pepperonipizza··on California moves to cut off water to thousands of farmers
The liters per kg of beef number we often see around is not accurate. It doesn't take into account that most of the water cows need, they urinate it and it goes back into the water cycle.

But it could be, even taking account that they urinate most of what they need, they still need a lot more water per calories than other foods.

I don't eat beef because of the environmental impact, but I recently discovered that the impact of beef has been exaggerated.

It still has a big impact and I will keep not eating red meat, but I am more prudent with the numbers around beef I read in the news.

pepperonipizza··on Haiti’s President Is Assassinated
Still does not explain why since the 50's it never developed, lot of examples of quick development like South Korea, Israel, baltic countries ... I guess it's a combination of a lot of factors, with Papa Doc not helping either. Just next to the border, the Dominican Republic, a former colony is doing way better.
pepperonipizza··on Cuba′s Covid vaccine rivals Pfizer, Moderna
Absolutely, this number may be confirmed when tested by a third party. Medias were cautious on the russian's vaccine claims until the Lancet published a study on its efficacy.

Edit: grammar

pepperonipizza··on Is education no longer the ‘great equalizer’?
Don't you mean Chile? Argentina is a textbook about how not to implement populist left wing economic policy.
pepperonipizza··on Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks
With time I cringe a bit when he takes this voice, still love his work.
pepperonipizza··on Pakistan: A man trying to improve women's underwear
The situation for women in Pakistan is completely different from the US.

Ranked second lowest for gender equality.

Apostasy is forbidden, homosexuality is illegal, religious minorities are often persecuted.

pepperonipizza··on Google diversity head in 2007: Jews have ‘insatiable appetite for war’
Sorry for the source, but it's only them and the dailymail for now. The dailymail link was removed. I think this is relevant for HN because of the unease of being jewish in the field recently. Bitter irony that Google was founded by 2 jews.
pepperonipizza··on China allows couples to have three children
This will not change the fertility rate, there was a bump for one or two years after China allowed 2 children, and the fertility rate went down again, and the tfr is at its lowest since it has been calculated.

Only ectogenesis could reverse this trend. China and the world better start investing more in ectogenesis research.

pepperonipizza··on How Iran Uses Bitcoin Mining to Evade Sanctions and “Export” Oil
I am not american, and I wish iranians to have the freedom to chose their government. Most of them hate the islamic regime, this is a country with so much potential, ruined by a Theocracy.
pepperonipizza··on How Iran Uses Bitcoin Mining to Evade Sanctions and “Export” Oil
Iran is not a democracy, candidates at the presidential election in the coming weeks must be approved by a counsel. The latter doesn't allow liberal candidates, and iranians have lost interest in the coming election because it will keep the Theocracy currently ruling in power.

Also, the supreme leader is at the top of Iran's power structure and is not elected by the iranian population.

pepperonipizza··on Suicide by Culture (2017)
Ectogenesis seem to be the only potential solution, the fertility rate will not go back above 2 in the coming decades in these developed countries.
pepperonipizza··on India may build new coal plants due to low cost despite climate change
Chinese citizens emit more CO2 per capita than citizens from the EU, and since 2013.

pepperonipizza··on Israel may have destroyed Iranian centrifuges simply by cutting power
Is this some kind of a bad joke? Because some countries have BIPOC if they want nukes to not hinder their empowerment nobody should intervene. If all the countries in MENA have nukes, this would be terrible for everybody, it would exponentially rise the risk of nuclear warheads being used.
pepperonipizza··on Cyber Attack on Iran's Nuclear Facility
Are they still considered civilians when they work for a military program that threatens Israel existence? My grandfather was a scientist working for the army, he had a salary paid by the military and was part of it.
pepperonipizza··on Murder up 35.7% YTD relative to 2019 (2020)

pepperonipizza··on Fertility rate: 'Jaw-dropping' global crash in children being born
And this is from 2020, I guess post covid the numbers will be even more dire. Maybe investing massively in ectogenesis is the solution.
pepperonipizza··on Transhumanism: What's the Plan? (2020)
Which is the most active community online outside of r/transhumanism?
pepperonipizza··on South Africa suspends rollout of Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine
The third largest party in SA, the EFF, uses racism frequently. Its rising popularity is a disturbing proof that racism in SA is probably growing.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_Freedom_Fighters

>Since its establishment the EFF has made a number of controversial racially or ethnically based statements about a number of South African minority groups. The EFF is widely criticised for inciting and perpetuating racism.[130][98][131] The EFF is known for staging controversial public protests aimed at increasing political support by driving race division and intolerance. Party practices have been defined as "fascist". [132][133][134][135][136][137][138] This approach has proved persuasive to a largely disenfranchised young black youth in South Africa who are mired by poverty, unemployment and inequality, where all minority groups, in particular whites, are singled out by party propaganda as the sole benefactors and drivers of inequality.

Edit:form

pepperonipizza··on UK banks given six months to prepare for negative interest rates
Pretty much all the countries in America have a fertility rate around 2 more or less. Even Mexico is approximately at 2.1 They will start to lose population in a few decades.

pepperonipizza··on How The Expanse went from game concept to blockbuster TV series
Same feeling, in a way I regret to have continued after season 3, I were warned that season 4 was not on the same level as the previous seasons but to continue to watch. Season 3 ended so beautifully.
pepperonipizza··on Electric cars are coming fast – is the nation’s grid up to it?
From a non-american point of view, I don't understand how a racist comment like this can be tolerated. Generalization like this is one of the reason why your country is so divided lately.
pepperonipizza··on Police Say They Use Facial Recognition Despite Bans
If we let these events continue until they die down, wouldn't that create more of a risk that a death happens than the police intervening to try to stop it?
pepperonipizza··on Robinhood is limiting purchases of stocks: AMC, Blackberry, Nokia, and GameStop
Surprise also how much conspiracy is being upvoted here.
pepperonipizza··on The Insurrection Will Be Live Streamed: Notes Toward a Theory of Digitization
I would recommend Sam Harris who criticizes harshly the Trump presidency and the Capitol events but who also had the most nuanced view of the BLM protests. I am not american but from the few commentators that I heard, it seems that he is a rarety in the US, and tries to have the less bias, even if he admits that he has one.
