programbreeding··on USA Facts – Federal, state, and local data from government sources
>A quick third take away seems to be the unprecedented rise in non-cash government aid (food stamps) during the Obama administration. The data is there, needs more analyzing of course.

I'm not sure you can say it like that. It went up 2.13x from 1980 to 1990, 1.43x from 1990 to 2000, 1.93x from 2000 to 2010, and 1.07x from 2010 to 2015.

There was a big jump of 1.93x from 2000 to 2010, but that is only 2 years of Obama's first term. What really happened there is likely the housing crisis/market crash in 2008. I don't see how that's related to Obama. It only went up 1.07x (the lowest amount for each of the 10-year segments) for the remainder of his term, and it made a higher jump from 1980 to 1990.

I experienced this as well. I have a different account logged in on mobile than what is logged in on my desktop. I wouldn't say things were drastically different, but when there was a location with a ton of activity (like OSU or the American flag towards the end), I saw different views between them.
programbreeding··on Ask HN: Do you still use browser bookmarks?
I've read through the webstore link and the github page, and I'm clearly missing something. I don't see an option to save to folder via fuzzy search. In fact, I don't see options at all. I see a list of my bookmark folders with a search at the top. If I actually click on any of my bookmark folders then it just closes the menu.

It doesn't let me navigate through my folders, and it never opens anything.

Edit: Redundant

programbreeding··on SIP and Fragments: Together Forever?
As someone responsible for an IP-PBX that is about to reach 3,000 endpoints, thank you for posting this. I will absolutely be planning some pressure testing and setting up monitoring for it.
programbreeding··on Tell HN: WarGames (1983) is mind-blowing
The Wizard is the best full feature advertisement ever made.

I'm making a joke but it actually is really good. I have re-watched it as an adult and I still loved it, but it feels like the type of movie that wouldn't be good if you didn't have the nostalgia factor.

programbreeding··on New GitHub Terms of Service require removing many open-source works
Nothing wrong with gitlab, I personally use their self-hosted product. But just a reminder to all that they lost a bunch of data 1 month ago today [0].

However they were completely open and transparent about what happened, and they handled it as well as they could have.

programbreeding··on Long-winded speech could be early sign of Alzheimer's disease, says study
I'm a longtime HN lurker that has never signed up for an account.

I created one just now to reply and say thank you for linking this. I have always suffered from these exact symptoms and I knew something wasn't "right," but I could never put it in to words. You did for me.

I'm bookmarking it now so I can talk to my doctor about it! Granted I'll forget about it for like 3 days, until I remember it randomly while doing something else, only to forget about it again before I ever commit it to memory. But still, thank you!
