orphereus··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Are most comments on HN now just astroturfed $LLM_COMPANY promotions?
orphereus··on Coding Is Not Solved
What a nice article. If I ever get in a situation where my manager demands I have to go all-in on AI (run 10 parallel agents and lose my sanity while trying to follow what is going on), I'll ask them to read this article first.

Additionally, isn't it ironic that the only comment on Substack is: > "Sometimes in the process of writing a good enough prompt for ChatGPT, I end up solving my own problem, without even needing to submit it". AI as a rubber ducky, I think this is good AI use!

orphereus··on We're gonna need a lot more mathematicians
Yet it takes rigorous years long tests to understand effects of a medication.
orphereus··on Goodbye Google
Wow. You should touch grass if you have this opinion.
orphereus··on Virtio-nvgpu: Near-native Nvidia GPU access inside a KVM guest
So you can share the GPU between multiple VMs? I can have 4 VMs simultaneously do work on the GPU?

And each one would have its own Nvidia driver? How do they not interfere with each other? I mean I am by no means an expert in GPU architecture or anything similar, but I thought the problems with sharing a GPU come from the differences between GPU vs CPU architecture. On the other hand, multiple processes on a host can run on the same GPU, but that is all using the same kernel. I am just very confused.

orphereus··on Virtio-nvgpu: Near-native Nvidia GPU access inside a KVM guest
I am very sceptical about this. I have some experience in GPU virtualization and passthrough with Nvidia GPUs and they are really not designed to be able to share them with multiple guests/host without Nvidia's blessing (licenced drivers).
orphereus··on Virtio-nvgpu: Near-native Nvidia GPU access inside a KVM guest
I am wondering how they managed to achieve that without using Nvidia vGPU drivers.
orphereus··on Virtio-nvgpu: Near-native Nvidia GPU access inside a KVM guest
Is it really that simple to split an Nvidia GPU between multiple users like that? I thought that you have to have specific drivers which support that.
orphereus··on Virtio-nvgpu: Near-native Nvidia GPU access inside a KVM guest
Why not use normal GPU passthrough? I don't see how you can use this to share a GPU between multiple VMs, so what is the benefit of using this software over normal GPU passthrough with vfio-pci drivers?
orphereus··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
Yes, I think you formulated what I think in a much better way. I quit by going cold turkey one day, but it was not out of nowhere, it took me a while to reach that mental point where I wanted to really quit.

The best part of it is that it is not that hard to stop smoking.

orphereus··on People hooked on vapes try a new way to quit: cigarettes
You have to actually WANT to quit to actually quit smoking, and I don't mean on a superficial level.

You might think, oh I should really quit smoking because it is bad for my health. But if you don't make a decision and change your core mentality that you really want to stop smoking, you'll just go back to it at some point, no matter what "trick" you use.

orphereus··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
What do you mean by empire building?
orphereus··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
If most software development is for clueless executives, and therefore subpar and useless in the grand scheme of things, why do we still need clueless executives. How much resources would be better allocated in the whole humanity if it was not for the clueless executives spending resources on garbage.
orphereus··on OpenAI GPT–6 Astra breaks Enigma message that has resisted solution since 2005
Too bad Bletchley Park didn't have one back in the day.
orphereus··on GPT-5.6 Luna vs. GPT-6 Astra: Is a $1.20 Model Good Enough for Code Review?
Are people getting burned out?
orphereus··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
How does that translate to cost? I am unfamiliar with OpenAI pricing models.
orphereus··on Astra for Coding: Why Are We Doing This Again?
So does using an LLM.
orphereus··on Mistral raises €3B
It couldn't tell ASML to do that because ASML doesn't do chip design.
orphereus··on GPT-6 Astra on robot arms
I don't want to make this sound rude. I'm curious what job protections are there in various Asian countries?
orphereus··on Private German rocket makes history, reaches orbit from European soil
I think the opposite because in this specific case we have the US which has the world's strongest navy, and the strongest navy by far in the Atlantic.

My opinion is that there is an implied reliance on the US "allowing" Europe to ship the rockets to Kourou and launch them there.

If our relations ever completely sour, the US might, for example, take over the shipping vessels going to Kourou, kinda like Europe takes over Russian shadow fleet vessels.

Now all of a sudden Europe has no means of launching rockets, except now it can launch to polar orbits. It might seem a stretch, but there is a non-zero chance that could happen, therefore it is better to have an alternative.

Doesn't it matter if this part of France is an ocean away?
orphereus··on OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra
And the headline will be "Welcome to the AGI era".
orphereus··on OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra
Because it is in their own interest to hype it all up every time they release a new model. By they I mean people which stand to gain financially.
orphereus··on I wanna live an NPC life
Don't be patronising. I am pretty sure he has read the article because I agree with him, and I have read the article as well.

Surprised pikachu :OOOO

orphereus··on Terence Tao explains 6 essential mathematical concepts [video]
To be fair, I didn't watch the video to the part where he mentions monkeys writing Hamlet, but I thought the point of the monkeys is that they will stumble upon a Hamlet by accident at some point in time, by randomly pressing buttons on a keyboard. Obviously, it would take a long time, but it would happen at some point.
orphereus··on Highlighting My Code Based on How Much I Care
I get the theme of the site is inspired by retro games, but the font makes it so hard to read the article, I had to give up. Too bad, since I like the concept of a retro game theme.
orphereus··on Automating Immersive Reading
What is the purpose of this outside people with disabilities? Why do you need word highlighting, it's like those TikToks and IG reels where they show one word at a time to keep you hooked.

Surely, if you need this to read a book (again, besides any disabilities), you should stop your current habits.

orphereus··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
Well, Kosovo and Montenegro haven't joined the Eurozone. They just use the Euro, but they have no influence in the monetary (?) policy.

Edit: I'm not the first one to point this out, so to add some new information: both of them used Deutsche Mark prior to Euro, Montenegro even under the union with Serbia.

orphereus··on Hunting Down a Go Runtime Bug on 32-Bit Embedded Systems
Very cool site. Makes me want to do some system programming project just to make a site with all the tests like this.
orphereus··on Nitter project received cease and desist
Which servers are these fun ones? I would like to explore a bit.
