“We are called at certain moments to comfort people who are enduring some trauma. Many of us don't know how to react in such situations, but others do. In the first place, they just show up. They provide a ministry of presence. Next, they don't compare. The sensitive person understands that each person's ordeal is unique and should not be compared to anyone else's. Next, they do the practical things--making lunch, dusting the room, washing the towels. Finally, they don't try to minimize what is going on. They don't attempt to reassure with false, saccharine sentiments. They don't say that the pain is all for the best. They don't search for silver linings. They do what wise souls do in the presence of tragedy and trauma. They practice a passive activism. They don't bustle about trying to solve something that cannot be solved. The sensitive person grants the sufferer the dignity of her own process. She lets the sufferer define the meaning of what is going on. She just sits simply through the nights of pain and darkness, being practical, human, simple, and direct.”

pavornyoh··on The puzzle doesn't fit.The ex KGB agent and the dancing comedian
It could be. He was accused of being a double agent so you probably are right. I think I am thinking too much. But it is interesting how the Russian president has often been portrayed when he could be a dud? Not as smart and strategic? Just thinking out loud so don't mind me hey haha...

I can't just can't fathom how a man so smart as he is often portrayed - with b*s and feared is head to head with the Ukrainian president. Did everyone get him wrong for years? Hmm...

Yes, it is indeed a simple game. I do agree with everything you have said and I am very familiar with those thanks. I am too addicted to history. Let me ask you this.

Why hasn't Putin been successful with all his experience? Did he overplay his hand?

pavornyoh··on Ask HN: Anything we can do for those impacted by the US immigration ban?
I like to learn new things. Please tell me where his grandfather is from then if you don't mind. Also, just because one disagrees does not mean I [ WE] have been brainwashed by the liberal media as you stated. That is judgmental and for you to just accept the actions of one without foreseeing the consequences in the future is what I'd categorize as not thinking deeply and independently but rather in the moment.

Apart from banning people from these countries, have you thought about its effects on the U.S military people stationed in these countries trying to work and protect the United States? Or does that not matter?

pavornyoh··on Ask HN: Anything we can do for those impacted by the US immigration ban?
Perhaps, you are forgetting his grandfather was an immigrant himself from the kingdom of Bavaria. If his grandfather was not let in, he wouldn't be Potus today.

What are the consequences if he decides to ignore the courts ruling? Can someone elaborate please? Thank you. As an immigrant, America changed my life and people should be afforded the same privilege regardless of religion, country etc. This is just ridiculous.

Good. Thank you ACLU although it is just a temporary relief.

pavornyoh··on Ask HN: What are your startup ideas that you aren't pursuing?
I'm going to keep posting this topic on HN - partially because I think the answers will be interesting

I hope this doesn't sound harsh but you have asked this question seven times in the last fourteen days and have received minimal response. Why keep asking? What makes you think people are going to be responsive in the near future?

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is ....

pavornyoh··on UK votes to leave EU
A bit of a naive question as I am fascinated by what is happening. I admit I don't completely understand so my question is if the UK is made up of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland why aren't they represented at the European cup currently being held/played in France as the United Kingdom?

Why are they playing as separate countries yet voting together to leave the EU? I don't get it.

pavornyoh··on Ask HN: What's a small problem that bugs you in your every day life?

I really like this. Will you be including other shows as well? Is there a way to set a time for when the text should be sent? Because, I'd like to witness the reaction live when the text is received:).
pavornyoh··on Curtsy (YC S16) lets women borrow dresses from their neighbors
Users can request a dress and meet up with the owner in a matter of hours.

My question is meet where? Are these people verified to be legit? Isn't meeting physically before getting the dress going to pose a problem / bias?

As a woman, personally I don't want to meet the buyer/seller for fear I might not be that open-minded after meeting either for many many reasons.

pavornyoh··on Ask HN: Can someone solve this mystery for me about a saying at JFK's funeral?
Got it. Thank you!!
pavornyoh··on Ask HN: Can someone solve this mystery for me about a saying at JFK's funeral?
Interesting. Thank you. My next question is why was Great Britain's anthem played at the ceremony? Did it have to do with the colonization of America? Sorry, I born in the 80s and my attempt to get these answers didn't yield me any results and I figured I get an answer from here :).
pavornyoh··on Apply HN: – Linkedin without the spam
I said this before. The recruiters are not the problem as they are likely not going to give you a lot of info. for fear of losing out.

It is the users you have to talk to. I have spent countless hours talking to users and employers over the last 8 months as I am doing something similar to OP. There are so many changes they will like to see with some voiced out here in the thread. There are also many ways to monetize as the employers I spoke with are frustrated and willing to pay for the right service that yield results.

pavornyoh··on Downvoting should come with a mandatory one-line explanation
in essence, that you have to be popular in order to dissent?

No, I am not saying that. And if I understand the dissent correctly being used in the sentence thus, hold or express opinions that are at variance with those previously, commonly, or officially expressed, you are already doing that to my post as an example and you didn't have to be popular to express such an opinion.:)

pavornyoh··on Downvoting should come with a mandatory one-line explanation
I honestly think the entire idea of downvoting available only for selected users creates a mass conciousness manipulation tool.

Downvoting is available to anyone who has 500 karma points or more and is not for the selected few. That ability has to be earned so to speak..
