E-bikes. Not super hilly but I think it’d be tiring with an acoustic bike for a business.

That’s what the beeps are for!

You’d be surprised. A family member bought a 2025 utilitarian car (Dacia). It’s the one on the newer platform (Clio 6) so they can implement all the beeping mandated by law.

The car beeps exactly the same way whatever the reason so you can’t tell why. It even beeps when it thinks the speed limit has changed (up or down)… it’s infuriating to drive this car, there is a beep about something every minute or two. You can’t even tell what it’s beeping about.

Luckily there is a shortcut button near the dash that you can press to disable all these idiotic beeps. You have to do it every time you restart the car. It does make it feel like all these beeps are pointless since you can’t tell what they’re about and press the button to disable them all as soon as you start the car anyway…

I don’t think you’ve ever lived under SU rules.

I own a car and a bike. I wouldn’t mind if cars were banned or very heavily restricted in the city.

I have a trailer for the bike, we can haul 100 lbs. it’s more than enough.

Businesses can be allowed to get deliveries, just personal cars are restricted.

In my city, many businesses have switched to operating from a cargo bike: plumbers, electricians, even mechanics.

Well we still use Roman months and weekdays, and carry over the 30/31 days months even though we could’ve had a way better system by now (base 10 and equal divisions)
ornornor··on Hackers shoveled snow for company, were rewarded with network admin access
Happened to me a few times. And then your password never works and you can’t understand why.
ornornor··on Hackers shoveled snow for company, were rewarded with network admin access
To me it signals bad engineering in the underlying system which doesn’t exactly encourage trusting the system with my data.

I worked some (terrible) place that did that and wouldn’t allow you to use your last 3 passwords. So what we were doing is that when it was time to rotate password, we would change our password 3 times in a row and on the fourth time we would just use the same password as before. This way our password never changed (the requirements for passwords were ridiculous) and the box could be checked in the audit.

Also the same company: we ran a version of our artifact repository that had a 10.0 CVE for almost a year. It was too much work to update it, couldn’t spare the resources.

The point of a wide monitor for me is to have two 720 wide windows side by side, not a single gigantic 1440 window with impossibly long lines.
ornornor··on Africans Are Turning to Starlink
Rightly so, subscribing to starlink is giving money to Heilon Musk, one of the worst people alive (he’s in very good company though there are many like him)

Good that Americans have a right to bear arms exactly to prevent this kind of totalitarian overtake of the country.

From the outside, it looks like what the stasi was doing, in the oh so vile communist regime (it was also a totalitarian one, and not a regime I’d want to live under). And now the US is doing it to itself.

Wait until elections time. Trump has hinted several times publicly that there won’t be a next election or any need to replace him. We assumed it was just more verbal diarrhea like he has a knack for. But in this context and in light of his modus operandi, who knows…

ornornor··on Instagram is incorporating users' photos in ads for Meta Glasses
Company owned by a sociopath and which has proven time and time and time again that they have no regard for your privacy does it again. It’s good to keep talking about it so that there is still some friction attached to pulling this off for Meta, but if you’re surprised at this I don’t know what to tell you.

ornornor··on Librepods: AirPods liberated
I would not recommend wireless Sony earphones or headphones. I’ve owned three different models and in all of them the batteries failed after a few years. Check out the reviews there is an abnormal amount of failures. My conclusion is that while Sony is great at many things, they can’t do wireless headphones or earphones well and I steer clear.

I kinda assumed apple had a magic sauce way to have higher sound quality on the iPhone rather than using the BT spec HFP, isn’t that the case?
ornornor··on Feds Killed Polestar and Spared Volvo
Terrify me? Really? There are other, genuinely terrifying things happening right now: climate change, human rights violations, animal rights, the spread of totalitarianism… that’s terrifying.
ornornor··on Extreme Heat conference cancelled due to extreme heat warning
I had 40 Celsius today at around 9pm. Middle of the night now and it’s 34. It’s as cool as it’s going to get before it starts heating up again tomorrow. Where I live there are no laws on max temperature in residential housing so the owner (I’m renting) doesn’t have to do anything about it. Never mind the poorly insulated, black slate roof (I’m on the last floor) or lack of AC (I’d have to foot the bill anyway).
ornornor··on Never Give Them Your Face
> Meta has become so awful.

It’s been a while already, and they started from pretty unethical so it’s not like it was ever great.

> Meta enhanced support

I’m sorry am I reading this right? You now have to pay for the privilege of getting support so you can participate in Zuck’s infostealer so that he can then sell your data and make money off it? I think I’m getting too old for tech.

They also have countless records proving hundreds of thousands of women were witches, with ironclad proofs such as “if we stab them they scream so they must be witches, off to the pire” or “throw them bound in the water, if they float it means they’re evil because water (baptism) rejects them so they’re witches -> burn.”

> FB search results are inferior

That’s quite the understatement. FB marketplace search results are pretty close to useless. Search for something, it will show you maybe a couple of that something and then ads that look like listings, and things that are supposedly related (they aren’t), hours away from your search area. No way to filter or anything. I go out of my way to not use FB marketplace, that’s how bad it is to me.
