To be fair even the greatest translator can't make miracles, if he is not provided with reference/documentation, I am often translating completely in blind, just guessing because client doesn't bother to provide any reference.

it pretty much is, they removed battery and replaced it with direct power supply from solar panels, they mention some additional energy from buttons but I really doubt that would have any meaningful gains, after all how can you generate energy and store it between keypresses unless you will be constantly pressing button in which case you need third hand

All Skype and Facebook Messenger both with SMS support have same issues as Signal, centralized and from even worse big corps. AFAIK there is no IM with SMS support, I wished someone made Matrix client with SMS, it would be insta replacement for my dedicated SMS app and I need SMS support pretty much just to receive verification codes, delivery information etc and once in a few months writing SMS to kidnergarten my sick kid won't come, nobody use and will use RCS, so Signal can keep that BS excuse.

I have none of those, my father has none of those, all we had was Whatsapp and Signal, after the SMS drop it is back to Whatsapp and built in SMS app, my mother and wife have some other apps but not that many, wife has only wechat, mother I think only facebook messenger, so one extra app makes a lot difference especially if none of the contacts outside family use it.

I mean what do you expect from bot which can't provide even correct answer to simple query like "illegal sites with direct download links", first it tells me sites with torrent links, then when I say torrent links are not direct download links but it should be file hosting links it provide me legal file hosting sites instead sites linking them, if I input such query to Google, already first two links are correct without any further clarification

1. Remove Downvote button for everyone, people should be positive, if they like something they should upvote instead downvoting opinions they disagree with.

2. Allow Flag only with provided reason/user name visible to everyone to stop abuse of this feature.

3. Stop changing color of any comment or collapsing them based on some score.

4. Allow sorting comments at least by time and score.

5. Stop removing words like These, How and others from title, they completely change context.

TLDR make it more transparent and more difficult to bots/brigading

this stopped happening immediately after I created new account, if HN would be transparent and showing who flagged or downvoted your comment and everyone would need to provide publicly visible reason for doing it we wouldn't have this discussion

Not sure how it can be easier to use than already supereasy web app, notifications work same via browser and you don't need to install anything, these are really no arguments for desktop app.

If you would say desktop app can do voice/video calls which you actually use (I don't, not gonna open laptop with closed lid and external display for that) I can understand using the desktop app, but for someone who doesn't need voice/video calls on computer and is fine with better camera in phone there is no benefit in installing additional dedicated app.

According Wikipedia and at least 2 different sources they quote, Google peaked in China at 29-35% and even that seems way too optimistic, if you ask anyone who used search in China back then or have been there. By my experience from years ago was Google search in Chinese language useless.

Google never really had any traction in China to start with, their search results were useless for Chinese content, so then they pretended to leave for some noble cause. Same with Amazon who tried for much longer until it gave up after decade.

You have to walk to counter each time you want something in fast food restaurant, in a regular restaurant you have waiter for that. But yeah it's his job for which he is paid, so tips still don't make sense just for doing the job, I don't get tips for doing my job, neither does my wife and most of the occupations.

Here in Europe you can get by without tipping quite easily, but I don't think they would allow you to bring your own drinks and honestly it also doesn't make sense. Why can't I drink my own drink, am I not paying enough for the meal itself that you need to rob me on drinks? Might as well not going to your place at all and eat at home, if you have problem with my own drinks.

People in the first group can decide to not work for the people in the second group, if they don't like the setup. It's in the best interest of both groups to reach compromise, so people in first group can earn money and people in second group can make money.

Just don't tip, simple as that, unless you are big supporter of tax evasion, low pensions and unfair salaries.
