pouzy··on Turn any API into an MCP server
There's a lot of fuss around MCP, but all I've seen about it is local MCP servers that you have to download and run.

I've stumbled upon this, tried it on a small api documentation of ours and it seems to work well!

Seems like a good way to make tools you use regularly but that are a bit old school become compatible with Cursor and Claude

Seems like the paint is still fresh and they're actively developing it

pouzy··on Why I love Laravel (2022)
Are you French? Seems like the only place where PHP is still popular is France because of Symfony.

But for the rest I agree, coming from Rails and now working in Typescript: Rails is way faster for building stuff, but building scalable apps in a team that scale without a typed language is way more complicated

pouzy··on Companies that use PHP and pay well
Kind of a typical PHP developer post unfortunately, it's the only language where I see people say 'I've been here long enough to know better'

That's the thing though, tech changes way too fast to say that. As soon as I see somebody say that in a interview, I assume that they are not even up to date in the language they claim to use so well, because they are likely to use it like they did 5 years ago.

I guess the key to more money today is staying flexible. I'm sure you can find well paying PHP jobs, it just makes it harder to say it so bluntly.

Good luck with the chase !

pouzy··on Ask HN: One-person startups/SaaS that are profitable?
I run one too. International, customers in Europe, us, south America. It's been running for almost 8 years, so now it's practically 'finished' - basically does the job for the niche it's targeting.

But I'm tired of being solo, so I'm merging with other people that are more on the sales part. One of them also has a profitable company (not saaa - involves people transportation) and needs a tech to make everything smoother (insurances contacts etc)

We'll see how it goes because we come from VERY different perspectives and need to bend our habits to be able to work together

Having a profitable SaaS is awesome (I can work on it something like 2 days a month if I want to, just managing specific invoices) but you just get nuts working from home alone after a while. It was fun during COVID-19, can't say it is anymore

pouzy··on Show HN: Open sourcing Harmonic, my Android Hacker News client
Thanks for that ! I had a terrible HN app, and discovered Harmonic through this post. And it's so much better. <3
pouzy··on Ask HN: Developers who became engineering managers, how was the experience?
I'm editing the blog http://cto.pizza that relates challenges of CTOs, VPs, engineering directors... you might get some insights on what it is like on the blog
pouzy··on The CTO Journey at a Small Startup
Hello,

I'm having the same considerations and am writing about challenges CTOs of startups of different sizes face on a daily basis on http://cto.pizza

The concept is simple: we talk about your growth, team and tech challenges over a pizza. Let me know of any of you might be interested in grabbing one.

I'm based in Paris but we could figure something out over Skype or something if you have interesting stories to share!

pouzy··on Ask HN: Boss/Founder keeping my departure a secret. What to do?
Ask him the real reason why you still can't talk about it on the last day ? The whole "it will make the team worry" isn't working anymore. Kind of sounds like a dirty move, I'm afraid.
pouzy··on Lessons from Airbnb's Rejections
Couchsurfing is mostly relying on trust. I've couchsurfed quite a bit (stopped since Airbnb I must say) and every time, people were the sweetest. But that's a good enough situation for backpackers, Airbnb has nailed down the cheap hotel-level hospitality.
pouzy··on Lessons from Airbnb's Rejections
Take Cuba as an example and their casas particulares: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casa_particular They have their own Airbnb there, without internet.
pouzy··on All pull requests will be accepted. Let's see where it goes
What if it becomes highly a illegal or dangerous codebase?
pouzy··on Ask HN: What are some interesting metrics for a B2B startup?
Thanks a lot ! As for discarding the consumer startup metrics, of course not, but having worked in a high-growth consumer startup before with millions of users, I am a bit lost when I see number 3 or 4 orders of magnitude below what I am used to. Thanks !
pouzy··on StandupMail – Simple email-based productivity logging
Is there a way to tweak the frequency of the digest ? We're currently working on a weekly report basis with my team, and I'd definitely try the solution if we can keep it weekly
pouzy··on I’m tired. So I’m selling my game that just went viral
Everybody's advising not to sell it, but looking at the game: Yes, it might only be a spike. The game is long to get into, a lot of reading, etc. It's like starting a complicated board game without somebody to explain it to you: a lot of people will just drop it to play a game in which the rules are explainable in 20 seconds.

