princetontiger··on Ask HN: Europe to East Coast, does it make sense to move at 50?
You should do it.

Princeton NJ is a beautiful part of the state, and close to the university.

Not sure where you will live, but Nassau Street has a quaint charm. There's plenty to do, and you are a 90 minute train ride to Manhattan.

Don't let the comments discourage you. People are just blowing off steam from the roe v wade ruling.

princetontiger··on Equihax
This really pisses me off. It's only a matter of time before some random person opens up a cellphone, utlity, or bank account... or worse. Completely messed up.

Everyone American should be scared shitless at this incompetence. It's going to cost everyone thousands of dollars over their lives for credit fraud protection. Just another expense to add.

princetontiger··on Hedge Fund Uses Algae to Reap 21% Return
The best hedge funds should be 2x the SPY... It would beat every body. However, clients won't pay for this. People spend so much effort and don't beat the market, but clients want people to work on stuff...
princetontiger··on How Do Venture Capitalists Make Decisions?
Yikes. Look institutionalized. The big money is made during the troughs when hand shacks work: 70s, early 90s, early 00s.

At the end of the day, most VC valuations are pulled out of a hat. There's a reason why $1B has become a sexy handle: people ascribed some type of value to this valuation.

princetontiger··on NASA admits it doesn’t have the funding to land humans on Mars
Last I checked, Bolden/NASA has spent time gallivanting around the world trying to be inclusive (Middle East, Asia, Africa, etc.). NASA is a larger allegory for the USA. This entire country is toast in 100 years. It's similar to the last Spanish galleons leaving Cordoba. In 2011, we have a similar Galleon Moment. STS-135 will end up being the flight from NASA, ever. To digest this fact makes me extremely sad.

There is a reason that the UK did not have a space program, but lead the exploration of the West in the 1800s. Britons had intestinal fortitude during the Victorian era, and this same urge moved to Americans after WW2.

princetontiger··on What is an Initial Coin Offering and How Does it Work?
How would someone convert crypto currency to real cash? is it even possible?
princetontiger··on 6 Corporations Control 90% of the Media in America
Why is GE on this? They don't own NBC. Should be updated for 2017. It's not 2011 anymore.
princetontiger··on Once a Model City, Hong Kong Is in Trouble
Exactly. I've been to police states. They aren't fun.

Look at the state of countries. Most are in chaos 100% of the time. France went through a huge revolution in the 1700 and 1800s and still kept First World status. Chinese people dream of Paris. China has been mired in Third World statues for centuries, and will remain in it.

I've traveled around the world, and there's a huge difference in people. Some people understand the world and how it works (the West), while others don't.

There's a line INFINITELY long line to settle in the West, and ZERO to settle anywhere else (unless you're a European who wants to backpack around some third world country)

I grew up thinking that all countries were the same, but after traveling, it only drove in me further how sacred the Western world is. I am very proud of it.

princetontiger··on Once a Model City, Hong Kong Is in Trouble
I agree completely.

In European/Anglo countries, the ruling elite give back. Check out Grand Central, Rockefeller Center, the large parks and gardens throughout the great countries of the world. The ruling elite in Asia don't care about others.

princetontiger··on Once a Model City, Hong Kong Is in Trouble
Dude.... We (the West) wrote the Japanese and Korean constitution. Read a book. Without US soldiers in those countries, they wouldn't be where they are today.

US = Japan Germany's Weimer constitution formed the basis for Korea's

princetontiger··on Once a Model City, Hong Kong Is in Trouble
I love both these comments. China doesn't have private ownership. it's still communist, right?
princetontiger··on Why Amazon is eating the world
If amazon gets too large, the government would step in...

Also, humans are pretty smart. A year ago, people were super negative on Walmart. Target will be able to compete, and so will many others.

princetontiger··on On Campuses Far From China, Still Under Beijing’s Watchful Eye
China doesn't represent Anglo Saxon culture or ideals. Canada, NZ, Australia, the UK and the US are the reason we have freedom of everything.
princetontiger··on Suicide of an Uber engineer: Widow blames job stress
Get the hell out of SV. It's become a pressure cooker because of many, many reasons.
princetontiger··on Tesla owner asks $1m in Model X fiery crash with Falcon Wing doors not opening
\maybe they have a different safety standard in china lol
princetontiger··on How Utah Keeps the American Dream Alive
SLC suffers from inversion, and this article fails to address it... Would never live there. Worst air quality in the nation during the winter.
princetontiger··on Staying Rich Without Manufacturing Will Be Hard
This is super interesting... apparently we have also the lost ability to find specialized welders for many naval vessels... starting salaries are around $300K for the right folks in the US. hell of an offer indeed
princetontiger··on Ed Logg's plan form for Atari Asteroids
the western world has no limit and some of the smartest people with intestinal fortitude. Rome had air conditioning and large centralized armies, just like to present day
princetontiger··on Ask HN: How did employees do after the Jet.com acquisition?
I know a person who works there, and he has never mentioned it once. I presume if it was F-U money, there would be some conspicuous consumption. He joined a year before the acquisition.
princetontiger··on I am an Uber survivor
I'm glad more of this stuff is coming out. As a male, I've been demeaned by a woman at one of the largest tech companies on earth. I ended up quitting, and I last I heard that woman was demoted/fire.

Our media is super powerful, and I love getting more of this out. 1984 can't happen with a free press.

princetontiger··on An Open Letter to the Uber Board and Investors
Silicon Valley for the past five years has been afflicted by Wall Street ethics. I've seen this first hand at a few SV companies. As a male, I've actually faced reverse harassment. Never worked at Uber, but I'm speaking of much larger SV companies. HR is useless.

Silicon Valley is no different than any other place in the World. Just because people think they are "changing" the world doesn't mean ethics need to be on the line.

princetontiger··on How to get rich in America
This article is about employers hiring Ivy League graduates. Why is this news? The phenomenon is just as acute in SV as it is on Wall Street.

The Tier 1 schools in the US are the Ivy League, MIT, and Stanford.

Getting into these great schools starts by being incredibly precious in elementary school and middle school, and really accelerating the positive energy and focus in high school.

princetontiger··on The Parachute Generation

princetontiger··on New H1-B Visa bill doubles the salary requirements to $130K/yr
$130K is not barely livable.
princetontiger··on Chronic sleep deprivation suppresses immune system
I sleep 8 hours and wake up automatically. If I get 6 or less, it feels like a bus hit me.
princetontiger··on Shoes.com shuts down
I just got laid off from a large public tech company, and there was zero severance in the email.
princetontiger··on Shoes.com shuts down
This is sad to here. Roger is the man. I remember visiting him when he ran Coastal.
princetontiger··on What I Wish I'd Known About Equity Before Joining a Unicorn
Never work at a startup. A book could be written about the pervasive amount of bullshit and lying that exists in startups. Many of the people enfolded in these vehicles are no longer passionate about tech, but rather passionate about money.
princetontiger··on What I Wish I'd Known About Equity Before Joining a Unicorn
I would never work for a start up or a startup environment. A book could be written about the bullshit and lying that goes on in some of these companies.
princetontiger··on Finding an Alternative to Mac OS X
Funny that this got written. I've looked at switching from macOS to Windows 10.

My first operating system was Windows 95. I then upgraded to 98, and later XP. I decided to go with a Mac in 2008 after Windows Vista just couldn't get itself together.
