osconfused··on Contract-Centered Iterative Stability v4.7.3
I’m the author. This is a bounded experiment, not a claim of universal model failure. The result here was that when a rule had to hold across multiple mutation paths, code-only prompting repeatedly fixed the named path and missed the equivalent unnamed one; spec-first runs updated all affected surfaces. The page includes limitations and linked artifacts.
osconfused··on Using Google without a Google+ profile
IMO. The problem for Google with real names was people who didn't want to be associated with their real names and already were deeply dependent on Google for the their phone / email. I recall the transgender outing articles [1]. Regardless of whether is was user error or not, it highlights that Google had a different hill to climb than Facebook regarding real name policies.

osconfused··on Hackers Remotely Attack a Jeep on the Highway
I appreciate your call to the cops and your reasoning. I also have driven a significant number of miles for work and have seen a number of people killed in traffic accidents. This "test" was extremely irresponsible. I know I will be downvoted for saying this, but I think you made the correct decision.

Here is a pretty neat WebGL site where you can test that theory. http://david.li/flow/
osconfused··on The boring front-end developer
This makes me wonder if there is a SEO bump/penalty associated with article dates.
osconfused··on The Aol Chat Room Monitor Revolt (2014)
Originally, yes it was an acronym, then they officially changed it to a word in 2006. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AOL
osconfused··on How for-profit prisons have become the biggest lobby no one is talking about
We, as a nation, elected "tough on crime" politicians. As you already pointed out, the private prisons lobby. They lobby the politicians we as a nation elected. We have a democracy, we vote for tough on crime politicians. As a result, we imprison lots of people.
osconfused··on Graphene Brings Photodetectors to the Brink of Terahertz Speeds
Pretty awesome article. Wish I understood more about what impact this discovery will have on computing. Will this mean faster cameras and higher FPS when shooting video?
osconfused··on Who Owns the Copyright to “Happy Birthday”?
Great summary. I had heard this song was copyrighted, but didn't realize the history behind it. It will be interesting to see the outcome of the lawsuits challenging the copyright.

osconfused··on A week with Yubikey – no need to remember any passwords
I have a yubikey. I primarily use it in conjunction with Lastpass. It works well. I like it. I kept the Google authenticator app for email, but let Lastpass manage all the passwords for basic websites for me.
osconfused··on JavaScript's world domination
I believe ffn is referring to the ternary operators [1] not using identity operator, but rather the equality operator.

osconfused··on Higher-Order Functions in JavaScript
On the topic of functional JavaScript, a few interesting articles and books I have been reading that have helped shed more light on this subject matter. I particularly enjoyed the Functional JavaScript book [2].

fun! wrote something similar a few years ago.
osconfused··on Superfluous Patterns of JavaScript
These strike me as more syntax tweaks than "patterns".
osconfused··on Secure Alternative to Skype Based on WebRTC
Neat idea, are there any technical articles that expand more on the implementation and the tech team?

osconfused··on Sass Guidelines
Is the primary benefit of SASS to reduce development time? I find it slows me down having to wait for it to re-parsed on every pageview during active development. Does it offer any other tangible benefits?

osconfused··on Real-World JavaScript Anti-Patterns
Anti patterns? To what specific style of development? Imperative programming? functional? Class based / MVC / object oriented? Prototypical? This article lacks clarity and draws no useful conclusions.

"so one obvious improvement would be to use selectors instead of the execrable DOM API"

Additionally, DOM API is slow. Wrapping your access to the DOM in additional layers of abstraction isn't a win or "anti pattern". It's a maintenance trade off.

osconfused··on How to Automatically Back Up and Purge Your Gmail Every 30 Days
Was GMail compromised by the Sony attackers? I was under the impression Sony internal emails where leaked, not GMail.

If you really didn't want people to read your emails, why not just encrypt them instead of sending in plain text over the open internet using an ad driven service?

osconfused··on 2 years with Angular
Question: I also like a minimally structured app. I've experimented with Backbone.js. Have you tried it? Did you decide to go with msngr.js after using Backbone?

I feel like I spend a lot of time trying frameworks, only to find very little benefit. Happy to learn more, but would love to have some basis of comparison to some tech I've worked with to date.
