petitmiam··on Mark Zuckerberg Personally Sent a Message to 1 Billion People.
It must be in that 'other messages' folder that no one ever looks in.
petitmiam··on Software on Steam
This sounds extreme. What was the response from steam technical support?
petitmiam··on Facebook wants to do for your career what it has done for your social life
This sounds like a way to vet out companies I don't want to work for.
petitmiam··on Why Mozilla Persona is the right answer to the question of Identity
Background Themes/Complete Themes - sounds like they just created a new problem. Throwing the word 'theme' in there for backgrounds is just asking for confusion.

I think most people understand Wallpapers (Backgrounds) / Themes.

petitmiam··on Click around, hover over a link
I thought that too when I hovered, but clicking is much more fun. You can get a nice swing happening.

The examples at http://desandro.github.com/3dtransforms/ are great.

petitmiam··on StarCraft: Orcs in space go down in flames
Absolutely. Having previously grabbed Counter-Strike (Half-life mod) and Team Fortress (Quake mod), and treating them nicely, most definitely should garner a good reputation.
petitmiam··on Facebook Wants You To Snitch On Friends Not Using Their Real Name
Facebook pushes the their new lists, while ignoring the old ones. I'm constantly suggested to add people to the new lists, but not to the old ones. I started doing this, not realising the lists were different, as my old lists have the same names as the new ones. The only way to distinguish between them is the new icon. Facebook's list management tools don't make this easy to fix up.
petitmiam··on Dear Canonical: please let me pay for Ubuntu
By default, Firefox has an Amazon search listed in the search engine list. Unity lens seem pretty similar.

At present, the Amazon results are only present if you do use the shopping lens or perform an open search. As long as there is an easy way to disable the Amazon results, I don't have a problem with it.

petitmiam··on Dear Canonical: please let me pay for Ubuntu
hold down the Super key for a list of available shortcuts.
petitmiam··on Bank of America Giving Access to Random Accounts
I wonder what they do when the problem is IE. ;)
petitmiam··on Facebook Wants You To Snitch On Friends Not Using Their Real Name
makes you wonder why they are asking then.
petitmiam··on Facebook Wants You To Snitch On Friends Not Using Their Real Name
Facebook had lists. I was happily using them. Then Facebook added more lists with default names, with no way to delete them. Now I'm never 100% confident I've got everyone in the correct list. Who knows what will happen the next time they update?
petitmiam··on F-35's biggest problems: software and bad relationships
My lecturer for 'Software Testing' at uni used to bring up that first issue. He was a total ball-breaker with assignments and exams, but you knew it was for a good reason.
petitmiam··on Hardware is dead
http://www.news.com.au/technology/well-aisle-be-its-a-smart-...

I'm sure there is better out there though!

petitmiam··on Why developers are allergic to job opportunities
> 1. Stop using recruiters.

If that were possible that would be fantastic, but I've found more often than not, you are forced to go through a recruiter to meet the real company. If you ruled out jobs that aren't advertised directly by the employer, you would miss out on a large portion of opportunities.

petitmiam··on Whoa, dude, are we in a computer right now? NASA scientist thinks we could be.
>Then androids could simulate the combination of DNA from parents and have baby androids. :o

well that is the fun bit. :)

petitmiam··on Ubuntu announces 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) Beta 1
The alternate image was useful for downloading now/installing the upgrade later. I guess the single image should be able to do that as well.
petitmiam··on Jimmy Wales threatens to encrypt Wikipedia if UK passes snooping bill
Even if they did keep logs, there's only 2 external IPs.
petitmiam··on Why You Should Start Using a VPN
It's explained under the section "Why You Need a VPN, or How You Can Benefit from Using One", which has dot points for different types of users.
petitmiam··on Good riddance, PayPal
http://www.polipayments.com/ seems pretty good for this.

When you go to make a payment, it logs into your bank account and does the transfer for you. So you get an instant receipt, without having to wait for the money to show up in the merchants bank account.

petitmiam··on BitTorrent study finds most file-sharers are monitored
This is the same in Australia. I went round to a friends house to help secure their router, only to find it was already done by default.
petitmiam··on Reddit’s database DOESN'T has only two tables.
Maybe we should expect a follow up post: 'Reddit DOESN'T use DOESN'T'
petitmiam··on Ubuntu tries to make publication easier for app developers
Ubuntu Software Centre has been around since Oct 2009.
petitmiam··on Walking out of an interview
An all-day interview gives the potential employee a chance to learn a great deal more about the company, than they would have in a standard length interview. In this case, it's worked perfectly. The potential employee has seen/heard enough to know he won't fit in. There's not always enough time to work that out in a normal interview time frame.
petitmiam··on The truth about Goobuntu: Google's in-house desktop Ubuntu Linux
> Bushnell explained that “Goobuntu is simply a light skin over standard Ubuntu.”

Given the headline, I was hoping for a bit more.

petitmiam··on What killed the Linux desktop
I can sympathise with you about external monitor issues. In my office, we all have laptops with external monitors. When we have meetings, all the Windows/OSX users simply unplug the external monitor and take their laptops into the meeting room. The linux users normally just take a pad and pen, as it's too risky to attempt unplugging the external monitor while linux is running.
petitmiam··on Fake Bus Stops For Alzheimer’s patients in Germany (2011)
Interesting. The nursing home where my grandma was, had a car in the courtyard for patients with dementia to sit in.
petitmiam··on Julian Assange urges US to end Wikileaks 'witch-hunt'
Absolutely. After all the support they've given to their citizens acting very stupid in Indonesia, it's disappointing they are so quiet on this.
petitmiam··on Julian Assange urges US to end Wikileaks 'witch-hunt'
I was glad you raised the question, as I had the same thought as you at first. That just cutting and pasting some documents is not journalism.

I then read a tonne of definitions of the word "journalism" and to me. They pretty much all just say journalism is getting the facts out there, in any form. There's no requirement for a journalist to make a "report", for it to be journalism.

I would be interested to see more examples of journalism where no report was written.
