Thank you for enriching us and the web <3 !
pmkary··on Quantifying Colour
There is a Knuth/TeX like elegance in the diagrams that you don't see on the web. More than the content that is amazing; and the visualizations that clearly took a very long time to make; it is a fabulous piece of art. Really really nice.
pmkary··on SQLite as a Document Database (2020)
I remember this getting to the top of HN for at least two more times.
pmkary··on Inception-style curved map for turn-by-turn directions
This is pure Bret-Victorian magic. Really the greatest single notational/visualization I have seen in a long long time. Wow. I'm so in love.
pmkary··on Worst-case glacial lake flood scenarios in a transboundary Himalayan basin 2022
I'm from Iran and sadly it is the same here as well. Our country is in a bad shape given the political/economic situation and there are so many warnings that are common knowledge, but given the economy of fixing them, nothing really happens to prevent them. We had a mall that was decades too old and very unstable. The fire department had issued many safety warnings and had tried to close the place for safety; it did not happen and the building went on fire and crashed to the ground, killing many civilians and firefighters. Its a shame things like this happen; made me incredibly sad to see this report. Hope nothing like this ever happens to anyone.

I for one love this website. Reminds me of ~2010ish designs. I miss those days. And who cares how much they spent on the typeface, was their money; I'm glad to have a new beautiful typeface for free.
pmkary··on How to Build a McKinsey-Style PowerPoint with AI: 8 Rules for Consulting Slides
It is so beautiful that the article itself is all AI.
pmkary··on MS Paint and Photos inivisibly watermark even locally generated output with GUID
With every new thing Microsoft goes trying so hard to come out as the good person, but they just cannot help themselves but to inject their evil. It had to be changed with Nadla coming, but their enshitification is just keeps getting worse and worse. What on Earth is this.
pmkary··on Xiaomi: New CPU matches Apple cores single threaded, much faster multithreaded
Sad thing is that it'll still be running the damn Android and so JVM not C or Swift on the machine.
pmkary··on typ.ing
The best ad I have ever seen!
pmkary··on Kobo can run apps now
I'm like yours, But there are things that makes me angry. I cannot for example read Farsi books. I cannot put a new e-pub into my kindle and I have to send it over the web; there are many things like these. And so I just want to have a nicer reader that I myself control.
pmkary··on Waterfox 6.7.0 – Supernova
The tab sidebar and borders are Arc signature; and Arc has a New Yorkish style blend into it that these browsers don't understand fully. I'm not sure how I can explain it good enough; but it's just that. I don't get the island designs and stuff.
pmkary··on Waterfox 6.7.0 – Supernova
Obviously as it is the rule now; everyone is copying Arc. But why not doing it with style? I would very much like to see a browser that beautiful and more functional. This is not meeting that standards.
pmkary··on Kobo can run apps now
As a Kindle owner; I'm very jealous.
pmkary··on Mojo is now open source
What a beautiful standard library btw. Much to learn and take from.
pmkary··on Go 1.27
I'm always amazed on how the Go team has bo faith in syntax highlighting.
pmkary··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
The world will never be free. There will never be a way for a person to install something on iOS without Apple throwing its rocks. 5% fee basic means alternative app stores are disguised app store. Just as chrome is safari in disguise...
pmkary··on Jolt: Clojure compiler implemented with Chez Scheme
I think not, but this was a really interesting thing, I'm so glad you introduced me to it, thank you!
pmkary··on OpenAI disbanded the team that assessed catastrophic model risks
Brought to you by the for-profit-non-profit established to build proprietary open source models by the philanthropist CEO who is building bunkers.
pmkary··on scScript for Linux
Honestly I didn't understand anything from the page, why C that is bytecode compiled, don't we suffer making C just to have the speed? Examples? What showing the bytecode means?
pmkary··on Racket v9.3
My father is within the scientific community and so, sadly I'm fully aware of this trait of theirs. But there is just something about people like this that I want to have the luxury of avoiding. At least in this situations. There are languages famous for their nice communities (say Rust and Ruby) why choose racket when they exist?
pmkary··on Firefox for iOS now has a native adblocker
Ads are bad! Blocking ads on our own homepage? How do you expect us to keep the lights on?
pmkary··on Oracle – a photorealistic browser for every Magic card ever printed
The heading logo is the best thing I have seen in a long time.
pmkary··on Racket v9.3
I have heard so many bas thing about Racket, all the bullying of the core team and being really bad people in general. Each time I like to give it a shot I remember this and just walk away.
pmkary··on Jolt: Clojure compiler implemented with Chez Scheme
How many years have it been there? My memory reminds me of Jolt but I very hardly remember what was it, all I remember is that it was a LISP.
pmkary··on Squeak 6.1
Use the Glamorous Toolkit.
pmkary··on Everything you do is being recorded
Shocker.
pmkary··on Microsoft Word for Windows 1.1a, Native X64 Port
Cool!
pmkary··on Oracle bans AI-generated code from OpenJDK
I know. What I meant by owning was about the creator aspect of it, and I just cannot accept Disney as the creator.

Back when I was a kid, there were two toy stores near my grandma's house and they had such a competition. And people were always buying and there was sort of a hype between the two, you could either believe in this or that. And then once my mom asked one of them about something and they told us both stores were owned by one person...

And now you can think you are with or against the corporate Java and in the end you are under Oracle no matter what.
