pajju··on HN Cheaters: Catch me if you can
Thanks.

It was an open opinion & you understood it well. Others simply downvoted it.

I don't feel anything for downvotes, but opinionated things gets often misunderstood and the whole discussion stops there.

The Idea that someone brings a new conscious(new topic) open for discussion is also gone down by downvoting. The essence of further discussion is thus diluted, because of first few downvotes or no enough upvotes.

This is still a persistent problem in HN, if there is a downvote, there can be fair explanation too(as you did) or don't push it so down, so others might re-consider this topic to be validated.

Nice, these kind of open discussions is the way looking forward.

pajju··on HN Cheaters: Catch me if you can
overall reputation he/she has earned in the HN ecosystem.

A light (grey shade)color underline can shown up as his overall reputation, function of his contributions, activity in HN etc.

pajju··on HN Cheaters: Catch me if you can
Additional feedback:

5. Use of better colors: For following keywords or topics & colors for users by active | top | influencers etc.

6. Verified accounts.

7. Use of on Demand Badges like: Trustworthy User Badge, Looking for(Badge), Looking for co-founder, Hiring, Remote jobs etc.

All these can be grouped under a Paid plan? I would definitely pay for value & additionals, even a good mobile app experience is missing.

8. There is lack of networking and peer discovery in HN.

They should add community managers & make this evolve. Take it to the next level.

9. Follow options: Follow this discussion, Alert-me's, Follow Posts by keywords.

10. Finally, there is lot of scope to Improve.

HN team & YC should Rise up to the expectations and deliver richer experiences. What are they doing?

11. Add a separate Top Link: Voice-UP your concern.

This is for: Alerting, finding loopholes in the system(gaming the system etc), User Site feedback, new interface ideas.

Creating a vibrant HN ecosystem is the way looking forward. Lets do it.

pajju··on HN Cheaters: Catch me if you can
Good that someone raised this topic.

1. Many good articles & posts don't get upvoted.

2. There are pre-formed HN groups who game the system often.

My Feedback

1. Some special users can be given special Front-Page-Post Button permission.

Say, 3 Top Users have voted this Post for FP(Front Page)

2. Frontpage should not be the highlighting part of HN. At least it looks like that as of now.

The other good parts of HN: new|Ask|Show be shown side by side or given equal weightage.

3. Giving Better experience is the challenge.

The Front page feed can be a variable of Votes, Interest based.

There is lot of scope for improvements.

4. Users Gaming the system, be strictly banned for X Days and shown in different colors.

pajju··on Ask HN: What is wrong with Reserve Bank of India?
This is a good topic to Discuss in length.

As someone pointed out, the future is headed towards Closed Wallets - Paytm or Apple Pay.

In India, most of them don't understand security. Online banking is nascent, still not reached critical mass.

Many transactions happen via Cash on Delivery here in India. I run Jumkey.com - a Jewellery Marketplace, more than 70% of orders are on COD.

I feel, RBI has made enough good choices and protecting customers first. Banking Rules should be Strict.

Paypal was promoting easy money movements without trace being left. So, How RBI reacted makes sense in that context.

Coming to Innovation, 2015 is all About Mobile and Mobile Wallets. Will only get better overtime.

pajju··on Show HN: Ghostnote – Contextual notes and todo app
Thanks.

I always bought Mac software from Paddle, as it supports trial versions.

Worth mention, very surprising that Apple doesn't allow Trial versions.

pajju··on Show HN: Ghostnote – Contextual notes and todo app
I was expecting a Trial version to try out, whether it fits my workflow, but its not there.

Please consider adding a trial version.

pajju··on How startup Fab died
I presently Run Jumkey.com - currently Positioned as India's largest Jewelry Destination. Its been a Roller-coaster ride so far.

Have kept our Operational cost very low. Worth mentioning, we are still a small team of 3, very complementing, managing the whole eCom, mobile apps(iOS and Android) and without any external funding - Completely bootstrapped Venture.

Let me share my experiences so far -

1. Think Really-Really-Big from Day 1.

2. Reaching Profitability is easy in eCommerce, if the cost of operations are kept low. Know where expenses are going most.

3. Learn to Say NO to Crap Investors.

Don't raise money from wrong Partners. Raise money only if you really want to. Needs, wants are different. Sooner or later you'll suffer otherwise.

Jumkey was approached by Top Investors, and we've told NO.

4. User on-boarding experience is very Important.

5. Build Partnerships.

Build a network of Partners who shall build the Brand and do sales for you, Delegate sales & marketing efforts to specialists. Delegate tasks. Don't be a Jack of all.

6. In the early days, what matters is - Growth Hacking and Building Trust, Confidence.

Growth Hacking makes more sense than Spending Millions on advertisements. We Invested heavily(time) on Growth Hacking.

Results = have 50K+ Combined followers from Social networks.

Biggest transition happened to me was - turning into as a growth Hacker, being frugal on expenses, Saving a lot of money.

7. If you're in confusion, Consult early.

8. Finally, Validation based model is the key to Run any Business.

pajju··on What is a Hacker? (1985)
We need a Change.

Hacker should never mean a Cracker.

Cracking is illegal and brings a Negative Connotation. The Media still uses & refers Hackers for Crackers too. Why so?

Hacker word should bring a Positive Connotation. Hackers are the change makers: Working on Good & Great things.

