petemir··on Microsoft Outlook Blocking All Email from Tutanota.com Domain as Spam
I worked for a company that sent travel deals newsletters everyday. Deliverability to (then) Hotmail was abysmal.

We then got the recommendation of a company (cannot remember their name) that could analyse our IPs and give recommendations. Naturally, the recommendations were the ones that you could find everywhere so they were not useful, but the company did have access to MSFT's score of our IPs, so we could know when we were close to being blacklisted and could take action/ramp down/etc. How did they have access to those internal IP scores? I don't know, but it seems totally fishy :).

For sure we spent 5k+ USD yearly in this service (which is a huge amount of money in a 3rd. world country), and "somehow" after paying our deliverability did improve, despite doing the same things as before, as the recommendations were not ingenious.

So yeah, e-mail deliverability is a mafia, for sure.

petemir··on Apple pulls plug on Goldman credit-card partnership
Yes, they go around that because they are considered a “three-party scheme”

https://politics.stackexchange.com/questions/48519/why-are-a...

High fees are what Apple uses to offer such “great benefits” with their existing card. If they want to expand to Europe, the only cards enabling that would be Amex, or Diners (which is even less accepted I think).

petemir··on Apple pulls plug on Goldman credit-card partnership
If the Amex partnership includes global (or at least, European) expansion (which seems more plausible than with GS), it may generate extra pressure on vendors to accept it. iPhone market share is quite high in Europe(~35%), and I’d guess mostly comes from high spending sectors (e.g. 56% in Swirzerland, 50% in UK). I would try to attract their business.
petemir··on Apple pulls plug on Goldman credit-card partnership
I hate that it works this way, but perhaps an Apple-Amex deal is what is needed for businesses to start accepting Amex.

Edit: typo

petemir··on Apple pulls plug on Goldman credit-card partnership
At least in Switzerland, Amex is still a pain to use.
petemir··on We Automated Bullshit
Are we sure? (Some) People are still going to vote for Donald Trump in 2024, one of the "bullshit generators" (such as chatGPT) used as example in the article.

(n.b. I am not trying to make any type of political judgement here, I am just using the example in TFA).

From what I gather, only iCalendar can be setup just through iPhone.

> It can display calendars from Google Calendar and any iCalendar link* (ical, ics, ...).

> You need your phone (iOS or Android) only for the initial configuration.

You can setup Google Calendar through Android

petemir··on Pulpatronics tackles single-use electronics with paper RFID tags
At least in some parts of Italy (I was in the Lombardy region) you pay an annual garbage tax where they provide you yearly with a predetermined amount of bags containing an RFID tag. You can still ask for more bags if needed, and I guess that in that case your tax would get adjusted depending on usage (which they track with the RFIDs). Kind of unsettling though that they could link your trash back to you.
petemir··on Pulpatronics tackles single-use electronics with paper RFID tags
Furthermore, I find that barcodes are a bit more picky w.r.t. how to scan them, while RFID is easier.

fyi: apparently that's only a welcome (e.g., first-time user) offer. As soon as I logged in, it changed the price to ~11usd per piece.

My dream: to have every supermarket item embedded with an RFID tag so I can have a constantly up-to-date pantry inventory, with notifications of out-of-stock or near-expired products.

Yes, I am too lazy.

I always envisioned a kind of world peace where all car manufacturers got together and in a not-designed-by-committee way developed a mesh protocol where vehicles and “the city” (i.e. traffic lights, railway crossing and so on) could communicate data to each other in order to ease some of the limitations of current autonomous driving technology.

You are only seeing what Twitter's current front-end is showing you: a random assortment of old/"best-of" tweets.

Enter through an alternative front-end (https://nitter.com/SlackStatus) and you should see more status from this year.
