Just had my manager submit 3 PRs in a language he doesn’t understand (rust) and hasn’t ran or tested and is demanding quick reviews for hundreds of LoCs. These are tools but some people are clueless..
Find it a pity that the decision was to remove them instead of owning how the ranking is made. it’s going to be very very hard to differentiate between bots and humans at the dns query level, if possible at all. DNS magnitude is about the dispersion of source ips/networks and if this is a distributed bot net, it makes sense. and it’s about 1.1.1.1 queries, not overall dns queries, which they couldn’t possibly obtain. See this more as proof of the impact of these botnets, which I found super interesting. Removing them just makes it poorer imho.
At the minimum, systems like chatgpt should be forced to link to their sources, so it gives something back and so that its assertions can be verified - right now, it’s just good at bullshitting through questions.
Is the geofencing country level only? So if, using warp, I use trip advisor and go and see nearby restaurants it will have no idea of what city I’m in? Guessing that’s not so but wondering how it works
Monopolies in the long term tend to lead to higher prices because without good competition what’s the incentive to sell with low profit margins? So, sell cheap for years, kill any competition, then the market is yours and you can do whatever you want to the inevitable detriment of the consumer. The consumer also looses in monopolies.
Since it’s missing all the nutrients in the soil and only has those purposefully put in, in the long run I suspect it will be optimized for profit and we’ll get very poor food as a baseline, worse than the one grown in soil on average.
Freedom of speech is both a right and a responsibility. You are free to say what you want but you are also responsible for it. If you lie, slander, etc to make a profit then you should pay in some way. Tbh I don’t understand how people like Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson get away with so much. Much of it blatant making things up / lying about people.
These were literary personas and treated as such by the author himself, not to be confused with dissociative disorders, where the self loses track of which persona he really is.
This is simplistic. The problem is not money per se, the problem is the hoarding of it. Would you hoard oranges? No, because they would go bad. What happens when you hoard toilet paper for example? Other people can’t have it. What happens when you hoard money? Other people can’t buy oranges, apples, etc. they have a lower quality of life. The problem is then that the current systems puts very little control on this hoarding and 99% of humanity is worse off.
That’s why the protocol is open, so there will be multiple players. They will naturally converge like we currently have but that’s not what’s game changing. The game changer is the visibility and control of what data is collected about you.
That is a simplistic view. People also pay for what society values, ie systemic pressures, which is why different cultures and in different epochs value things differently. Eg before people would give a monthly donation to church because they believed it would help getting into heaven.
If users could see the data that was collected about them, like solid proposes, some of it would never be collected anyway. And if it was, it could easily be destroyed, revoked access to, etc
I remember seeing, I think in Netflix’s Explained series, that the salary differences between men and women were the same as the differences between women with children and women within children, making raising children the primary cause for the average salary disparities. This article rings true with that.
It’s a sad reflection of the current world that you were downvoted. It is a matter of power. If it wasn’t professions typicalLy associated with care taking , I.e. women, would not be lower paid than professions associated with men. People in power, mainly men, decide which should be more valued and guess what they tend to value more? Historically software engineering started more a women dominated field (men were in the more valued hardware field then) and as software became more important it became increasingly defined as a men’s field and theories then prop up that it’s the natural way, men are simply more inclined than women. Bollocks!