There was a Change.org Petition: Asking media Companies NOT to use 'Hacker' when they mean 'Cracker' https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7838663

What can we do to bring a change? Please share you Ideas. Let's do something.

pajju··on Google.com/killer-robots.txt
For those who missed this story:

Its the 20 year anniversary of the robots.txt file.

The new Google Easter Egg robots.txt was uploaded recently, on the anniversary of the Robots.txt file.

You can access the new Robots file at google.com/killer-robots.txt.

The new File Reads as:

User-Agent: T-1000

User-Agent: T-800

Disallow: /+LarryPage

Disallow: /+SergeyBrin

T-1000 and T-800 are the different versions of Terminators for the movie series, The Terminator. Here its telling these two killer robots to not kill the Google founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Pun Intended.

Now Larry & Sergey are safe enough.

pajju··on Introducing Swift
There is the official Swift Book: The Swift Programming Language by Apple Inc.

Book Link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/the-swift-programming-langu...

Swift is a new programming language for creating iOS and OS X apps.

Swift builds on the best of C and Objective-C, without the constraints of C compatibility. Swift adopts safe programming patterns and adds modern features to make programming easier, more flexible, and more fun. Swift’s clean slate, backed by the mature and much-loved Cocoa and Cocoa Touch frameworks, is an opportunity to reimagine how software development works.

This book provides:

- A tour of the language.

- A detailed guide delving into each language feature.

- A formal reference for the language.

Hope it helps.

Valuable points. Appreciated!
pajju··on Cython 0.20
Hey Hi and nice to see you in here! :)

And this makes my day!

What a nice moment, isn't it? And checking you back in HN after 5 long years! Robert and Stefan, the guys behind Cython; admired them a lot for this day & for the places Cython has reached.

Also will never never forget the fact that - you reviewed my first Patch, that was 5yrs back! Cython 0.1 version :-) <Big smile>

And this makes my day! Thanks.

pajju··on Cython 0.20
It was version 0.11.1 & 5yrs back, and I was in undergrad college. We used to hack on the cython code all night. :)

I got very Poor Grades that whole term.

And I can't forget those days, we used to hack all night on cython code but missing very important college lectures!

I did not even know how to commit!

But, It was pure thrill. Those were the days, I badly miss today!

And surprisingly I also fixed a very critical bug, that was the very first bug I had fixed in my Life. I started to realize, valuate & appreciate Open source & the reach of OSS!

cython changed my perception about software!

That marked my entry into OSS, and I was writing & optimizing for good code with standards and all the documentation. Until then I couldn't appreciate anything much of OSS.

* I literally danced around after I submitted that bug, and incidentally it got approved and committed too! :D

And it was the very early days of Cython Project <ver 0.11>

http://trac.cython.org/cython_trac/ticket/203

And today when I checked Cython Project, I feel awesome within, all around my body; esp the way Cython has grown & is being consumed across!

Power of OSS!

We should be honoring and celebrating every project out there that has done so much to Humanity!

pajju··on Yahoo to auction over 100 domain names ranging from $1,000 to $1.5 million
Thanks. is it so?

Apple's service is very poor here in India. They just don't care for second world countries. And I had purchased this for that reason. I like to give it away, if goes for a good cause.

pajju··on Yahoo to auction over 100 domain names ranging from $1,000 to $1.5 million
Fellow HN'ers,

I had purchased a domain which I'm planning to Sell now. (iAppleService.com)

I'm totally new to this Domain Selling business.

- How do you guys proceed to find the Right buyer? Can someone share their experience. Looking for help.

pajju··on Ask HN: Why can't I see downvote or upvote arrows anywhere?
We need to reload the New-CSS-file, because that older-version i.e stale-CSS file is causing this issue!

How to fix it?

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="news.css?1382794165">

Copy-Paste the above into your address bar & Reload HN. The new CSS file will be Rendered and issue fixed.

Hope that helps. :)

pajju··on Sir Trevor Editor
I loved that Text typing effect on the Homepage.

Can anyone share more details on that? It can be cool for pitches.

pajju··on At.js – A GitHub-like textarea autocomplete library
Can you share the link for that? Thanks.
pajju··on If you use Google+, you could become an ad next month
Exactly. Reviews do more good. Than harm.

- Reviews have helped me a lot in choosing better products and services thus saving time. I always search for reviews in Amazon, Flipkart and in Google before I make a buying decision.

- And a Social graph on top of reviews = win. Social reviews means, better buying decisions.

Social reviews will only help Internet community move forward!

- Lets not forget that — Google has the most Credible accounts(read-as verified) so this keeps reviews - real, unbiased and the data credible.

But, they should make sure that - they show updated reviews, not stale ones!

A Product review might remain the same(phone review), but a Service review(restaurant) might change over-time.

Finally, I wish good products and services for myself. And with social reviews, we are only helping each-other in a better and safer Internet experience.

pajju··on Flutter (YC W12) acquired by Google
Its great to see a good product acquired by google, a perfect fit. Goes to Right hands.

And I hope, Google brings them to the common man sooner in very elegant ways. 2013 is the age of new Interfaces.

But, I always have this problem with Google - I don't like to see Google as an Engineering first company. They engineer so much, sometimes never reaching common man.

They must first focus from elegance, we call them Top to Down. I've made this mistake a zillion times tyring to engineer too much and forget on usablity and serving purpose.
