polysaturate··on Dear websites, stop asking for ransom sign-ups
This...

My assumption was always that there are two separate systems at play, and once your email is entered, it gets put into some sort of cart rescue campaign..which sends...promotional emails.

polysaturate··on Zain Nadella, Satya Nadella's son, dies at 26
Honest question...what specifically about Cerebral palsy would cause death at an early age (27 is early to die in modern times, IMHO)?
polysaturate··on Tech sector job interviews assess anxiety, not software skills: study
So a normal scenario would be `hourly_rate + (monthly_cobra_cost / 160)?`
polysaturate··on AWS Copilot
That’d be nice. It was a good concept but I really didn’t like how it handled some of the application commands with yaml files.
polysaturate··on Hey.com's Slim Gemfile from DHH
There's some interesting choices in there such as MySQL and Resque (over Sidekiq).
polysaturate··on How we launched our MVP in 3 weeks
True, but this is something that can and will change after beta?
polysaturate··on How we launched our MVP in 3 weeks
This comment is spot on...every product is different, ever person/team is different and every market is different.
polysaturate··on Show HN: Senior Remote Jobs via Telegram
Is there no way to browse this information in the browser?

Not saying I am anti-Telegram, but I have never used it, nor know how it works.

polysaturate··on Stripe's API was down
Never said it was easy, but if it's bad enough to make a post about how "painful" it is and "losing revenue" it should be a consideration? Yeah?
polysaturate··on Stripe's API was down
> Losing a ton of revenue and it is completely out of my hands.

That may be a bit exaggerated. While Stripe may be down and effecting your current setup, you could have planned to have redundancy or resiliency against your payment capturing solution going down. No technology never breaks.

polysaturate··on Pricing Experiments You Can Learn From (2011)
I feel like this is the same general pricing experiments/info we have seen synthesized for the past few years in giant articles. I was hoping there were some new juicy SaaS pricing experiences to be shared.

Not that the information in this article is bad if you haven't seen it before or haven't fiddled with pricing in a while

polysaturate··on Modern Front-end in Rails
Turbolinks is plenty fast enough and simple enough for most Rails projects. Maybe sure you're relying on the correct Turbolink events and there's pretty much not anything else you need to change to have Rails automatically load server rendered markup through PJAX.
polysaturate··on Ask HN: Do you have a side project you want to sell?
This comes up at a decent frequency lately. There was a Show HN lately where there was a listing website:

http://borderline.biz

EDIT: Fixed the URL

polysaturate··on Hulu’s Live TV service to cost $39.99/month with ads, sources say
On PS Vue it depends on the method to watch the show. If it's a "favorited show" in the 28(I think) day DVR, you can fast forward at any point. If you watch "catch up"(shows that PS Vue has decided to store in the cloud but not one of your 'favorites) or "on demand" shows, most time FF will be turned off or limited.
polysaturate··on Jeff Bezos’ Annual Letter
An actual serious answer:

It's a line chart that shows story points starting at the top left in the beginning of the sprint. Which shows all points to be done, trending towards 0 points with 0 days left in the sprint, in the lower right.

Linear means that the same points are done each day to allow the line to be perfectly linear between the top left and bottom right.

polysaturate··on Announcing Free and Automated SSL Certs
For anyone on the fence about using Heroku, this is a great value to those who know how to deal with certs but wouldn't mind them automated and free for the rest of the premium at Heroku.
polysaturate··on How I Made $70k Self-Publishing a Book about Ruby on Rails
I think for those writing a technical book, myself included, just don't know if it's worth going self-publish with a minimal cut from payment providers and such. Or getting on board with PragProg who would help with marketing, editing, etc and still get a decent royalty.

I understand there are no clear-cut rules to go by, but even a generic "If you don't have 10k email list, 50% of PragProgs sales will most likely be higher" might helper writers understand when to get help.

polysaturate··on How I Made $70k Self-Publishing a Book about Ruby on Rails
I can attest to this strategy working, albeit on a much smaller scale with my presale right now. Smaller price point, assuming much less traffic on the medium posts.

Hell, I have more revenue in presales in a little over 6 weeks than 18 months of trying to build SaaS apps.

polysaturate··on Ask HN: What SaaS customer service tools does your startup use?
Yes, I can't approve of HelpScout enough, used them on the very generous fee tier. Was easy to use and the web app is pretty damn snappy.
polysaturate··on Ask HN: Am I a software developer?
What type of software/applications have you been writing professionally?

How does this compare to the software/applications in the code tests?

polysaturate··on ConvertKit: How Nathan Barry Bootstrapped an Email Marketing Business
I found the GumRoad Case Study on the meteor book:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/gumroad/blog/DiscoverMeteorCaseStud...

polysaturate··on ConvertKit: How Nathan Barry Bootstrapped an Email Marketing Business
No offense taken. I'm just trying to have a healthy optimism about writing, marketing and selling a book. 500k and 120k in sales seems like outliers. Would just be great to hear more about those experiences though.
polysaturate··on ConvertKit: How Nathan Barry Bootstrapped an Email Marketing Business
Everything is a skill. Writing is a skill. Marketing is a skill. Some people will pay to read a book about the skill. Said writers would like to make money from writing said books.

I would think it would be fairly known if someone's books are snake oil. Just my opinion, though. Scumbag seems like a harsh judgement.

polysaturate··on ConvertKit: How Nathan Barry Bootstrapped an Email Marketing Business
True, but that seemed like a really trending market. Anyway, do you know if there are any articles, etc about their experiences?
polysaturate··on ConvertKit: How Nathan Barry Bootstrapped an Email Marketing Business
Second time in a week I've seen you post about this(not a dig). Not quite sure there is the same sort of market for 120k in eBook sales for programming books, but your success definitely helps me hold hope my pre-sale continues to gain traction.
polysaturate··on ConvertKit: How Nathan Barry Bootstrapped an Email Marketing Business
So, wait, anyone who writes an eBook and would like to sell it is a scumbag? Unless there is a clear association with a real publisher or university? Is this opinion specific to marketing or do you hold the same disdain to programming books as well?
polysaturate··on How to build the next Trello and sell it for $425M or more
This article was well written and surprisingly did give a plausible reason why Trello grew and was later acquired.
polysaturate··on LinkedIn got a new look(2017)
I just see the mobile view
polysaturate··on Ask HN: How do you go about picking a new language to learn?
Exactly why I wanted to learn some Go myself. Been doing years of Ruby development and I really wanted to learn something that shined in concurrency.
polysaturate··on Show HN: Ever wonder when the last time a particular date fell on a certain day?
I was thinking about this one day for too long and decided to turn it into a quick tool.
