pentagrama··on Show HN: I made an app to use local AI as daily driver
Sadly I can't try this because I'm on Windows or Linux.

Was testing apps like this if anyone is interested:

Best / Easy to use:

More complex / Unpolished UI:

Misc:

- https://faraday.dev (AI Characters):

No UI / Command line (not for me):

Pending to check:

Feel free to recommend more!

Congrats! Plans on Windows support?
pentagrama··on Vice website is shutting down
For example a site that I liked called The Outline stopped publishing content in 2020 and they leave the site online at least for now https://theoutline.com/
pentagrama··on GIMP 2.99.18: The last development preview before 3.0
There is a 3.0 beta to try?
pentagrama··on Our next-generation model: Gemini 1.5
Oh, I understand, thank you. To me with the "Gemini Advanced" they screwed the naming scheme.

With an already complex naming for regular consumers (Nano/Pro/Ultra each one with a 1.x), adding this Advanced thing it becomes and spaghetti.

I understand that for most people may be just a chat input and don't care, but if people will consider to pay, they will research a bit and is confusing.

pentagrama··on Our next-generation model: Gemini 1.5
Thank you, is more clear to me now. But I also read in some Google announcement about "Gemini Advanced", do you know what is that and the relation with the Nano/Pro/Ultra levels?
pentagrama··on Final Decision on Chromebook Case in Denmark
Maybe Framework has a opportunity here. With his ethical ethos it can fit.
pentagrama··on Bluesky signups are now open to the public
I tried to sign up and it requires a phone number to verify trough SMS.

Question. The phone will be attached to my account or is for one-time verification? If the latter, it is removed from blue sky database at some point?

Thanks.

pentagrama··on Instagram Threads triples downloads in December, reaching top; X falls to #36
Yeah, I never signed up to Threads and on my Instagram feed the other day I saw a message saying "Sabrina sent you a message on Threads" with a picture of a girl in bikini that I never see. I tap on that and a modal dialog pops up saying "Sign Up to Threads to read the message".
pentagrama··on The Vision Pro
Cheers to the Reader Mode feature of Firefox mobile.

Is odd to me that this page who is reviewing a cutting edge tech with a 30 min reading time article isn't readable on a smart phone.

pentagrama··on Trello Allegedly Breached
Those burner emails always forward the messages to your main email.
pentagrama··on Trello Allegedly Breached
Thanks for services like Firefox Relay that create masked email addresses. I remember being not able to make my email address not discoverable on my Trello account, at the time I complain to support because random people added me to their kanban boards, now I find other issue with that feature.
pentagrama··on Notion Calendar
Sidenote: this page is so sluggish to scroll on my $500 midrange phone. Not a good sign for the brand. Or maybe Firefox?
pentagrama··on App store to be 'split in two' ahead of EU iPhone sideloading deadline: report
I'm in favor of this. That's awesome for me. But my grandpa may ended up installing sketchy apps. Let's see how Apple handle UX and security here.
pentagrama··on Jodorowsky's Dune – Official Trailer HD (2014)
I saw that documentary when released and to be honest, I didn't believe many stories Jodorowsky tells about that project, in some cases he sound like my old uncle adding a bunch of lies to his stories to make it more interesting. Of course he has storybooks and many stories I'm sure are true.
pentagrama··on Cloudflare Termination Video: A Master Class in How Not to Terminate Someone
There is almost no perception that the company acted professionally. So she came out as a person who can stand up for herself.
pentagrama··on Block cookie banners on Firefox
Seconded this, and on Firefox, the extension is also available on Firefox Android now https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/consent-o-mat...
pentagrama··on Delete or hide life-wasting apps
> 1. Delete the app.

I encourage to consider delete the account before delete (uninstall) the app.

pentagrama··on Flipboard Begins to Federate
> If you’re a publisher, creator or brand on Flipboard, you’ll start to see new visitors and engagement as people discover and share your content across the growing Fediverse.

I think it should be opt-in. Users should be asked if their content will be distributed on new places. This is a deceptive UX pattern to push a new feature [1].

pentagrama··on Mozilla expands extension support for Firefox for Android
I'm seeing that this one doesn't have the "Available on Firefox for Android™" tag on the top like Forget Me Not https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/forget_me_not...

Maybe Cookie Auto-Delete is coming soon for Firefox Android.

Here is the repository of Add-ons for Firefox Android https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/android/

pentagrama··on Mozilla expands extension support for Firefox for Android
I was testing some, and this one works like a charm! https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/forget_me_not...
pentagrama··on Mozilla expands extension support for Firefox for Android
Great! Now I can finally install an extension to autodelete cookies for certain domains. This feature is available on stock Firefox Desktop but not Mobile.
pentagrama··on Andre Braugher: Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Captain Raymond Holt Dies Aged 61
I often remember and laugh to the scene when Captain Raymond Holt adds a signature at the end of every text message https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylV7QtfkBFQ
pentagrama··on Walk and Talk
This reminds me the Russian movie Stalker in some way.

> A guide helps a writer and a professor to infiltrate a restricted area, the Zone. Paying no heed to the dangers which lay ahead, they proceed towards the Room in order to fulfil their desires.

pentagrama··on We don't have official RSS feed support for now, but we're working on a solution
I noticed the same for Google's site https://web.dev/

The last article pushed to the feed was "Changes to the web.dev infrastructure" few months ago https://web.dev/blog/webdev-migration

The feed still there but with no updates https://web.dev/feed.xml and on the site you can see new articles published.

Is sad that on a infrastructure revamp of a modern site, the RSS feed was left out of the features list (at least for now).

pentagrama··on Google announces April 2024 shutdown date for Google Podcasts
Google Podcasts user here.

I was waiting for the feature to export my subscriptions to import them to Pocket Casts. I already tested Pocket Casts and is good.

But I'm not seeing yet the export option on https://podcasts.google.com/settings as the article says.

I guess the feature is gradually rolling out.

Someone can see it?

pentagrama··on Open-source drawing tool – Excalidraw
Looks awesome! There is a way to install it as a Windows app and run locally?
pentagrama··on Salad Fingers and the dawn of ‘weird YouTube’
I recently enjoyed the Netflix show I Think You Should Leave, it has some of the absurdist style like weird YouTube but with more budget and mainstream appeal. Recommended.
pentagrama··on No-Bullshit Games
Is great have a resource like this to find quality games.

Recently I purchased the game Limbo for Android, the game is awesome and has no in-app purchases and stuff like that. It is listed on this site [1].

But I find really annoying that each time the game launch, I get asked to create a "Google Play Games Profile" [2], and is no "Don't as again" option, or disable that dialog on Settings. I will dispute a bit the "no bullshit" label.

pentagrama··on 15 years ago, I helped design Google Maps
A bit off topic but I didn't know that on X people can post this long form texts with images in between (it seems that lacks headings). Is nice! A blogging experience added to a popular platform. I guess is a paid feature, fair to me. Also I don't have an account and I'm able to read it.

Some years ago I appreciated the character limit of Twitter because people have to be creative and to the point to express themselves, but with the years I start to thinking that this limitation was also a curse for communication overall on the platform.
