pachouli-please··on Original Sony PlayStation 2 security chip 'broken wide open' after 26 years
Do you know of any good recent-ish resources for learning about jailbreaking and sideloading titles on the ps3? Last time I was trying to figure out how to load my game backups I gave up as it seemed way complex compared to the xbox 360.

Very quick, but I wonder how much of it comes from the clock speed bump (4.93 GHz from 4.26 GHz, +15.7%) instead of overall platform IPC improvements.

If it were largely clock speed, I worry we'll find that thermal throttling makes these numbers only generally available in the lab or very short bursts before the device gets too warm.

That said, very excited for what that means for the Neo laptops with more thermal headroom once they get a refresh, and if it happened to be this chip. Though I suppose that is unlikely, as they seem to be adopting a strategy of using past-gen chips for Neo.

Presumably the measure of distance from the source to receive dosages under those conditions.
pachouli-please··on Saying 'Google It' Makes You Sound Old
I quietly like it because it erodes a company's ability to strong-arm via trademarks if it's part of common parlance.
pachouli-please··on I indexed 669 GB of my GoPro videos using my M1 Max computer and local ML models
It's also a bit apples (heh) to oranges for a handful of reasons, but most impactful

- "unified" ram makes all the system ram available as VRAM - dedicated ai coaccelerator thingy

Both of these reasons allow the apple silicon chips to crush conventional cpus in these kind of AI model workload stuffs

No idea about what the windows arm stuff is capable of. I know they use Qualcomm snapdragon chips though.

pachouli-please··on Google Ends Support for Lynx Browser
Google's job is to sell ads, not provide accessibility to text-only browsers.

pachouli-please··on Show HN: OmniTools – Self-Hosted Open-Source Swiss Army Knife for Everyday Tasks
Heic to jpeg would be cool, my mom doesn’t have an iPhone and has to handle iPhone pictures regularly, which confuses her

Also I see split pdf, but create pdf from a collection of selected pictures would be cool too!

Neat project. Always love self hostable

pachouli-please··on Urban Dead is shutting down
What a shame, having gotten into Torn recently, this scratches a similar itch and I would have liked to try it.

Any other hidden text-y web gems out there like these two that I should check out?

This is so epic. Makes me want to create web pages myself which I never really have to date.
pachouli-please··on Why Do Older People Waste Their Time Playing Dumb Phone Games?
I'm not sure this is an age-specific issue.

Though I do find it entertaining that the older crowds are so sucked into phones when they spent the entire Millenial/beyond generation's time complaining of kids being too 'into their screens.'

pachouli-please··on America Must Free Itself from the Tyranny of the Penny
On the anecdote subject, I use debit cards 60% of the time and cash 40% of the time. I am continually trying to use cash more to keep payment processors out of my commerce habits (or at least via that angle).

That said I think everything below the quarter is useless and just adds a ton to cash handling difficulty and expense. It'd be sad to see them go as they were/are staples of currency in the US, but functionally their purpose is so seemingly useless.

pachouli-please··on Gainax, known for 'Evangelion' anime production, goes bankrupt
It stings a little, but most of the Good People have gotten around to other studios anyways. As I understand it gainax was really just an IP holding company for the most part in recent time
