polymorph1sm··on Muse Glimmer: 30B-parameter model optimized for always-on local agent workflows
Some interesting findings from the chat template designs:

1. The template name is Onyx ATEM as found in the tool call exception message

2. It appears to be following a harmony-style chat template. But the tool use seems to be a xml like :<atem:function_calls> / <atem:invoke> / <atem:parameter>

3. atem: a internal joke of meta in reverse?

polymorph1sm··on Ask HN: Where do you live? What's good or bad about it?
One thing I hate about Hsinchu was its windy weather. I do agree Taipei are much better and Kaoshiung is certainly in my second place compared to Hsinchu.
polymorph1sm··on Google to invest up to $2B in Anthropic
It’s not as good as GPT-4, the only feature I used often was their PDF QA. The rest ChatGPT plus ( GPT-4 ) still miles ahead
polymorph1sm··on Why does iPhone 13 screen replacement disable Face ID
This. I recently bought an "second hand" iPhone XS advertised as those came from shop display phones. It was in good condition: no burn ins, battery at 80% health. When the screen broke after dropping it, I went to some shop for repair just to found out its remix of parts from other iPhone ( apparently the motherboard came from South Korea ). This made the device very fragile as some of the screws maybe missing and screen are not properly mounted. The iPhone XS I bought had one missing screw and no display adhesive.
polymorph1sm··on The Cerebras CS-2 wafer-scale engine (850k cores, 40 GB SRAM)
Unless they are able to introduce smaller module like “GPU” version, it will only be a nice demo product of what we can do with state of the art semiconductor manufacturing.
polymorph1sm··on Advancing NLP with Efficient Projection-Based Model Architectures
I recently found this paper[1] claiming near GPT-3 performance with only a fraction of parameters. They seems to simply reformulate the input sequence to change classification to a sequence generation task.

polymorph1sm··on Nvidia's Arm deal sparks quick backlash in chip industry
If javascript frameworks is patented then yes, you can. For reference ARM big little scheduler is patented[1], you need to license from ARM if you use any of their big little design. RISC-V under BSD license might change this.

polymorph1sm··on Nikola Denies 'Fraud' Allegations, Threatens Legal Action Against Short-Sellers
At least they are already delisted from nasdaq[1] and their stock did plummet since muddy waters reports.

polymorph1sm··on Garmin services and production go down after ransomware attack
I spoke with one the engineers at their hiring event last year, I can confirm they are still a very engineering led company.
polymorph1sm··on Show HN: Open-source online speech recognition
Online decoding in Kaldi uses GMM (or NN+GMM hybrid) where this repo focus in end to end approach using deep LSTM (similar to Google Pixel's offline speech to text [1]).

polymorph1sm··on Ask HN: If you could work remote where would you live?
I am studying master in Taiwan. Chill, cafe, convenience stores are certainly the best three things I loved about. Btw transportation is only top notched in Taipei, so if you are free you should take some time to get a scooter license.
polymorph1sm··on Show HN: A Firefox add-on to strip Google search results of 'blacklisted' URLs
Thank you! Just curious, is there any reason why "Wiper blacklisted URL: <URL>" need to be shown instead of a cleaner removal?
polymorph1sm··on Show HN: Python package to collect normalized news from almost any website
Seems like a repost of previous Show HN [1].

polymorph1sm··on Rebuilding our tech stack for the new facebook.com
I opt in when Facebook prompted me to test out the new UI in Chrome browser, immediately I regretted and frustrated to find the button to revert back to the old one.

But then I found out my "old" Safari browser wasn't supported in their new fancy UI. Now I only check my Facebook once per day in Safari and never sign in again from Chrome.

polymorph1sm··on Opt out of Clearview.ai
"Your request cannot be accepted because that link is still public." got this message when trying to deindex my image.

Sadly for general public (the rest of the world), you can only "opt out" if your image source was removed.

polymorph1sm··on Yatri: First electric motorcycle to be made in Nepal
One thing I notice with electric motorcycle is that riding experience is much better than gasoline version ( way less vibration and better throttle control ). In Taiwan there's a local company call Gogoro selling electric scooter (Scooter/motorcycle is a very common here). Another interesting feature is that it doesn't rely on charging station rather you swap the empty battery for charged ones from any battery exchange stations ( of course you had to pay for it).
polymorph1sm··on Firefox 71
I switch to Firefox few months ago on macOS and Linux. Other than issues on Youtube video playback ( sometimes the frame just freeze when I switch between different workspace in macOS )and a few minor bugs across google's service the overall experience is mostly on par with Chrome.
