pixelcloud··on OS X is now macOS and gets support for Siri, auto unlock
I read that as. We are going to make sure spinning disk performance REALLY sucks this time.
pixelcloud··on Canada to introduce legislation to legalize recreational cannabis
Those two articles don't seem to contradict each other. They are both using legalization and decriminalization in the same way (i'm pretty sure).

The globalnews article talks a bit about how the Liberals tried decriminalizing it in the past and failed. And Justin Trudeau saying why they won't decriminalize before they legalize it. But the focus is on the legalization/regulation of it next year. It is not using those two interchangeably.

pixelcloud··on Beartooth
It even mentions that at the end of the video.

They were looking 5 miles away around a glacier!

pixelcloud··on iTerm2 Version 3 Now in Beta
With the default settings in iTerm, you might not fully fill the screen with shortcuts (half screen would be missing a little bit of the window on the bottom). By default iTerm uses row height to determine the window height.

Advanced Settings > Smooth Resizing - will fix this.

Yes, they have had a visor feature for a long time actually. I'm not on my mac right now and i'm not 100% sure if this link is accurate anymore. But it's under the keyboard shortcuts or profile settings. It is not enabled by default, and you can create a new hotkey profile with more transparency or whatever,

pixelcloud··on We Need a Better PC
I laughed when he was talking about the System76 laptop and being "modular" as a bonus. Then complaining about the empty space for the HDD.

Also, didn't compare the Surface Book (only talked about why he didn't use the Surface Pro..). I find that particularly funny

pixelcloud··on Apple ordered to bypass auto-erase on San Bernadino shooter's iPhone
You could rewrite the bootloader and recovery firmware to really do anything. Resize some partitions and dual boot into a shell with some drivers for keyboard and wireless.

Basically jailbreak..

pixelcloud··on Apple fans are coming to hate Apple software
The problem is that hangouts is still chrome.app. So the cmd+tab switcher groups it with chrome..

I've been using hyperswitch as my cmd+tab replacement for a while, and it is much closer to the windows implementation. I find it better..

pixelcloud··on Netflix to block proxy access to content not available locally
Are you kidding?
pixelcloud··on Ford and Google Move Forward Together Towards Consumer Self-Driving Cars
A year away in California and other states with good weather.

I have a suspicion we will see some amazing demos of self driving cars in the snow and rain, once they are good at it. It's brought up every time we talk about being these cars to consumers, if Google or whoever have truly mastered these situations I think they would like people to know.

pixelcloud··on US to ban soaps and other products containing microbeads
I actually could not stand fluorscent lights for many years (I would get massive headaches). I recently moved into a new place, and after I light burnt out I was surprised to see a CFL. No issues with headaches and a nice warm white.
pixelcloud··on US to ban soaps and other products containing microbeads
But flying and transportation is mostly required for a functional society. We can easily live without micro-beads, so it's a bit easier to outright ban them.

Or you sell the right to abuse the land or waterways. Then turn around and when all the clean water is gone, purify it and sell it!
pixelcloud··on Tesla Model S Autopilot Features
Maybe the feature is not really a beta, but Tesla is trying to get the public and regulators to accept the idea of a beta-feature-OTA-update to a car.
pixelcloud··on Tesla’s $140,000 Model X SUV Does 0-60 in 3.2 Seconds
I wonder how the weight to range ratio scales..
pixelcloud··on YC Open Office Hours for Black and Hispanic Founders
I'm just pointing out a perspective :)

I cannot imagine that YCombinator did not offer equal opportunity's for all applicants. But they have been slammed with some negative press over the past 2 years (and PG specifically), regarding diversity and women founders.

It is not all that surprising. They explicitly said last year they were going to do something to improve diversity.

pixelcloud··on YC Open Office Hours for Black and Hispanic Founders
It's basically designed to the ycombinator staff can not be subconsciously racist towards founders.

If a group applied with a great idea in the "normal" pool of applicants I suspect they would fair perfectly find against the 6500+ applications.

Obviously, YCombinator is worried about their image and cannot figure out how to "close the gap" without this.

pixelcloud··on Amazon Dash Button
If Amazon is successful with drone deliveries, it might end up being "press the button and X magically appears"
pixelcloud··on The new MacBook
Funny thing about 1), when I switched to OSX i hated that it did not put folders on top. I actually have something installed to allow finder to do that, because I absolutely hate the way finder does the sort.
pixelcloud··on How Uber and Lyft have exploited long waits, slow travel and poor service
London is unique. They have to pass "The Knowledge" which gives them a great understanding of the cities layout and routes.

pixelcloud··on The Fire phone debacle
No one has cracked the bootloader. So no custom roms
pixelcloud··on Star Trek: The Next Generation Was the Last Sci-Fi Show Hopeful About the Future
The Diamond Age also predicted Bitcoins to a certain extent. Its a great book.
pixelcloud··on Bitcoin Exchanges Under ‘Massive and Concerted Attack’
Information gathering. Prelude to potential attacks against the exchanges that could result in actual losses.

Just my thoughts

pixelcloud··on Bitcoin Exchanges Under ‘Massive and Concerted Attack’
Their backend software is probably able to deal with it, but not a massive DDOS brute force attack to try to find holes in the exchanges. This is an information gather exercise by some organized hackers.
pixelcloud··on Are passwords stored in memory safe?
I would say no.

pixelcloud··on Adobe wants Ninite to stop rolling out crapware-free Flash
I really don't see the difference between doing this and using something like SCCM to handle updates.

You are simply deploying the MSI and/or applying MSTs to the file. Configurations can be done after the package install...

If ninite cant do it, i dont see why MS/Citrix/Wyze would be able to.

pixelcloud··on Excel as a database
You can add many different data sources (any ODBC driver), access, sharepoint sites, etc. Its a pretty useful tool for people who are not programmers and rely on PivotTables and such.

Its surprising how effective excel can be for non-programmers.

pixelcloud··on The PyCon Incident
pyCon clearly set their expectations for their guests during this event. I think if the "community" has such a large issue with it, they can stop attending conferences that don't adhere to their social expectations. (pyCon would not get any smaller though)
pixelcloud··on Automatic: Your Smart Driving Assistant
Please ship this to Canada. I went to preorder and I cannot.
pixelcloud··on Canon develops 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor for video capture
Any f-stop below 1.0 is pretty incredible. Kubrick filmed that scnee with JUST candle light.
