peblos··on Spotify will end service in Uruguay due to bill requiring fair pay for artists
Do you listen to music on your phone? If so, watch OS and app are you using?
peblos··on Australian Telco Optus CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin resigns after network outage
Lose all your data through an unauthenticated API endpoint? She’ll be right mate

Ten hour outage? Don’t let the door hit you on the way out

The former seems like a much bigger problem in my mind but maybe that’s my bias showing

peblos··on Backlash as Netflix cancels five shows at once including its 'best series'
I guess if they think the engagement numbers are low enough to merit cancelling then then the number of potential cancellations isn’t enough to cause a problem

Maybe that works on one or two shows but across dozens of cancellations surely the overlap finally becomes a larger problem in aggregate to be a problem like you suggest

Or maybe they want the customer who just watches whatever has a new release banner on it without thinking too much

Why do Ladas have heated rear windows? To keep your hands warm when you’re pushing them

What do you call a Lada with a sunroof? A [skip](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skip_(container))

What do you call a Lada at the top of a hill? A miracle

So many of these went around the school playground as a kid. Even the bad ones got a laugh. All could have had Skoda substituted for Lada depending on the day.

peblos··on Experts fear crooks are cracking keys stolen in LastPass breach
Yeah you’re right, URL was unencrypted along with some others.

Doesn’t seem critical if we’re talking Facebook and twitter but becomes problematic with human rights orgs and the like.

The justification was that it was used to match login fields against vault items. I’m no crypto expert but it seemed flimsy to me

peblos··on Experts fear crooks are cracking keys stolen in LastPass breach
I don’t recommend lastpass but notes were encrypted. This stemmed from an original miscommunication from a CS rep to a customer before it blew up but was later corrected.

Independently verified because we can’t take Lastpass at their word: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lastpass/comments/zzz5x4/notes_are_...

peblos··on Joplin – An open-source note taking and to-do application with synchronisation
Think it’s a bit of personal preference to be honest

I tried both a couple of years ago and much preferred obsidian, although I know long term Joplin fans who have pretty tight workflows and love it

peblos··on Jellyfin: Free software media system
I have heard/read of people having the same issue but I’ve never experienced this myself thankfully

Recently checked the metadata cache which was about 1.9GB which felt a bit bigger than I’d have expected but I’m not sure what a typical value is

peblos··on Jellyfin: Free software media system
What does Jellyfin + Infuse give you over simply using Infuse?

I looked at Jellyfin about a year ago and settled on just playing media from my NAS using Infuse but maybe I need to take another look

peblos··on Tesla cancels Model S and Model X deliveries in Australia and other RHD markets
Why do people yearn to drive on the right? Hasn't been my experience in the UK and Australia at least
peblos··on Building an e-ink weather display for our home
Somehow missed this reply, but thank you!
peblos··on 'Bin chickens' learned to wash poisonous cane toads
Yep. Ibis are generally dirty, walk awkwardly, even take flight and land pretty awkwardly so they’re easy to dislike

But they’re pretty chill dudes. Lots of others birds will try to shove them off somewhere else and they’ll either wander away off their own accord, or they’ll completely ignore the other birds (probably a mynah) and just keep eating. They never really fight, they just mosy along

Then you see this big lump of a bird try to find a comfy spot in a big tree which isn’t the most graceful sight so it’s kinda funny. And then out of nowhere (because they’re so quiet) they’ll remind you that love a good HONK. Sometimes they’ll even HONK, HONK, HONK, EEEEK

they’re alright

peblos··on Building an e-ink weather display for our home
I've never seen these, do you know of any in Sydney? A quick Google turns up some 3d printing services in other towns/cities but nothing like this
peblos··on Australia gov wants telco Optus to pay for new passports for data breach victims
I guess the main assumption here is “if it’s an isolated copy of your production system”

If that’s truly the case, and they’re fake data, I’d generally agree. That isn’t what’s happened with Optus and I dare say with many other orgs where nonprod is generally interchangeable with less secure

peblos··on Australia ranked 61/63 countries for entrepreneurship
I wouldn’t describe FTTN (or FTTC) as providing fibre services to customers

FTTP services are increasing but still limited

peblos··on Updated Proton, Unified Protection
1password browser adding needs you to add an extra url against the stored login. Not a problem imo, very rarely does a service change domain like this. This is the case for the safari addin, but Im sure Chrome and others will be the same

A more frequent problem is where a site will authenticate you against some other domain or URL, so its something Ive had to do before and I think someone using 1pass or similar should be able to do

Mobile app lets you search for an existing login when one isn't found for the new domain. After you give it permission to autofill, it will continue to do so

peblos··on A Basic Timeline of the Exchange Mass-Hack
This is true, although if I look at my old company - they've migrated to Exchange Online and run onprem Exchange servers to support the hybrid environment. But they don't need to publish those servers to the Internet.

Many of these orgs should have learned this after [CVE-2020-0688](https://www.thezdi.com/blog/2020/2/24/cve-2020-0688-remote-c...)

If it's a hybrid environment, it doesn't need to be exposed.

That doesn't solve MS problem of coming up with a better solution though

peblos··on Gary McKinnon saved from extradition to the US
That's not the opinion of this Scot, at least. On that note, I have personally experienced similar treatment from English colleagues in a foreign country. And yet, it was an Englishman that gave me the job I'm still working in.
peblos··on Firefox 15 available to download, finally fixes add-on memory leak
I guess one reason would be that you struggle to find a browser
peblos··on Military technology: Magic bullets
My understanding was that it isn't being deployed to win battles, more to test it in theatre in preparation for future wars or export.
peblos··on British student may be extradited to US on copyright charges
Gary McKinnon looks all but set to be deported. It's just an incredibly long process of appeals that has stopped it thus far
