Although I am younger than you, I feel somewhat similar. The never ending treadmill of technology seemingly makes things worse rather than better. I’m working in robotics, and I think is this actually the right thing to be doing? - but if I dont, then I wont eat and afford my future.

Really feels like society is burning the candle at both ends.

ost-ing··on Sleeping beauty Bitcoin wallets wake up after 14 years to the tune of $2B
Whats been shown is that if you hold bitcoin for 4 years or longer the investment has performed very well and significantly outperformed the S&P. Companies buying billions worth of bitcoin are thinking strategically about it, they arent retail investors who panic sell after a few months
ost-ing··on Sleeping beauty Bitcoin wallets wake up after 14 years to the tune of $2B
The value is in the network itself. Lots of people think that its the digital tokens or coins that have value, but its the system as a whole.

The value is also in the “need”. Corporate treasuries need a way to store wealth that doesn't inflate over time, gold inflates 2% per year, bitcoin 0% - so it fills an institutional need

> But landing somewhere, installing a new flag and government and pushing people out of their land through force is completely out of line.

Nobody is debating that.

Not sure if you can read, so I’ll reiterate - the debate here is the willingness of people to use sweeping and discriminatory terminology to categorise all the different types of Jew's as being “non-native” which is categorically false and frankly offensive.

ost-ing··on IDF officers ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near Gaza food distribution sites
> It is like me claiming the land of any country

Im not talking about claiming land - I’m talking about culture, racial identity and their heritage to lands. You keep bringing this as a talking point, but I already said heritage does not equate to or justify nationalism.

> Heritage that is so remote that it doesn't matter anymore. Most of their ancestors left centuries ago.

It doesn't matter? Obviously it does matter. I wonder if you think the same of African Americans and your willingness to deny them of African heritage.

What about eastern european Jews that actually look semitic, that have middle eastern features? Do you also negate them of heritage, or just white skinned Jews?

Your bias is palpable.

ost-ing··on IDF officers ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near Gaza food distribution sites
> Just because they are not native doesn't mean they can't live there

I don't make a claim that they should or should not be allowed to live there. My statement isnt about rights to land, oppressing others or national zionism.

My statement is about heritage and what it means to be “native”, obviously what that means for people and genetic links to semitic peoples varies greatly, and as such, you cannot make blanket statements that “jews are not native” just because you disagree with the nationalist movement.

ost-ing··on IDF officers ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near Gaza food distribution sites
Im not saying that any of this excuses the nationalist movement Israel is today, im just stating a fact that semitic descendants in Europe have heritage to those lands. Just because someone appears white and blue-eyed doesn't necessarily negate that.

Judaism is an ethno-religion, so while some people may have no connection to semitic people, others will have a closer connection and its discriminatory to simply say “they are not native” which my original post was critical of.

ost-ing··on BYU study: Why some people choose not to use artificial intelligence
Im pretty close to not using it, mainly because I rage trying to explain something akin to a 6 year old while its smearing shit on the walls.

True engineering requires discipline, anything short of this philosophy is brain rot and you will pay the price in the long term

ost-ing··on IDF officers ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near Gaza food distribution sites
Latent? Ive seen flagged comments playing into age old european conspiracies that Jews are controlling the world - on HN.

The reality is a fortified Israel was born of Jewish trauma and while the citizens of the world continue to propel antisemitic nonesense, despot nationalists like Netanyahu will have excuses to justify horrific actions

ost-ing··on IDF officers ordered to fire at unarmed crowds near Gaza food distribution sites
> Be aware that Jews are not native to Palestine, except those that had been living there before the state was founded.

Not true, many Semitic Jews who fled from those lands due to persecution went to Europe and North Africa, that includes Ashkenazi and Sephardim Jews.

The difficulty I have with your statement is akin to denying a white, blue eyed aboriginal in Australia their heritage to the land just because one of their ancestors slept with a European colonialist - its fundamentally racist. White skinned blue eyed Australian aboriginals exist.

ost-ing··on What “working” means in the era of AI apps
I tried using Claude Code, was utterly disappointed with using it and it cost me a lot of money very quickly. Just goes to show these tools can augment and improve your workflow and knowledge, but in their current state they cannot replace you - any CEO who says otherwise has no clue and is riding the hype train

Fpga is kind of like the final frontier in my embedded trajectory, haven’t made the leap yet mainly because microcontrollers or fixed arch cpus are fast enough for most consumer tech. I’d love to give it a shot one day though
ost-ing··on Net-Negative Cursor
Everyone can use these tools to deepen knowledge and enhance output.

But, there is a difference between using LLMs and relying on LLMs. The hype is geared toward this idea that we can rely on these tools to do all the work for us, we can fire everyone, but its bollocks.

It becomes an increasingly ridiculous proposition as the work becomes more specialized indepth, cross functional, regulated and critical.

You can use it to help at any level of complexity, but nobody is going to vibe code a flight control system.

ost-ing··on Ask HN: Facing unemployment – what now?
From my own personal experience with burnout, what I learnt was that life isn’t linear, and no matter how hard you work to make it feel that it is, your dharma will humble you in some way shape or form. Our society falls drastically short on helping us deal with the actualities of life, or even worst, society deceives us, and as a result we can feel stranded, and have little in our toolbox to navigate through the harder times.

I learnt that sacrifice was a necessary part of life. Giving up substantial money working a full time job to pursue my own business and health goals. 5 years later, I still have to make that sacrifice as many companies only hire FTE, but thats the price I will pay for my freedom.

The financial sacrifice has been considerable, but thats just how it is, and thats OK, because what I get in return is greater; self-determination, flexibility, spontaneity, opportunity, and best of all, I get to build stuff that actually interests me.

The other thing I got in return is the ability to challenge myself in the most optimal way possible to advance my skills and grow as a person. A comfy webdev job is an insidious way to atrophy the body, mind and spirit.

The reality is, had I not changed path, I probably would be still burnt out so I didn't really have a choice in the matter, the signs were so obvious you’d have to have your head in the sand to ignore them! I remember the weakness I felt, waking up so exhausted, frail, like an old man! Thats no way to live.

Some more actionable advice:

1. I have pretty intense ADHD, and I certainly don't fit the corporate mould. Neurodivergence can be a gift if you can wield it. I get hyperfocus from my work (I did 14h today, and would have done more if my partner hadn't stopped me), it fits in with entrepreneurship for sure.

2. Consistent Exercise is one of the most crucial things I learnt to do. It literally changed my life and lifted me (no pun intended) out of my burnout, depression and addictions. I started going to the gym 3-4 times a week, hitting the 90deg sauna afterwards. I never liked gyms or that culture, so this really says a lot. I cant emphasise enough how much this helped me.

3. Don't be afraid of letting go if what you are holding onto makes you miserable. Trust in yourself.

Good luck. Feel free to dm me if you want to talk more.
