* Backfired * :-D
oxonia··on The AirPods Effect
They are useful for blocking the obnoxious sounds that modern life impose upon us. The largest consumer hardware chain in Australia, 'Bunnings', plays a notice over the store loudspeakers regularly (perhaps every 15-30 minutes) warning that violence against staff will not be tolerated.

I'm not in any way an anxious person, but for some reason, the constant suggestion that I'm in a place where violence is a risk makes me feel upset so much that I don't visit my local store without my noise-cancelling AirPods.

oxonia··on Firefly ‘Blue Ghost’ lunar lander touches down on the moon
"At the end of its operations, Blue Ghost will stay put, destined to remain on the moon’s surface indefinitely."

Is that a euphemism for "Humans are leaving rubbish to pollute another part of the universe?"

oxonia··on Regex Crossword
Edited - never mind, this is obviously random strings of characters.
oxonia··on The closure of a Methodist chapel on Tyneside
What kind of activities could they do that would appeal to you (and other young people like you)?
oxonia··on The closure of a Methodist chapel on Tyneside
I've moved across the world 4 times in my adult life. Every time I have made deeper and faster community connections by joining a local church than through any other means.
oxonia··on Show HN: I made an app to use local AI as daily driver
This is disappointing. Anything similar available for Intel Macs?
oxonia··on Bluesky has launched RSS feeds
That was my experience with Mastodon. Discussions tended to turn shrill and regularly be dominated by extremes.

oxonia··on macOS Sonoma is available today
Yes, the Homebrew message does seem unnecessarily hostile. Not everyone can afford to buy a brand new computer every year.
