Imagine if the answer to the Fermi paradox ends up being not "they destroyed themselves through war" but "they destroyed themselves trying to find meaning in money and fake thinking machines".
That claim was made in response to a different claim above, to which "orcas have not been clearly shown to attack humans outside captivity" is a perfectly cromulent response. Pedantry like this really is annoying. This isn't high school debate.
The biggest function I'm missing is the keystone transformation, but magic eraser is now a cloud-only function that is much worse, they have rearranged the controls so in a way that separated some of the color corrections, and the resize edit handles for the functions that are still available are now rounded in a way that makes it much less clear what you are doing.
This is definitely not unique to software engineering. Just out of grad school, 15 years ago, I applied for a position with a local electrical engineering company for an open position. I was passed over and later the person I got a recommendation from let me know, out of band, that they had hired the person because he was fresh out of undergrad with an (unrelated) internship instead of research experience (that I would have been the second out of 3 candidates), but they had fired him within 6 months. They opened the position again and after interviewing again they told me they had decided not to hire anyone. Again, out of band, my contact told me he and his supervisor thought I should go work at one of their subcontractors to get experience, but they didn't send any recommendation and the subcontractors didn't respond to inquiry. I wasn't desperate enough to keep playing that game, and it really soured my view of a local company with an external reputation for engineering excellence, meritorious hiring, mentorship, and career building.
(If you install the RECAP extension in your browser you can cache downloaded PACER docs and they will get linked from Courtlistener. Lay users can sign up for a PACER account and if you use less than $30 of document access charge per quarter it will be waived)
I encountered this when setting up a Time Machine volume for my wife. In samba shares you can set that value in smb.conf by adding
fruit:model=ModelX,Y
MacOS will accept plenty of device names that perhaps don't make sense for file servers (I have mine set to Watch6,18), but it makes sense realizing that Bonjour is used for a lot more than just network volumes.
It's unfounded conspiracy to bang on about how "they are clearly hiding something".
Read the report. Power systems are complicated and not as easy as just "build another nuclear plant". It was (by regulation) conventional units that were required to provide voltage support, and it was in part their failure to operate according to their requirements that lead to the voltage excursions that caused the system collapse. The renewable systems that were capable of providing voltage stability were not allowed to do so.
If you read the report there was a significant amount of solar being produced at low prices and being pumped for storage. Further, the pumped hydro is the first load to be disconnected to balance demand on their system.
No? The meme relies on Jesus having lived and spoken in a way that a large group claiming to be his followers today would deride as "Socialism", whether or not it resembles your own, Karl Marx's, or Maduro's "Socialism", and in fact regardless of whether the meme-sayer thinks Socialism by some definition is good. It's a statement about how the loudest followers of Jesus or Christianity preach and act at odds with the meme-er's understanding of the gospel (specifically the 4 books of the Bible that tell the story of Jesus), and for it to work you don't even have to assume that Jesus was good.
The person you are responding to is making a point that many Christians have made in the past and present. Hell, the entire story of Jesus in the Bible is one of conflict with existing religious and government institutions and authorities, culminating in his death at the hands of those same characters.
Huh. I suppose that bus contract probably does make up a sizeable amount of their business. I last saw them at a trade show where they had their class 5 and 6 cab over truck chasses. There was a huge push for EV package delivery, for which that size was ideal. Their offerings looked pretty polished compared to the competition. I would think the CARB rules (and those in the other states that follow CARB) would stir a bit more demand for Lion's product offerings, but I can see what Quebec would be hesitant about such a company operating internationally in the r current political environment.
Huh. Maybe it's because I haven't installed Office since the 2010 version, I assumed OSA was still a thing. My work computer has O365 managed by IT and I could swear I've seen resident daemons (besides, say, Teams) running in the background.
I'm part of a listserve for power systems engineers (more from academia than from industry) and the consensus seems to be that a couple of trips in short succession caused wild swings in powerflows, resulting in a cascading failure - this is a pretty boring, if consequential, N-2 event, very similar to the 2005 Northeast Blackout in the US.
It's a term for anyone from a centrist liberal to a Greenpeace activist, with the implication that having left-of-median politics and understanding race and demography as anything other than biological essentialism makes you an utter loon. It is really only used by people who would describe themselves as "anti-woke".
The person he's referencing, specifically, got really pilled by evangelical Christianity and believes that anyone advocating for liberal causes has created a religion out of nebulous cultural values, unmoored from god. She blames the "cult of SJW" for the kind of character assassination she claims to have done, that it was the force of rootless bolshevism that was responsible for her supposedly destroying lives and careers by making up(?) relationships and cultural crimes on whole webs of Wikipedia articles.
The range figure is determined by a test regulated by the EPA and actually does account for a variety of driving conditions, specifically including highway driving. The graphic you linked to actually shows that the advertised range is very close to the range at all highway speeds.
