primax··on Eridani-speak – make your LLM talk like Rocky from Project Hail Mary
Found this via Reddit, I am not the author.
primax··on Tim Cook's Impeccable Timing
Yes I would say any honest reading of Apple's position in the last 30 years is they are not a zero to one company, they are a 0.5 to 1 company.

They take great ideas, cut half the functionality out, put it in a shiny white and aluminium case and make it fashionable.

primax··on ChatGPT Images 2.0
Every technological advance in this space has caused harm to someone.

The advent of digital systems harmed artists with developed manual artistic skills.

The availability of cheap paper harmed paper mills hand-crafting paper.

The creation of paper harmed papyrus craftsmen.

The invention of papyrus really probably pissed off those who scraped the hair off thin leather to create vellum.

My point is that in line with Jevon's paradox there is always a wave of destruction that occurs with technological transformation, but we almost always end up with more jobs created by the technology in the middle and long term.

primax··on Claude Code to be removed from Anthropic's Pro plan?
Devils advocate here - pro and max tier customers for all the major inference providers are loss leaders from the data we have been able to figure out, and reverse engineer. They are effectively a marketing exercise.

The real profitability is selling tokens to enterprise, and enterprise demand is growing so fast that they are short on the total amount of tokens they can generate per minute, and are prioritising rationally - enterprise gets a better experience - instead of optimizing for their lowest paying (and most loss leading) customers.

We are in a hardware crunch right now but that won't be forever, and eventually (likely 2028) we will get experiences like we got in January from pro-sumer accounts again.

primax··on Meta will shut down VR Horizon Worlds access June 15
It's not really netiquette to accuse people of AI generated comments unless it's clear
primax··on Montana passes Right to Compute act (2025)
Well, there probably are some in there. Data centre designers, comms experts, architects, electricians, etc. Lot of smaller organisations benefiting from the work.
primax··on Across the US, people are dismantling and destroying Flock surveillance cameras
It had it coming.
primax··on Microsoft's Copilot chatbot is running into problems
It's good for creating meeting notes and action lists in Teams, but that's about it.

MS use of AI in apps really feels like their Google+ moment.

primax··on Majority of CEOs report zero payoff from AI splurge
Given the rate of change that is happening with everything AI now I'm a little surprised that the rate is that high.

I'm fairly confident it'll improve over time though.

primax··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
I'm building a scraper in Golang based on Colly to do two things:

* Automatically train the scraper on the structure of the page to acquire the data you want, and

* Clean and structure the data into a format suitable to go into a relational database

I got sick of doing all that manually for some pricing data I wanted to monitor on some suppliers sites, and I've always wanted to contribute more to open source and give back.

primax··on From $479 to $2,800 a month for ACA health insurance next year
I'd recommend you listen to the consumer's of those systems, instead of American pundits talking about them.

Our system in Australia is absolutely fantastic, and far cheaper in taxes than you'd think.

primax··on VPN use surges in UK as new online safety rules kick in
I'd rather live through a financial crisis than fascism, thanks.
primax··on Baby is healed with first personalized gene-editing treatment
> There's no evidence to support that gene therapy will ever be inexpensive. We can merely say that the process may become less shockingly expensive.

A similar thing has been said about so many cutting edge therapies and technologies in the past that I think you'll end up being quite surprised.

Eventually someone will invent a machine that spits these therapies out like espresso machines.

primax··on Show HN: Muscle-Mem, a behavior cache for AI agents
I think if you got some experience in the industries this serves then you'd reconsider your opinion
primax··on NotebookLM Audio Overviews are now available in over 50 languages
I use it for loading up source materials and notes for a DnD campaign I run. Then I ask it questions when I need off the cuff answers, instead of researching.

It's also good for when I can't think of anything (like a background NPCs name and backstory)

primax··on Vacheron Constantin breaks the world record for most complicated wristwatch
There is a giant world of high end replica watches that are so close to the original that they take expert mechanics to tell apart. I've got a few $500 watches that are identical to $10-40k watches.

Worth checking out reptime to scratch that itch without selling a kidney.

primax··on AstroForge selects target for “high risk, seat of the pants” asteroid mission
We're running out of critical metals at the price point we want to mine them. There are more that will become viable when the price goes up.
primax··on AstroForge selects target for “high risk, seat of the pants” asteroid mission
Bringing it back is a lot more energy efficient than getting up there in the first place.
primax··on Railroad Tycoon II
I'd suggest trying Railway Empire and it's sequel. It's the closest successor I've found.
primax··on Jellyfin: We're Good, Seriously
The creeping enshittification of Plex is really putting me off.

I know you can unfuck it, however I don't want to reward that toxic behaviour with usage

primax··on Z-Library admins "escape house arrest" after judge approves U.S. extradition
That's hard to trace if using monero however
primax··on Show HN: ThreadQuilt: AI-Free Thread Aggregator
Looks like you're getting hugged to death right now. Looking forward to checking this out in a few days once things settle around
primax··on The regenerative urban garden I: No-till gardening
That's pretty much the reason farmers till too. But that doesn't stop the cult of no till thinking they know better
primax··on Economic Termites: Monopolies not noticeable enough for most of us
The same amount.

The 4 companies are competing for their share of the existing business

primax··on MIT abandons requirement of DEI statements for hiring and promotions
You were the last western country to deal with slavery, and it took a civil war to force the issue.

Then reconstruction was ended due to a political backlash from the south.

Don't pretend this is all over.

primax··on MIT abandons requirement of DEI statements for hiring and promotions
America is the most likely country for this to happen to, due to the unresolved issues surrounding slavery and the abandonment of reconstruction after the civil war. This is compounded when viewed through the USAs founding mythology.

Other countries have done worse, but they haven't done so as hypocritically as the United States.

primax··on Show HN: Kaytu – Optimizing cloud costs using actual usage data
GCPs partner team is mostly useless but they should at least be able to do that for you
primax··on So you want to scrape like the big boys (2021)
Is there a conference you would suggest that is the closest to scraping, generally speaking? As far as I know there isn't a scraping conference or strong community anywhere, and I'd like to learn and improve my skills.
primax··on IBM to buy HashiCorp in $6.4B deal
Simply put, IBM doesn't have the kind of foresight and restraint to do something like that and not fuck it up
primax··on Ask HN: What is the most useless project you have worked on?
So, basically throw out everything that made them unique and differentiated, and do things like the Germans do.
