Seriously. This summer has been depressing to watch HN go down the pan.
Please HN: Stop getting outraged by stuff that doesn't really matter. You're turning into Reddit, and just like them, you will have forgotten all about this by next week, and be on to the next topic you need to be outraged about. It's depressing. Angelgate? No one cares any more. No one should have cared in the first place.
No consumer in their right mind would use IE on a mobile :/
FWIW my webapp is 20% Chrome, 55% Firefox, 19% IE (All mainly desktop users). So dropping support for IE isn't that insane.
The fact that pretty much all js frameworks periodically announce speedups of 50%+ should ring alarm bells.
Create value, make users want to stick around, iterate, grow.
FWIW browser differences are always vastly overplayed by 'framework' developers.
> "I write in a gender independent style (unlike your comment!)."
That seems fairly silly considering 95%+ of founders are men. Women founders are an edge case. Whether that's how things should be or not is a question for another day IMHO (Ask women why they don't want to be founders), but acknowledging the fact that 95% of founders are men, isn't being sexist.
I think his point is completely valid - if you have a supportive spouse, you can be 50% involved in baby, or you can be 1% involved in baby. If it's 1% then it won't really impact your success in a startup (Although you'll most likely live to regret it).
everything carries a risk. Do what seems natural and right for you.
When MS announced support for facebook on the xBox, I thought "hmm why not just give users a browser". Then they announced twitter integration... "Umm how about just stuff a browser on there".
It's farcical. But OTOH, it fits right with MS's plan - they detest the www. It's open. It's free. It's not a walled garden they can monetize.
Last time I heard the web division at MS still makes a huge loss. Which leads me to believe they're not in it to make money. They're in it to mess it up, stifle progress, and keep people buying their installable software. They did an absolutely fantastic job of that for 5 years or so.
Lets see where Twitter is in 2 years.
MS has never understood or indeed wanted the www to happen.
They were able to hold back www development for 5 years+ with their IE6 shenanigans, but the cats out of the bag now.
The Blu-Ray format sums up what is wrong with Sony. It's a dead end format which probably won't even recoup the money it took to develop.
If it looks like it's not going to work, you just speed up again...
I want as little key travel as possible. Typing on a desktop keyboard is slow and tiring.
1. Drive infront
2. Match the speed
3. Slowly reduce speed so that the car behind knocks
into your back bumper at a relative speed of like
1 mph. Maybe you feel a tiny bump.
4. Apply brakes
Yes it's impressive, but I'd be willing to bet it's not that dangerous at all. The very very worst case scenario is that you don't match the speed very well and get rear ended, which is pretty much the best type of crash you can have.We grew up in a time where you could buy a computer and you pretty much had to learn how to program it. Now, you can get away without needing to learn.
