praneshp··on No Thank You, Mr. Pecker
Yeah, that was more open and shut (court orders them to do something, they refused. Play stupid games win stupid prizes)
praneshp··on McClatchy Follows BuzzFeed, Vice, and Others in Cutting Staff
One reason could be that people of those demographics are more outspoken on twitter.
praneshp··on The heroes of the Thai cave rescue
> Why would you attack some guy trying to help you achieve your goal of rescuing the trapped boys, and call him names on twitter

Something I've been wondering about too.

praneshp··on Why Are Young People Pretending to Love Work?
Meh, I am an utterly replaceable software writer at a SF company, and feel like the OP wrote down what I was feeling.

It's fairly easy to find out where I work, and I think you'd agree that I'm not curing cancer or anything. I do wake up Monday mornings excited about work (and try to change teams/companies when that stops being true)

praneshp··on US shutdown: Flight delays caused by staff shortages
Senators/house reps being paid has a simple reason I think: The richer ones will simply wait out the poorer ones if pay is suspended.
praneshp··on US shutdown: Flight delays caused by staff shortages
I lived there for a couple of years for grad school, and flew out about once a week in my final semester for interviews. The airport is a super well-oiled machine, it doesn;t really feel different from say, San Francisco. IMO it feels way more comfortable than LaGuardia, which is easily one of the worst airports I've been at in the US.
praneshp··on BuzzFeed to Cut 15% of Its Workforce
If that means BuzzfeedNews has to shut down due to lack of money, it's a stupid idea.
praneshp··on Facebook's '10 Year Challenge' Is Just a Harmless Meme–Right?
If you were going for a joke, nice one!

If serious, I can confirm that I saw this on reddit a few days ago too.

praneshp··on Potential Employer Cancels Return Flight
> But at the same time I'm really having a hard time coming up with a reasonable explanation for this from the company's point of view.

It's that OP is lying. I take BART in the SF bay area about twice a month, and have ran into the same scammer a few times. He claims he has to go see his kids, has $xx money for a southwest plane and needs $yy waving around something that says southwest on it.

praneshp··on GoDaddy injecting JavaScript into websites and how to stop it
New CEO (Blake Irving)
praneshp··on Google cans the Chromecast Audio
If you're making those decisions because you're bitter over Google Reader, I think Google's not the one that's hurting.....
praneshp··on EFF Responds to Bird's Legal Threats to Boing Boing
> No, because if a scooter is just left lying around on the street it is abandoned property and so generally there is no law against taking it.

Is there a citation for this in CA? can you just take abandoned property and claim it as yours without a single paperwork step?

praneshp··on Warby Parker built a 1,400-employee company by focusing on team culture
There used to be a popular video going around about how one company owns 80% of the market, but that number is somewhat inflated.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/does-luxottica-own-80-of-t...

praneshp··on Netflix stops paying the ‘Apple tax’ on its $853M in annual iOS revenue
Ban them for what? It's not like Netflix is refusing to pay the tax and keep using a feature.
praneshp··on Japan to withdraw from the International Whaling Commission
> Of course it is problematic that land owners are actually rewarded for their wealth

No, they are rewarded for playing along with whatever scheme's currently running. Stop trying to demonize them.

praneshp··on Ask HN: What skills to acquire in 2019?
In addition to the other replies, read up the wiki on r/personalfinance
praneshp··on Ask HN: What skills to acquire in 2019?
It's really not. I used to do it, and then quit it. Nobody even tried to armtwist me into not leaving (except for asking for 30-day notice)
praneshp··on Ask HN: Famous anonymous inventions other than Bitcoin?
> " but people respect it and don't talk about it."
praneshp··on SIPC Says It Has Serious Concerns About Robinhood's New Product
Thanks for making this point. After the Amazon/Apple hack fiasco, Bloomberg is a bottom-tier news site for me. They have clearly demonstrated (IMO) their lack of integrity or competence (or both).
praneshp··on Does Australia's access and assistance law impact 1Password?
I reached out to Fastmail, who referred me to https://fastmail.blog/2018/09/10/access-and-assistance-bill/
praneshp··on Australia's tech industry savages Labor for backing bill
I reached out to Fastmail support, who referred me to this post they wrote: https://fastmail.blog/2018/09/10/access-and-assistance-bill/
praneshp··on Why Not to Use Quora
I wish you had phrased your answer better, but this is exactly what I thought of the OP's comment (and the vast majority of former power users' complaints, as someone that used to hang out there since the early days).
praneshp··on Movim – Federated, open-source alternative to Tumblr
Ha, but their answer to a similar comment (on another comment thread) is that they are benevolent or some crap like that.

This is just a group of devs looking to pad their resume, not build something for everyone to use. (not that there is anything wrong with that)

praneshp··on Movim – Federated, open-source alternative to Tumblr
Consider their install steps; their entire market is just the people who can follow those steps, and a large percentage of those people would be pissed off about the messaging, if not about the fact that you cannot block JS
praneshp··on Source: Google Hangouts for consumers will be shutting down sometime in 2020
> What's really funny about this is that video conferencing during meetings is really good inside of google

I've heard the opposite of this from some googler friends.

praneshp··on Two Celebrities Charged with Unlawfully Touting Coin Offerings
And not just A-listers like these two. Jenny McCarthy is B-list at best, and she has huge influence over the anti-vaccer movement.
praneshp··on Project Fi Is Now Google Fi
I got a new phone less than a month ago, and this was a reason I got an android one phone. I can just use my phone (and unrelated, Uber) when I go to India (or anywhere else so far).
praneshp··on Project Fi Is Now Google Fi
Once you hit 6gb, you stop paying till you hit 15gb. After that, you're rate limited, or you can call up Fi support and have them put you at full speed and charge the usual $10/gb
praneshp··on The Google Cemetery – A list of dead Google products and why they died
Well hipchat to slack is probably explained by the buyout :-)
praneshp··on The Google Cemetery – A list of dead Google products and why they died
Is there a reason you linked ibm here? Please elaborate for the not so smart.
