phyzix5761··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
Karma? Do you believe anyone who has wealth only got that way through immoral actions?
phyzix5761··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
Generational wealth usually disappears within 3 generations so real life skills are necessary if the upper class wants to remain there.
phyzix5761··on Tutoring company tells parents to save their money and 'use AI instead'
If parents are stepping in and constantly saving their kids they are not giving them a leg up. They are effectively handicapping them.

phyzix5761··on Uber arbitration award over Emily Normandin-Parker’s death
You all realize that when AI takes everyone's jobs the only way people will survive is by pledging allegiance to AI companies so they feed and house them right? Its not going to lead to some utopia where people are free to paint and write novels all day. People will basically become slaves to these companies.

I would think twice about pushing for driverless cars and replacing people with agentic workflows.

phyzix5761··on Astra for Law
Divorce is extremely cheap if you both agree on everything. Its literally one of the options on the divorce filing. You just pay the court fees. The problem is both parties rarely agree on everything and that's when it gets expensive.
phyzix5761··on Astra for Law
The biggest problem with this is billable hours. Faster work means less billable hours for attorneys.
phyzix5761··on Artificial intelligence now beats some of the best human forecasters
Stock analysts have a success rate of 47% or lower for directional predictions. That's worse than a coin flip. All AI has to do is product fair 50/50 results and it can beat analysts. But you can do it too for the price of a quarter.
phyzix5761··on A wandering black hole caught feeding on the run
Based on the downvotes my comment is getting it seems there's a lot of scientifically illiterate people on this site. So, I'll expand on what I said.

We cannot directly measure the one-way speed of light because doing so requires synchronizing two distant clocks without already knowing how fast light travels.

When scientists state that light travels at 299,792,458 meters per second, they are referring to the two-way speed of light (a round trip from a source to a mirror and back).

To find the speed in one direction, you need a clock at the start and a clock at the finish line. To sync those two clocks, you must send a signal between them but, any signal you use to sync the clocks travels at the speed of light, which creates a circular problem.

phyzix5761··on A wandering black hole caught feeding on the run
Actually we don't know the speed of light in one direction[0]. So we could actually be seeing things as they are in this moment or at any other moment in time for all we know.

phyzix5761··on I fixed a tractor using John Deere's self-repair service. Farmers aren't sold
Heavy regulations are the reason why we have the John Deere semi monopoly. The regulatory entry cost is in the millions for any new player to enter the market so no one wants to compete and provide better service.

phyzix5761··on The two Christian saints who are the Buddha
"It can include assimilation of several originally discrete traditions, especially in theology and mythology, thus asserting an underlying unity and allowing for an inclusive approach to multiple faiths."

"...in the realm of religion, it specifically denotes a more integrated merging of beliefs into a unified system, distinct from eclecticism, which implies a selective adoption of elements from different traditions without necessarily blending them into a new, cohesive belief system."

"It provides an opportunity to bring beliefs, values, and customs from one cultural tradition into contact with, and to engage different cultural traditions."

Its called syncretism. The Greeks and Romans have been doing it since the time of Alexander the Great.

phyzix5761··on There's a new "Google Jail" for independent wikis
Every company has at least 1 shareholder. In some categorizations shareholders are called members but its the same function. But, who said companies are run by greedy bastards? Every company tries to make profits so they can continue their business, otherwise they would go bankrupt. If someone starts a venture with the goal of providing a good or service for no profit we have a classification for that. Its called a non profit.
phyzix5761··on There's a new "Google Jail" for independent wikis
Every company is in it for the profits and benefits of its shareholders. Its idiotic to think that companies have benevolent intent toward their customers. If that wasn't the case they would go out of business.

phyzix5761··on I Want a Wife (1971) [pdf]
This belittles men, especially those who are single fathers and have similar career struggles as single mothers. Our perceptions create our reality and if we constantly think we've been given the short end of the stick then we'll look for evidence around us to prove this perception. There's a whole other side to motherhood that comes with fulfillment, meaning, and growth.

All of those are non profit organizations that receive donations. It seems Firefox is owned by Mozilla Corporation which is the for profit branch of the Mozilla Foundation. So again, how do they fund Firefox as a for profit company?

How does Mozilla fund Firefox right now? I'm genuinely curious for a free product, how can they generate revenue without doing shady ad and data collection stuff?
