Edit: to clarify even more, even the truck driver knows thst he's got a probability to die during his work, which seems to be higher than most other jobs. Most drivers know this.
I'm sure right now they have a huge database with lots of scanned images, and an app like this helps to make sense of it. If I'd have a big zip file containing all those books, it would be difficult to browse through them. They said they're planning to add support for other devices, so you may still get what you want one day.
Just today Sebastian Marshall sent his weekly newsletter[1] about targeted procrastination. Here's how it could be adapted for reading some of these books:
- Write down two or three topics that you're interested in.
- Do a search for books that match those subjects, and write them down.
- When you feel like taking a break, pick one book from the list, and start reading.
I like this approach because I easily get tired from reading a book for a long time, but it's easy to do it in 10-15 minute chunks.
I'm not the type that reads lots of books anymore, but I prefer that over lurking on Facebook or Twitter.
- barefoot is better, especially with a low tech mat to make a soft surface. I never wear shoes while working and I don't regret it.
- the first few days are a bit tough, you may experience some back pain. Nothing too hard, but depending on your body that could last up to one week from what I've heard. After that, I'd never go back to sitting all day. It just doesn't reasonate with me anymore.
- the desk that you intend to use will make a hugr difference. I got mine at Ikea after seeing a recommendation here on hacker news. It's basically a desk with three adjustable panels, put the bigger in the middle http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/60111123
- it's important that you experiment with a few heits if you're unsure. A couple of inches can make a big difference. Make sure that you eyes are watching slightly below to avoid neck pain.
If you work from home, you'll love it. You can literally think while walking around your room, there's no resistance rom a chair. You'll take more breaks and feel better overall. And if that doesn't work for you, you can always go back to a regular chair.
