postflopclarity··on Urban birds are more scared of women than men – but scientists don't know why
do they? if there's some insinuation here I'm not understanding it.
postflopclarity··on Anthropic takes $5B from Amazon and pledges $100B in cloud spending in return
but comparing your margin of charging to drive a mile to the price of gas makes a lot of sense? that is the only variable cost in the equation. training / scraping / people are all pretty much fixed costs.
postflopclarity··on Claude Opus 4.7
funny how they use mythos preview in these benchmarks like a carrot on a stick
postflopclarity··on The AI School Bus Camera Company Blanketing America in Tickets
> the program is heavily burdening residents who either can’t or don’t pay the fines.

maybe they should stop driving dangerously

postflopclarity··on Science confirms torpedo [baseball] bat works as well as regular bat
they compared equal _swing_ weight bats. so actually in their experiment the torpedo bat was heavier.
postflopclarity··on When legal sports betting surges, so do Americans' financial problems
I think you might be underestimating how much money can be spent at a ski resort.
postflopclarity··on OpenAI Acquires TBPN
the damage is already done.
postflopclarity··on U.S. stocks are set to deliver their worst quarter in nearly four years
more of a completely unforced self-inflicted error than some kind of naturally occurring "bust cycle"
postflopclarity··on New Washington state law bans noncompete agreements
I don't think this is quite true. in my industry & city, noncompetes are very common and commonly enforced.
postflopclarity··on Olympic Committee bars transgender athletes from women’s events
your imagination is wrong. obviously.
postflopclarity··on Mystery jump in oil trading ahead of Trump post draws scrutiny
> What is the evidence of US government being "toppled" with layers and layers and layers of diverse (financial, legal, military, political, social, you name it) protections in place?

I mean.

Do you read the news?

these protections are not working very well these days. the administration is getting away with _so much_ criminality in plain view.

postflopclarity··on An incoherent Rust
> the compiler has no sane answer once both impls are in the graph

but the user could provide an answer.

Julia allows something called "piracy" which is spiritually similar to the orphan rule. and while it is strongly discouraged, the compiler allows it. and when "ambiguities" arise (here called "coherence") it becomes a social problem, not technical, to resolve. and usually package authors are pretty willing to cooperate to resolve it!

postflopclarity··on American aviation is near collapse?
> but we have very comprehensive data and statistics concerning air travel

somehow I feel like conditions may have changed since that data was collected. just a hunch.

postflopclarity··on Austin’s surge of new housing construction drove down rents
just because rents fell doesn't mean developers couldn't recoup their investment. 2008 was completely different.
postflopclarity··on Austin’s surge of new housing construction drove down rents
how surprising, never would have seen that coming
postflopclarity··on Are LLMs not getting better?
> but mostly in skills and token use optimization.

I have heard rumors that token use optimization has been a recent focus to try to tidy up the financials of these companies before they IPO. take that with a grain of salt though

postflopclarity··on Are LLM merge rates not getting better?
> "Drastic increases in capability have happened the last 3-6 months" have been a constant refrain.

well, yeah. because that's been the experience for many people.

3 years ago, trying to use ChatGPT 3.5 for coding tasks was more of a gimmick than anything else, and was basically useless for helping me with my job.

today, agentic Opus 4.6 provides more value to me than probably 2 more human engineers on my team would

postflopclarity··on Zig – Type Resolution Redesign and Language Changes

postflopclarity··on Iran War Cost Tracker
sometimes there are more than two options between

"do nothing"

and the clusterfuck the current administration has embarked on.

postflopclarity··on Pentagon Adopts Incel-Speak
no. I'm not going to boost links to the incel pipeline. it's already easy enough to access.
postflopclarity··on Pentagon Adopts Incel-Speak
is this bad-faith naivete ?

obviously, in isolation, there is nothing hateful about wanting to improve your appearance. but if you spend any time at all on these forums in which "looksmaxxing" discussions tend to occur, the hatred towards women (and other groups) is profuse and apparent.

postflopclarity··on Pentagon Adopts Incel-Speak
"what people subconciously believe" != "lot of truth"

the State should not be boosting the rhetoric of what mostly amounts to a bunch of hateful losers blaming their problems on women.

postflopclarity··on Bus stop balancing is fast, cheap, and effective
I don't think you read or understood the article if this is your takeaway.
postflopclarity··on Show HN: A physically-based GPU ray tracer written in Julia
I'm even sympathetic to some of the concerns. I say that as someone deeply embedded in the Julia community. but seeing this same repost over and over for years honestly starts to get pretty frustrating.
postflopclarity··on Fix the iOS keyboard before the timer hits zero or I'm switching back to Android
it's so infuriating how bad I am at typing now.
postflopclarity··on Anthropic raises $30B in Series G funding at $380B post-money valuation
very different; not a relevant comparison
postflopclarity··on The US is flirting with its first-ever population decline
the cities mentioned account for nearly 10% of US GDP by themselves. That's not exactly what I would describe as a "jet set fart sniffing town." maybe you misread and thought the OP said Jackson or Sun Valley or something?
postflopclarity··on The US is flirting with its first-ever population decline
such annoying pedantry to point out that "akshually houses are cheap in southern missouri"

I mean, sure. but then there are 0 jobs and 0 community.

the housing shortage is a shortage of housing in the same places that there is industry and opportunity. the fact that there are ample plots of land upon which one could theoretically erect a tent is irrelevant

postflopclarity··on The US is flirting with its first-ever population decline
I did, sorry
postflopclarity··on The US is flirting with its first-ever population decline
maybe you're just undesirable