There's a buzz going on around it right now, but don't expect it to be Flappy Bird. So depending on what you want (you seem tired of that game), I don't think it's a bad idea to sell it while it's hot

pouzy··on Introducing free voice calls from Hangouts
Most of the people I contact are way less reactive on hangouts (if they ever look at it) than they can be through SMS. I've been a few times in the situation where I realized that I was contacting them through hangouts involuntarily, and that's why they weren't answering. I've never had a Windows phone or IOS, so I don't know how they do, I just hope that it's easier to use
pouzy··on Introducing free voice calls from Hangouts
Hangouts on everything is much worse that gchat was, mobile included, sadly
pouzy··on Introducing free voice calls from Hangouts
Well, this took a while. It's been the most frustrating experience having Hangouts since it rolled out, because of this exact issue: I based everything on GrooveIP at the time, having a small voice plan but unlimited data. Then Hangouts showed up and everything became messy (I still hate hangouts, putting SMS and web chat at the same place is very confusing for the average user)

I wrote this a bit more that a year ago about how all of Google's products are becoming too complicated: http://oneurl.me/google-my-mom-cant-use-your-new-products

This is all linked to the Google+ spirit: Trying to make things work when they clearly don't.

The GV/hangouts app hasn't been rolled out on my phone yet, but I'm looking forward to see what complications it creates :)

pouzy··on Pinboard 2014 Expenses
Looking at their VPS offers, digitalocean is about the same.
pouzy··on Ask HN: Have you emigrated from the USA?
Haha, there will be a lot more stories there, it almost gets boring. Being a European in the US, I'm actually interested in knowing where Americans in tech want to go.
pouzy··on Runnable – jsfiddle for everything
Why wouldn't you use a normal user and not root ? This seems overly dangerous
pouzy··on Show HN: Kiwichat – group chat of people who are within 1 mile
15 years too late, Caramail was doing the same in france since 1997 (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/CaraMail)

This is the type of thing where people will show up, see that their room is empty (if you're not just searching for "San francisco") and leave, unfortunately

pouzy··on New Soylent Website
It looks very, very disgusting.
pouzy··on Why our startup failed
Being french and living in the US, I have a question: Do you feel like the french system (hard to hire/fire, etc) helped in that failure ? And do you feel like if you had started outside of Europe, you could have raised 10x what you did and maybe found a what to become sustainable ? (even if you say that you don't need money)
pouzy··on Edward Snowden and Julian Assange top Bill at SXSW
Assange was fairly boring in the end (maybe due to the technical difficulties), I hope Snowden will be better.

I'm not sure it's worth going to the virtual keynotes if you are at SXSW, I would have prefered viewing the Assange one from outside in live streaming.

Neil Degrasse Tyson was magical though.

pouzy··on Large DDoS hitting CloudFlare
I've had to move my blog away from EC2 because Cloudflare was killing it (it was a very simple wordpress install). Other more custom sites on other servers are doing fine though.

They manage so much stuff that any downtime they have will make a lot of people unhappy. It already happened once (http://oneurl.me/cloudflare-broke-the-internet)

pouzy··on If you had to start over, what technologies would you learn in 2014?
Most studies are showing it. Mobile will make a big difference in the near future though, so the balance might change quite fast.
pouzy··on If you had to start over, what technologies would you learn in 2014?
Ho, and most definitely mobile languages. That will all put us out of our job if we can't move into that field.
pouzy··on If you had to start over, what technologies would you learn in 2014?
I like Python. It took me a while to get out of PHP, so I guess I'd drop PHP to jump directly in Python.

But most of all I'd learn how to fix a car. They are such a pain when they break.

pouzy··on Poll: As a founder, what is your salary?
0 I even created a non profit to make sure that I can reinject everything in the business itself, without having to pay a lot of taxes.
pouzy··on Ask HN: What's your new year resolution?
Learn spanish.
