Watched every minute of that, thanks for posting!

"Receive real time nofitications"

Gentle suggestion to spell check.

peddamat··on Show HN: New data visualization tool and why we made it
Friendly feedback, I almost left before realizing there was a demo button on the sign-in pop-up. I'd make that more prominent.

Also, a few screenshots on the front/inner-page would go a long way.

peddamat··on Minecraft Griefers Demolish 1:1 scale model of Denmark
It's interesting that, in this context, blame the victim isn't offensive.
peddamat··on Snails Are Dissolving in Pacific Ocean
I understand your point, but it's very "glass half-full/half-empty".

Conversely, acid doesn't "eat away" at anything, it's that things happily dissolve themselves into acid.

The problem is the same, regardless of the language used to describe it.

peddamat··on How Real is ‘Her’? Artificial Intelligence Experts Weigh In
Loved this story, you can find it with a quick Google.
peddamat··on How Real is ‘Her’? Artificial Intelligence Experts Weigh In
Sure, but given situations in which it could not respond, it could elicit elaboration. From that point on, it would be able to handle increasingly sophisticated responses to that specific situation. It's a data aggregation problem, similar to what we experience, as humans.

I also question exactly how unique individual elements of our lives are. In aggregate, they are probably fairly unique, but at an elemental level, we're all probably fairly mundane.

peddamat··on Hyperloop
Since Hyperloop is 'Open Source', I wonder if the Chinese government will give it a go.

peddamat··on USA v Lavabit LLC Email Account of Joey006
Warning to anyone reading through that. The contents are horrifying.
peddamat··on 40% Of US Workers Now Earn Less Than 1968 Minimum Wage
Is that because median world income has been ~rising since the 1970s?
peddamat··on 40% Of US Workers Now Earn Less Than 1968 Minimum Wage
Why? The Western 'elite' create an Eastern 'elite', which create a 'South American' elite, which create an African 'elite', until there's no more cheap labor.

The collective 'elite' replace human labor with automation.

Once all labor is automated, there is massive deflation, since no one can afford the output of robot labor.

Then we're left with what, a post-scarcity utopia?

Can greed take us to this utopia, entirely by accident?

I can't think of any other possible outcome on 1000-year timescales.

peddamat··on Moto X review
I wish people would elaborate more on the 'always on' access to Google Now. To me, that's the most exciting, futuristic feature, since Google Now is already an amazing product.

Perhaps not enough people use Google Now to care?

peddamat··on Moto X phone specifications
From the Wired article, they made it seem like they moved the entire Chinese factory to Texas and replaced the humans with automation.

Is that not the case?

peddamat··on Cost of storing all human audio-visual experiences
Dedupe for life experiences.
peddamat··on Introducing Linode Managed
In the last Linode thread I asked the community for secure, comparable alternatives. AWS seemed to be the only option.

Is that still the case?

peddamat··on How Behance gave us the world and took it back in an instant
Good linkbait, I clicked.

Honestly, I'm glad it worked out for you.

After reading the post and playing around with the site, I had two questions: what differentiates Musicfellas from iTunes/eMusic/all the other music platforms on the Internet? How do I know Musicfellas really pays artists?

Kudos with launching, and I did like the site.

Rock on.

peddamat··on Ask HN: Why are many software engineers on a "later" schedule?
Thanks for posting this (as I sit here coding at 5am).
peddamat··on BeagleBone Black: A 1-GHz computer for $45
Wow, ordered on Friday, received today, with the standard shipping option. Digikey rocks!

After reading this post, I thought I would be clever and just install the proper drivers, turns out, you do have to follow krishna2's instructions exactly.

Hopefully this saves others the slight headache, I went through:

- Install the HoRNDIS-rel4.pkg network drivers included on the board.

- Install the FTDI_Ser.dmg serial drivers included on the board. When I installed them, an error message popped up stating something about the OS being unable to use the driver.

- Download the 64-bit drivers here: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm . As of this posting, this is the latest version: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP/MacOSX/FTDIUSBSerialDriv...

- Before installing the latest serial drivers: cp /System/Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist /tmp

- Install the new drivers.

- cp /tmp/Info.plist /System/Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist

- Enjoy!

Here's the error message, for SEO juice:

The 'blog-o-sphere' seems conflicted on Glass.

Personally, it seems like a step towards the inevitable "Entire History of You" future:

I'm excited about it from a UI-design perspective. It'll give us practice designing the head's up applications of the future.

peddamat··on Jekyll 1.0 Released
As someone currently, as in, right at this moment, converting their blog to Jekyll/Octopress. Is there any reason not to simply use Octopress?

From my research over the past couple of weeks, it seems like Octopress is basically Jekyll with a bunch of plugins and niceties.

Potassium permanganate + Glycerin was my go-to as an amateur experimentalist in middle school / high school.

My second favorite was common electrolysis, filling the garage with the smell of chlorine from impurities in the tap water / whatever container I was using at the time.

I wonder if kids get to experience the unbridled joy of discovering chemistry on their own, nowadays.

Of course, I'm sure parents are better off. My poor mother rushed me to the ER far too many times.

I just bought two on an impulse buy. There's really no better time to be a hardware tinkerer.

There are so many awesome kits coming down the pipeline:

peddamat··on Linode Manager Two-Step Authentication
I'm happy with "established VPS provider", and "a track-record of excellent security practices".

After posting, I realized 1 and 3 are a bit redundant. You have to be established to have a track-record, of course.

peddamat··on Linode Manager Two-Step Authentication
Ok, so can anyone recommend an established VPS provider, with a comparable management interface, and a track-record of excellent security practices?
