post-it··on Strutt's Powered Wheelchair Is Not a Wheelchair (For Legal Reasons)
> Let's say you've assembled a team and designed an awesome powered wheelchair. One that works better than incumbent designs and is easy on the eyes.

Well, have they? The article lists some very cool features, but those are also points of failure. They review process for medical products is onerous and could definitely be improved, but it does serve an important purpose.

The chair seems to put the user in a higher and more upright position than most, for example, which could make it easier to fall out.

The scenario seems like the system working perfectly as designed: enthusiasts have the opportunity to buy it on the open market, and once it's proven and makes it through the review process, it'll be more widely available through insurance as well.

post-it··on Dots: Always-on agents
> It's better for opsec in every single way and helps if you were ever to be subpoena'd or raided, your work laptop would be the only in-scope device for search/seizure.

If police raid your house looking for electronics, they're going to take everything down to the Roku stick.

post-it··on NASA asked several former SR-71A staffers to help secret restart
There were a lot of things we couldn't do in an SR-71000...
post-it··on MicroLLM Lab – Try 7 tiny LLM's in the browser
We didn't have this kind of sloppy UI. Putting in an extra text field is work, so we mostly had blocks of text and misaligned fields and text in the wrong place.

AI has no trouble churning out code, so AI-generated sloppy UIs have text fields everywhere.

post-it··on MicroLLM Lab – Try 7 tiny LLM's in the browser
> The text is too small and it's way too dense with information in general.

The Claude special.

post-it··on GitHub has not removed malicious imitation software after 3 weeks
Bandwidth can be bought with money, of which Microsoft made an extra $133.7 billion this year.
post-it··on Dynamic Abliteration: Non-Destructive Refusal Suppression via Engram Steering
Yeah, Claude is perfectly happy to set up and improve a self hosted pirated media streaming service. I can't imagine that will last.
post-it··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
> because it contained a string ("reasoning") it didn't like.

How do you know? How would the stupider model know?

post-it··on How we made claude.ai 3x faster in two weeks
> When I had another model read the session (all of the "stupider" models handled it just fine) it explained that it had the word "reasoning" in it

Did it explain it did it hallucinate?

post-it··on GPT-6 Astra has gained the ability to drive a car
Man, EVs are very efficient. I was thinking from the perspective of my 120 HP Hyundai Venue, where it would be only an extra 10% of peak power.
post-it··on GPT-6 Astra has gained the ability to drive a car
Power usage isn't an issue. 10 kW is 13 HP. The size, price, and fragility of the components is the issue.
post-it··on Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on [fixed]
Not necessarily. They probably have an integrated service that handles some telemetry and also feature flags, like Braze. They toggled the whole thing off based on telemetry settings. It's a bug I've made before too.
post-it··on Microsoft killed FoxPro in 2007. Anyway, here's FoxPro revived
Access is so good. I can't believe there's no universal equivalent for Linux and Mac. There are dozens of times when I've used a spreadsheet when a file-based database would have been better.
post-it··on Claude Opus 5.5
Is the meaning clear? Nobody would use "pacing" in this way. I only know what it means because I've seen previous press releases; if someone told me they wanted to pace the frontier I would have no idea what they mean.

I'm on the fence about calling out AI-isms but I think it's definitely worthwhile to call out ones that actually don't make sense.

post-it··on I said no and Apple said yes
Well the example given in the article, for example, will not be noticed by just about anyone, and most of those that do notice don't care. Myself included - I already use iCloud, some extra analytics aren't going to kill me. Maybe one day we'll switch away, but I'm doing a lot less tech support now that the whole household is on Apple.
post-it··on AI and the Destruction of the Creative Commons
People in real life are going up to you and telling you you shouldn't bother learning things and just use AI instead?
post-it··on If AI coding is lowering your code quality, you're not managing quality right
What's a crash going to do? The internet didn't disappear after the dot com bubble popped.
post-it··on AI and the Destruction of the Creative Commons
> And ideology of pointlessness where any time you do or learn anything, you get told that why bother you should have used AI.

Who cares? Anyone can tell you anything online.

post-it··on AI and the Destruction of the Creative Commons
Melodramatic.

> I now have every incentive to not share my work, while also being wary of anything I find online that has been shared. If it hasn’t been polluted by slop code, it might have been poisoned with a malicious library, send data off to third parties, or itself be comprised of someone else’s stolen work, implicating me in the crime.

All of this was a concern before.

> If I make my code available, AI can be used to more easily discover vulnerabilities to abuse my coding errors, while if I keep my code closed it is far more difficult to find those same mistakes.

This has always been a tradeoff.

> If I publish my code on a public service like GitHub, I am likely to be inundated with pull requests generated by AI bots and inexperienced users, flooding me with mostly useless slop and taking all of my spare time away just triaging it.

Then disable PRs?

This guy has four public repos on GitHub, two of which are forks. I get the impression he does more philosophizing about writing code than actually writing code.

post-it··on Giving up on smart rings
I like the data collection features of smart watches.
post-it··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
They'll ship it out of Churchill. The only special interest groups are Indigenous and they rarely successfully hold up projects that are actually important.
post-it··on The Google Play app review process now regularly takes longer than a week
How would a reviewer catch that?
post-it··on Giving up on smart rings
I find it's comparable to the data from my Apple Watch.
post-it··on Giving up on smart rings
I like to look down at my wrist and see the time down to the second, and my Apple Watch S7 can't deliver on that. Either the screen doesn't light up, or it lights up after a second or so, or it lights up but it's showing me the Smart Stack or an old notification instead of the watch face. And the screen fades quickly and hides the second hand (my girlfriend's S10 shows the second hand when the screen is dimmed, so they've at least fixed that in newer models).

It also needs to be charged daily which is inconvenient, whereas a normal watch lasts for years, and the smart ring lasts several days.

The smart phone integration features don't really work well either. It'll buzz with a notification, I'll look down and there's nothing. 2-3 seconds later the notification appears, but it'll only say who it's from, not the contents, despite my privacy settings being set correctly. I tap it, and a second later the message appears. I may as well have pulled out my phone instead.

By normal, these are the criteria I've decided I want in a watch, after trying out a handful from aliexpress:

- Quartz mechanism - day-date - Arabic numerals - light face - some sort of illumination

post-it··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
Where there's a will, there's a way. There hasn't been a will until now.
post-it··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
Canada is definitionally a federation.
post-it··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
I don't think they're talking about WWII.
post-it··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
I hope it means we'll allow EU cars on our roads.
