pedro2··on Battle with bots prompts purge of Amazon, Apple employee accounts on LinkedIn
All bots in IG and FB are pretty easily identifiable from photos (semi-naked woman)
pedro2··on Google is forcing us to make our open source VoIP app worse
Yes but it is troublesome and AFAIK getting more difficult each year.
pedro2··on Google is forcing us to make our open source VoIP app worse
Never? Unless you give up on NFC, banking apps and all those goodies.

pedro2··on Malvertising on Microsoft Edge's news feed pushes tech support scams
Still expecting [not really but...] that Microsoft releases a new Windows Phone with Android app support via WSL2. Not that I'd buy it -- but would bring competition to Google.
pedro2··on MS Teams Linux client is being retired. To be replaced by a progressive web app
And probably won’t.

I’m expecting [no hard evidence to this] the full Office will be on top of Edge’s Webview2 soonish.

pedro2··on Custom Processing Unit: Hook, patch, and trace microcode at the software level
You meant ME? Maybe, they do refer the use of HAP mode on the linked article (Goldmont's Red Unlock) BUT I think the ME platform is required for useful, needed things along the unneeded ones, so I think in the end, you always need a subset of Intel ME working.
pedro2··on Custom Processing Unit: Hook, patch, and trace microcode at the software level
NOTE: I just skimmed very quickly the article and the linked article referring JTAG.

I believe it is providing tools which allow running the Intel CPU in a way equivalent to running a regular program on GDB. It may be possible to use a JTAG but not sure if it is a requirement.

pedro2··on The Dangers of Microsoft Pluton
You may be right, of course. But if you read the article closely, it is already here.

The difference is for now you can still go to BIOS and enable Microsoft's key for 3rd party OS.

Maybe when Windows 12 comes out that option isn't there.

pedro2··on Twitter data breach exposes contact details for 5.4M accounts; on sale for $30k
Too many copycats, never found such site.

Is it a shared number?

Well, if you really wish to go that far we can do a philosophy doctorate. Find me on Libera.chat, nick qa6.

pedro2··on Systemd Creator Lands at Microsoft
Software is going the way other industries go: no real competition, no quality.

It's not that they want to do bad software, it's just they don't have any short-term profit on doing so.

pedro2··on Systemd Creator Lands at Microsoft
Can you elaborate?
pedro2··on Xbox Cloud throttles performance if user agent is Linux
Please increase your level of flexible thinking so you can understand the comparison made.

Thank you.

In the first case (negligence) you were saving water.

On the second case you were trying to kill the plants.

pedro2··on Billion-record stolen Chinese database for sale on breach forum
It was a joke. But it made me realize, thanks to the comment above, that Earth's population is around 8 thousand millions, and not 8 billion as I'd come to believe.
pedro2··on Billion-record stolen Chinese database for sale on breach forum
I honestly didn't know that.

One gets used to short scale on the Internet.

pedro2··on Xbox Cloud throttles performance if user agent is Linux
I think in the end you kinda agreed with me?

QA won't test on another browser or if it does its results are ignored? So they don't make it work badly on purpose, just by negligence.

Regarding to believe it's all accidents, I don't affirm it's on purpose as to not attract shills, paid or otherwise.

pedro2··on Billion-record stolen Chinese database for sale on breach forum
And not receive those sweet dollars?

I am sorry sir, I will not.

pedro2··on Billion-record stolen Chinese database for sale on breach forum
Is it 1 billion in long scale or small scale?
pedro2··on Xbox Cloud throttles performance if user agent is Linux
Of course it's not on purpose. Companies usually don't do this on purpose nowadays.

They just ignore concerns from QA (for example, regarding competitors). Google does this. Microsoft does this.

The days of active malfeasance are gone with Windows 3.1 and its DR-DOS fake glitches (on Win 3.1 beta, toggled off on final).

pedro2··on Windows x64 handcrafted token stealing kernel-mode shellcode
I thought with x64 the days of AV hooking up random places of the kernel were over?
pedro2··on Despite best efforts .NET is still not an open platform
I sympathyze with Icaza because he does a lot of stuff.

His reaction is unexpected though -- after all this is the playbook FSF is always warning as a possible path. He must have been aware of the possible paths and the fear of them when Novell was trying to bring C# onto Linux / Gnome.

pedro2··on Despite best efforts .NET is still not an open platform
We're talking about cognitive dissonance here. If Microsoft hadn't put out "Microsoft loves open-source" statements, then all this would be treated as business as usual.

However MS did. So people are dealing with the dissonance. Some people are being remembered how the strategy Embrace, Extend and Extinguish works.

TL;DR: the attitude MS is having is not open-source friendly.

NOTE: at least today they did state their plans from the start. Props to them.

pedro2··on Browser Extension to Bypass Media Sites Paywalls
No idea. People don't really like to tip. It must be automatic. Maybe BAT & Coil are onto something.
