has died
There is some kind of legal issue with the recording. I didn't look too deep. There were sixteen tracks recorded. Thirteen were on the real album, and one that had a recording fault was released later.

Here's the songs on the original release: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXRKTcRs-Xs7RqWKl8hqt...

psweber··on Figma Alternatives
Until you need a team, Figma is free.
psweber··on Common UI/UX mistakes devs make
It doesn't say a word about devs. This could probably use a title change. It's gonna make everyone defensive.
psweber··on Google bans ZeroHedge and The Federalist from its ad platform
> We worked with them to address issues on their site related to the comments section.

> As the comment section has now been removed, we consider this matter resolved and no action will be taken.

wow

psweber··on For black CEOs in Silicon Valley, humiliation is a part of doing business
> the workplace inherently has an underlying adversarial quality that can provide a never-ending supply of "microaggressions"

Did you pick this idea up somewhere else or think of it yourself? I've not heard that concept, and it makes way too much sense.

psweber··on Anders Tegnell defends Sweden's virus approach
We're more susceptible to god complex because we're highly skilled at one thing already. We also don't want to admit to ourselves that we're living through a confusing time that we can't make sense of in them moment.
psweber··on Leave Facebook
I went through that process a year ago. It was a good amount of work. When I was done, I realized I wasn't getting anything out of Facebook and deleted.
psweber··on A third of Americans now show signs of clinical anxiety or depression
I'm not gonna disagree, but I think the difference now is an extreme focus on the self and an impossible expectation to feel happy and content.
psweber··on Joe Rogan Is the New Mainstream Media
Is the back catalog valuable without a system like YouTube's? There are countless small clips of the Joe Rogan show that are constantly recommended by the algorithm. Is there any indication that Spotify is capable of replacing that?
psweber··on Cognitive biases and principles that affect UX
Right on!
psweber··on Cognitive biases and principles that affect UX
Removing the emojis in the ordered list at the top would be really helpful. My brain wouldn't let me properly read that simple list with them there. I get that they are trying to introduce the way-finding anchor link piece, but it really gets in the way of the content.
psweber··on Twitter Will Allow Employees to Work at Home Forever
You're describing the status quo before the crisis. We weren't suffering from excess happiness and satisfaction. It's time for something new. The new things are yet to be determined.
psweber··on On responses to “Bye, Amazon”
Hero of our own story bias? The incentives are lined up to make naivete very comfortable for some people.
psweber··on Office noise generator
Check out Zilent switches, too. Quiet and tactile.

psweber··on The future of design tools
Probably because it's from a visual designer's perspective. There is nothing in the article about prototyping. It was focused on layout and developer hand-off. Framer is behind on those fronts, but they have a pretty different paradigm.
psweber··on DuckDuckGo is good enough for regular use
It's not going to be convenient to get off any Google product. If privacy and escaping algorithm bubbles is important enough to you, DDG can probably be "good enough".
psweber··on People of Las Vegas
When I went in, they just checked for alcohol in your bags. They didn't ask for any proof of being a guest.
psweber··on People of Las Vegas
Dang. I was just there last year, and it was so nice.
psweber··on People of Las Vegas
I recommend going to Vegas and not doing any of the "normal" stuff. There is great camping 25 minutes from the strip. You can park on the strip for free and go to the hotel pools. Tons of a beautiful hiking and climbing.
psweber··on Design systems, agile, and industrialization
Same story with "consumers"
psweber··on Hundreds of workers defy Amazon rules to protest company's climate failures
Who are "the people who stand in the way of using normal political mechanisms to regulate carbon emissions"?
psweber··on Design Tips for Developers
> I'm not going to go into UX (even though it's more important) because I think learning how to think in simple design patterns is the baseline for creating usable products.

In my experience, engineers are ‘How it works’ people way more than they are ‘How it looks’ people. The UX article they didn’t write would be more helpful. It’d be hard to write, and I understand why they didn’t.

There’s a lot of good UI kits available now. Those open source projects need better UX way before they need better icons, fonts, logos, etc.

psweber··on How housing became the world’s biggest asset class
Isn't ride sharing just taxis? Someone will "re-invent" it.
psweber··on Neumorphism in User Interfaces
FWIW there is already some push back on this trend in design circles. I just want buttons and form elements to look like you can interact with them again.
psweber··on Warren Buffett is spending billions to make Iowa 'the Saudi Arabia of wind'
Pretty good article about the bird problem: https://www.audubon.org/news/will-wind-turbines-ever-be-safe...
psweber··on I stood up to my boss, then he got promoted
I've been this person a few times, so I sympathize while seeing all the mistakes they made.

Some people have no problem with office politics. Some people don't notice or seem unaffected by it. I have a hero complex (or a sense of ethics if you want to be generous), and I can't be a full time employee anymore. Freelance work helps me keep boundaries in my work.

psweber··on Thousands flock to Wikipedia founder's 'Facebook rival'
I fantasize about a product like that sometimes. A private, pay social site geared towards families. Your family pays a yearly subscription. Photo/video sharing. Event planning. Family news timeline. Everything purely linear. No manipulation to maximize engagement. No ads. Just real information about your family that you care about.

One side of my family has about 30 people that are all willing to travel to meet somewhere every few years. Compared to that expense, it would be trivial for us to share the cost of such a service, even if it were a few hundreds dollars a year.

psweber··on Open Letter to the Linux Foundation
They gave rise to Snapchat, knowing that they'd want to control what went on the record. Now they're the first to figure out the new rules of public communication.
