primozcigler··on Show HN: Remove unused css with Purgecss
I'll take a look at it, I'm quite obsessed with the perf and I've been giving talks about uncss some time ago.

How is this tool/lib different from the other similar tools?

primozcigler··on The ultimate guide to image optimization
We focused in the online tools only, because otherwise you have to split by OS etc.

And in the desktop tools you usually have more control over the quality which makes it impossible to compare to each other.

btw I tried guetzli a while ago, it was a joke. Lots of hype, much worse results compared to tinypng for example. And it took minutes to process 2 mpix image on MBP.

Most of the article is platform-agnostic, because in the first part it covers the image formats, resizing down the the viewport/container and the online tools. None of that has to do a thing with WP. The last part only are WP plugins. You can skip that part easily :)

What exactly do you have in mind? I am not sure if I understand your question? What exactly do you use yourself?

Full disclaimer: guide's co-author here and proteusthemes.com business owner.

I know some people here will rage that this is not "PRO" stuff. At the same time, I see so many people who call themselves web professionals, failing to do the most basic things regarding the image optimization. A full week of work went into writing this article and the entire research. It is, to my knowledge, one of the most comprehensive solutions.

In a week since we've published it over 7k viewed the article and we're getting a great feedback. And we've already iterated it a little bit from the feedback we've received.

Thanks, I am here to discuss things further :)

Oh thanks, great to hear you find it valuable!
primozcigler··on Firebase
Doesn't matter? The beauty of Firebase is that it doesn't care about your stack. As long as you can communicate with it, you're good to go.
primozcigler··on How my team moved from loud co-working and never looked back
This is just a quick writeup how larger coworking with open space didn't work for us. Ignore the 2nd part of the article as it is relevant only to locals.
primozcigler··on How I doubled the battery life on my Mac by closing one tab in Chrome
It is indeed the page for me. I profiled the page, even found the function. It seems like the events are fired again and again, multiple times per MILIsecond. Here is the screenshot http://awesomescreenshot.com/0375n2a4c4

And the CPU profile if anyone will analyse it further: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/47486136/CPU-20160217T17...

primozcigler··on How I doubled the battery life on my Mac by closing one tab in Chrome
I will do that probably within a day or two.
primozcigler··on How I doubled the battery life on my Mac by closing one tab in Chrome
Yes. But sometimes you will open up a website in a new tab. It won't be happening nothing special there, as least not visually. So you will assume it doesn't hurt performance/battery of your laptop.

But if the developer of that site left somewhere in JS something like while(true) {...} that page will drain your battery, even if you're not looking at that specific tab. And even if you are in other app than Chrome.

primozcigler··on How I doubled the battery life on my Mac by closing one tab in Chrome
Exactly. The point is that even if you have 100 tabs open, maybe only 1 will eat 80% of CPU and other 99 will require the rest 20%.

My point was that you cannot simply see the things clearly from the Activity Monitor. And many people are not aware that the Task manager exists in Chrome.

primozcigler··on How I doubled the battery life on my Mac by closing one tab in Chrome
Well, I can confirm this happens for me on laptop. When I came to work after writing this post, I checked the page mentioned in the article again on my ubuntu at work (desktop machine) and the metrics were nothing special.
primozcigler··on How I doubled the battery life on my Mac by closing one tab in Chrome
Agreed. It will work in win/linux as well, as the Chrome Task manager is available everywhere you can install Chrome.
