phito··on Vibe coded a website to share vibe coding tips
Same, Claude really likes purple gradients on buttons.
phito··on We put a coding agent in a while loop
In my experience, LLMs do not make a lot of the security mistakes most developers do, just because it is aware of their existence while most devs just are not. But then they could also make the mistake at some point, and the vibe coder guiding it might not catch it... Do you have any examples? I find this really interesting.
phito··on Ban me at the IP level if you don't like me
My friend has a small public gitea instance, only use by him a a few friends. He's getting thousounds of requests an hour from bots. I'm sorry but even if it does not impact his service, at the very least it feels like harassment
phito··on We put a coding agent in a while loop
Are LLMs better or worse at security than a team full of fresh graduates?
phito··on Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?
Oh I wasn't aware of that. I remember a Dutch friend talking to me about a similar app they had. Maybe they have a re-branded version of it?
phito··on AWS CEO says using AI to replace junior staff is 'Dumbest thing I've ever heard'
It's amazing to make small custom apps and scripts, and they're such high quality (compared to what I would half-ass write and never finish/polish them) that they don't end up as "throwaway", I keep using them all the time. The LLM is saving me time to write these small programs, and the small programs boost my productivity.

Often, I will solve a problem in a crappy single-file script, then feed it to Claude and ask to turn it into a proper GUI/TUI/CLI, add CI/CD workflows, a README, etc...

I was very skeptical and reluctant of LLM assisted coding (you can look at my history) until I actually tried it last month. Now I am sold.

phito··on Home Depot sued for 'secretly' using facial recognition at self-checkouts
Myeah I think you're just going to badly managed stores. Here I just scan my groceries while putting them in my bag. Then I go to self checkout, put back the scanner and pay. It takes about one minute from entering the self checkout to leaving it and there is never any line.
phito··on Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?
In Europe we have itsme. You link the phone app to your ID, then you can use it to scan QR codes to log into websites.
phito··on 'Reading crisis' prompts Denmark to end 25% tax on books
They tax everything at 25%. They just added an exception for books.
phito··on Code review can be better
That explains why it doesn't suck nearly as much as Jira and Confluence...
phito··on Vendors that treat single sign-on as a luxury feature
I wanted to try using n8n in my homelab, but was very disappointed to see the SSO behind a paywall even in the community edition. Bit of a deal breaker for me unfortunately.
phito··on OpenMower – An open source lawn mower
Must depend on the model. I can't hear mine from more than 10 meters away.
phito··on A Global Look at Teletext
Wow this is amazing, and they support vim keys (hjkl) navigation!
phito··on The Quiet Disappearance of Skeptics in the AI Gold Rush
> What class of software can work this bad and still have people convinced the only solution is to double the amount of compute and data they need, again?

Cloud providers :)))

phito··on Claude is the drug, Cursor is the dealer
I agree with you. The downfall will not be caused by the AI working/not working. It will be caused by all the damn lies all these money hungry snakes are shouting.
phito··on Claude Code is all you need
Sometimes, it also tells you it is done, but if you look at the code, there's a bunch of placeholder comments in the style of "will implement this later if we figure out how to do it".
phito··on Claude Code is all you need
Same here, mostly because I avoid it because I really do not like writing queries. Something about the syntax rubs me the wrong way, especially if I have to switch from MySQL/Postgres/MSSQL regularly. I'll use an ORM whenever I can, if performances do not matter.
phito··on 6 Weeks of Claude Code
Well I don't have the patience of waiting for it to find the right solution ahah
phito··on 6 weeks of Claude Code
It's alright until you have a bug the LLM can't solve, then you have to go in the code yourself and you realize what a mess it has made.
phito··on We may not like what we become if A.I. solves loneliness
Children are not born to be your personal care takers for when you eventually get old.
phito··on This Month in Ladybird
Amazing, going to try it again right now. I had also tried a few months ago.
phito··on This Month in Ladybird
You forgot the enormous learning curve of understanding how browsers work and how to write proper code in Ladybug that doesn't waste the maintainers´ time.

Last time I tried, I couldn't find a website that worked with it. Where do you even begin contributing to such a large, complex, very much WIP project? The barrier to entry is daunting.

phito··on Stop selling “unlimited”, when you mean “until we change our minds”
We need better local LLMs to stop relying on these predatory companies. Anthropic is not even 5 years old (and Claude 2yo) and already showing their teeth.

And to be clear, the users abusing the "unlimited" rates they were offering to do absolutely nothing productive (see vibe-coding subreddits) are no better.

phito··on I am a SOTA 0-shot classifier of your slop
Well yes, but I don't think scores are presentative of skill at all. Maybe memorization skills.
phito··on I am a SOTA 0-shot classifier of your slop
I definitely don't like it either. These people make themselves look like their have more skills than they actually do.
phito··on It's rude to show AI output to people
I did, they just shrugged and called me a luddite.
phito··on I've launched 37 products in 5 years and not doing that again
Gross. I would be ashamed to make such software.
phito··on It's rude to show AI output to people
I really wish some of my coworkers would stop using LLMs to write me emails or even Teams messages. It does feel extremely rude, to the point I don't even want to read them anymore.
phito··on French villages have no more drinking water. The reason? PFAS pollution
You're not wrong. I think both are bad and the former is enabling the later.

also I want to clarify that my analogy was more about companies than about billionaires

phito··on French villages have no more drinking water. The reason? PFAS pollution
I would say most people are capable of learning and behaving. But our system is riddled with cancerous tumors that are trying to accumulate all resources to the detriment of the rest of the system.
