pedrogpimenta··on Elon Musk Tesla email: Remote work is no longer acceptable
Probably. But is it worth it, for people? I mean, a country would maybe have more valuable companies of they all have slaves slaving away for peanuts. I mean, it would create value, right? Actually we wouldn't have some of the most valuable building in the world if it weren't for slaves (or the next best thing). But again: is it worth it? Do overworked individuals really benefit from living in a country that has the most valuable companies?

So you didn't read the content did you? At least one part of what the author describes is exactly what you say you want. Go ahead, give it another try.
pedrogpimenta··on Petal Search: lots of good results, low spam
No information whatsoever about what is this, who is this but on the "User Agreement" it seems this is tightly related to Huawei? No, thanks.

Edit: OK, not only realted, this is built by Huawei: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petal_Search

I'm also interested in what microphone would work best for this project, which I absolutely will install on an unused Pi :)
pedrogpimenta··on Ask HN: What's the big deal about YT-dl when streaming has replaced downloading?
It's free, though.
pedrogpimenta··on Ask HN: What's the big deal about YT-dl when streaming has replaced downloading?
Get a RaspberryPi, install Jellyfin, Sonarr and transmission and you won't have to move a finger anymore.
pedrogpimenta··on Ask HN: What's the big deal about YT-dl when streaming has replaced downloading?
Torrent download sites are everything but shady, if you know how and where to look.
pedrogpimenta··on Ask HN: What's the big deal about YT-dl when streaming has replaced downloading?
It's not straightforward, you never know which site is still available, how many will work, how many mirrors you'll have to try. Also, most don't have subtitles, at least not in my language. Also, if you don't have super high speed connection, it may stall.
pedrogpimenta··on Ask HN: What's the big deal about YT-dl when streaming has replaced downloading?
Downloading is more alive than it was 5 or even 10 years ago. And it all started, as usual, because of mega-corp greed.

Netflix solved most of the problem, it was paradise (aside from licensing issues that may mean that you can't watch some stuff in your country)! But... Thus came greed.

And all of the sudden, you need 10 subscriptions to access it all. And not everyone has that money. Actually, most people don't. So you... Choose? You either watch Disney stuff or the other stuff... But Game Of Thrones? Oh now you're on HBO... But no, you need HBO MAX as well... Oh...

So that's the story of how I rediscovered Jellyfin, sonarr, radar, etc... I can have it all and it's free.

It's sad that piracy is the best and most reliable way to consume media, but here we are.

pedrogpimenta··on Drone footage of Tesla factory
It's not even that. It's the fact that something like this exists, has been invented, all of it.
pedrogpimenta··on Drone footage of Tesla factory
Think about this. Think about where we got, as a people. This is out of this world. I don't want to get into if you like it or not or think it's good or not, no. Anyway you feel about Tesla, Musk, mass production, automation, whatever, just stop for a moment and think how the heck did we get here? I was amazed. I know some folks are used to these kinds of environments, but me? It looks straight from a 80s or 90s big sci-fi movie. It's mesmerizing.

Okay.

I don't know if using WordPress is pedestrian but thinking that is pedantic, for sure.

For a while, I was wondering why Nutella, a chocolate spread, had anything to do with this!

pedrogpimenta··on NewPipe: A lightweight YouTube experience for Android
I have all of that, except instead of Kodi, Jellyfin. Also no nzbget because I just found out about that and AFAIK you need some kind of invite to enter a Usenet? I dunno! I get by with torrents :)

Sorry, wrong thread!

pedrogpimenta··on NewPipe: A lightweight YouTube experience for Android
I'm not going to give her any video before she's 2 years old. And after that we'll try to not do it for as long as we can and it makes sense. Because in the end, I watch movies and series and whatever. But she'll want to watch stuff as we're part of the society. And when that time comes, I'll be prepared with a Jellyfin instance to at least curb some of the attention grabbing feed and ads of current systems :)
pedrogpimenta··on NewPipe: A lightweight YouTube experience for Android
I have a 5 month old daughter, so I obviously haven't tried it yet, but I'm pretty keen on and have been setting up a Jellyfin on a Raspberry Pi, so that when it's time for her to watch some videos, I want it to be a closed environment. No ads, no pushing of shit but specially, no endless stream of videos. I think what makes it worse is having the world in their hands and just be able to watch 2 minutes and skip. I see kids doing that all the time and it makes me feel uneasy. If it completely changed my ability to concentrate as am adult I can't fathom how that "power" affects the mind of a child.
pedrogpimenta··on Running a private mail server for six years, easy peasy
That's you, we're still 18190 years behind!
pedrogpimenta··on Ask HN: Why should I trust password managers?
I do the same, with Nextcloud though, but I doubt SkyMarshal would consider that as an enhancement. He, and others, sync it manually and "offline" for security reasons.

pedrogpimenta··on Ask HN: How long until Google charges for private Gmail accounts?
OsmAnd and also Organic Maps are great, I have them installed and use them regularly, specially for non-commercial walks, like parks, etc. But Google Maps has much more information on restaurants, bars, shops, hospitals, post offices, pharmacies, hotels, carshops, etc... And the reviews are also priceless when browsing restaurants. Also navigation wise, knowing speed limits, current traffic (I know, I know, the paradox of data sharing), toll-free roads, searching for exact addresses are much much better on Google Maps. For me, of course!
pedrogpimenta··on Exposing a web service with Cloudflare Tunnel
You can do both or even no TLS if you want. It's easy to choose so on the domain preferences (it's only per domain, AFAIK)
