Price history on CoinedUp: http://doge.yottabyte.nu/
Dogecoin has a surprising momentum to it. I'm curious what role it will play once the initial novelty wears off. There are many more Doge than Bitcoin or Litecoin, so a single Doge will never be unattainable. It has a long way to go to even reach parity with the penny.
That alone is currently a significant volume to liquidate. Enough to move the price 4-5% on some exchanges. Bitpay only takes a ~1% fee, but I assume their exchange rate is padded to absorb some of that risk. They may also sell bitcoin off the exchanges, which doesn't have a direct impact on the price.

Another popular metric, since output volume can be pumped up by sending the same coins over and over gain, is Bitcoin Days Destroyed.

Also transactions on the exchanges don't show up in the blockchain.
Coinbase is already unsatisfying, as far as software wallets go, because you have to register with an email address. Your coins are held in a shared wallet, not on the device. But at least you get the idea of how Bitcoin works on a phone.
On the other hand, Apple didn't explicitly design iOS to be a highly secure environment suitable to store digital money on. A couple months ago, a bug in Android's random number generator was discovered that compromised all key pairs which used it. Android wallets had to issue an update which moved all the bitcoin in each wallet to a new address, generated with the patched RNG. But for a day or two, most Android wallets were vulnerable.
Bitcoin Average does a volume-weighted price average across major exchanges.

Open it fullscreen, lower the size and increase the "max" variable to render more numbers. If you've got a Retina display, the size goes down to 0.5 to take advantage of that. You'll see the long diagonal lines mentioned in the article.
“This new website – launched barely a month after Federal agents shut down the original Silk Road -- underscores the inescapable reality that technology is dynamic and ever-evolving and that government policy needs to adapt accordingly. Rather than play ‘whack-a-mole’ with the latest website, currency, or other method criminals are using in an effort to evade the law, we need to develop thoughtful, nimble and sensible federal policies that protect the public without stifling innovation and economic growth. Our committee intends to have that conversation – among others - at our hearing this month on virtual currency.”

$500 million is 0.05% of $1 trillion.
It's not clear on load what colors represent. There are no labels whatsoever. The colors make more sense on the "Country Breakout", but you lose the context again if you go to the "Industry Breakout". The last breakout also seems somewhat arbitrary. According to this, Google is part of "Internet Search". Don't they make hardware and software as well? Is IBM still a hardware company? The lines are fuzzy, but this categorical view draws a sharp divide between different sectors.
The graphic this is based on, Four Ways to Slice Obama's Budget Proposal, contains much more information and labels it well.

Notice that circle area encodes proposed spending, which is a good measure of size/importance. The coloring is also a quantitative metric with an associated scale. When you go to the "Department Totals" view, you can see how the size/coloring reveals insights about proposed Defense spending (heavy cuts).
So instead of losing your home, you may never get it in the first place.
The consequences of defaulting on a student loan are also quite severe.
A few high-quality pictures of the PC in good light would help too. The video features the monitor more than the PC itself.
