peanut_wormon For advertising, Firefox now collects user data by default

I don’t think Mozilla is trustworthy anymore.

peanut_wormon The fascinating and complicated sex lives of white-throated sparrows

Huh this is news to me. My field guides all mention the color variation but don’t mention differing behavior. One guide even incorrectly says its based on age (it is worth noting they do vary in plumage depending on age, but in a different way).

Another bird that is sort of like how they describe in the article is the Ruff. It is a beautiful type of sandpiper where males are split into 3 categories with different appearance and behavior.

peanut_wormon Oystercatchers are waging war on NYC's beach drones

Most people seem surprised to learn they live for 30+ years

I saw a Kittiwake gull in Florida once and then the same year visited their nesting grounds in Iceland. I can’t believe such a tiny little bird can fly that far and survive. That being said the one in Florida was probably lost lol

peanut_wormon Oystercatchers are waging war on NYC's beach drones

Yeah I have heard lots of birders say that but its just a synonym for “gull”, I don’t see why its bad. They mostly live by the sea, seems fitting to me.

peanut_wormon Oystercatchers are waging war on NYC's beach drones

Oystercatchers aren’t endangered, they are pretty common. You can find them on any beach on the east coast pretty much.

peanut_wormon Tripping on Xenon Gas (2023)

https://www.erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_Xenon.shtml

Erowid has some other records of it. Sounds like nitrous but probably better. I wonder if humans evolved to react this way to certain gases or if its a coincidence.

peanut_wormon Why blue animals are so rare

peanut_wormon Polyfill supply chain attack hits 100K+ sites

I don’t understand why JS devs treat dependencies the way they do. If you are writing scripts that run on other people’s computers I feel like the dependencies used should be vetted for security constantly, and should be used minimally.

Meanwhile most libraries seem to have 80 trillion dependencies written by random github accounts called “xihonghua” or something with no other projects on their account.

A suicidal person is not of sound mind.

peanut_wormon Woman, 23, who survived 2016 Brussels airport ISIS bomb euthanised in Belgium

I have a panic disorder and I have had daily panic attacks from middle school until about 2 years ago. I have attempted suicide before. If a doctor were to indulge my delusions I would be dead now. That doctor is a monster. I refuse to believe that there was no way she could have found peace. Her doctors gave up on her.

peanut_wormon Woman, 23, who survived 2016 Brussels airport ISIS bomb euthanised in Belgium

Imagine if you told your doctor you wanted to kill yourself and they helped you make arrangements. This is terrible, appalling that the Belgian government allows this.

peanut_wormon You Can’t Build Roads Without Oil

We make most of our roads in Florida out of concrete. I am sure asphalt is better for snow but I don’t think I believe that the most powerful country on the planet cannot figure out an alternative to asphalt.
