You're in luck! There is a SAT solver for finding the optimal belt balancer for any size (Though it might take a few months/years to compute)

No, I don’t think I will

orangepanda··on CSS @property and the new style
Dont fret, there will be a 192 character long tailwind classname specifically for this.
orangepanda··on Pipe Syntax in SQL
I expected to see some eldritch css monstrosity, but no, its just a pdf. A well formatted one, at that.

What’s your issue there?

orangepanda··on Verso – Web browser built on top of the Servo web engine
Any code is legacy code once pushed upstream
orangepanda··on Don’t try to sanitize input, escape output (2020)
If you dont know where it will be rendered, how do you know what to sanitize for?
orangepanda··on Show HN: Tailwind Template Directory
I strongly disagree on the maintainability. Mistakes are easy to make and have been made when comparing a list of 20 class names across a dozen elements. Its only "maintainable" if you ignore the class list when reading. I review my local evangelists' tailwind code and from their mistakes its clear they're not reading the class list.

It reminds me of how some people claim they're great at multitasking and can text & drive with no issues - meanwhile not even being aware of what they're missing.

Tailwind has its uses, but it should not be the default choice.

orangepanda··on New JavaScript Set Methods
> It's also typically faster to check if an element is in a set as opposed to in an Array

What optimisations allow that? As sets in javascript maintain insertion order, aren’t lookups O(n) ?

orangepanda··on React 19 Breaks Async Composability
Nothing functional breaks because of this. Waterfall requests, which already had bad ux, have worse ux now.
orangepanda··on Windows Recall sounds like a privacy nightmare

orangepanda··on New iOS 17.5 Beta Lets EU iPhone Users Download Apps Directly from Websites
Do website-downloaded apps bypass apple distribution entirely? This hints not:

> Apps downloaded through the web using the API can be backed up, restored, and updated as standard apps can.

orangepanda··on A Mistake in a Tesla and a Panicked Final Call: The Death of Angela Chao
As someone who's never been inside a tesla - I would not be surprised if Reverse is a touchscreen control. Probably next to a windshield wipers icon.
orangepanda··on Scheduling Internals
My priorities are named: Immediate, Very immediate, Extremely immediate. This way clients dont know they're asking for a low (immediate) priority.
orangepanda··on Updating Gov.uk’s crown
When/if an emperor reigns for over 100 years, would they shorten the format as-per-iso shorthand rules? That is, would the year Reiwa 106 also be written as 6/12/20 ?
orangepanda··on Tailwind CSS marketing and misinformation engine
Tailwind is write only, you’re not supposed to read it or maintain in. Want to change some property? Delete the entire class=“” attribute and start anew. Take that primary button example from the article - no one is claiming that it’s readable, especially when there are hundreds of primary buttons throughout the app, each with a slight variation.

This works great for marketing or landing pages, or other use cases where it’s not you who maintains it after deployment; the next sucker will want to rewrite it all anyway.

orangepanda··on OOHtml – Object-Oriented HTML Implementation
Have you looked at ECMAScript for XML (E4X) ?
orangepanda··on Apple fixes zero-day bug in Apple Vision Pro that 'may have been exploited'
Sure it helps but does it _have_ to be on a separate chip? In ye olden days when everything else had crashed and was frozen, skype calls still kept working
orangepanda··on Juno – A YouTube Client for Vision Pro
But does it block the ads that are still shown with youtube premium?
orangepanda··on Spatial Computing
Kids in 2034 will flick at an old-timey light switch from half a room away, and be confused why it doesnt work
orangepanda··on In loving memory of square checkbox
I dislike toggles as the on/off state is not always obvious. Some fun examples I've encountered:

* red is "on" and by default already selected, black is "off";

* black is "on";

* saw one cookie consent form with red meaning "on", and green meaning "off".

orangepanda··on How fast can you validate UTF-8 strings in JavaScript?
Wouldn’t "visually identical” tokens still be valid utf8?
orangepanda··on Ask HN: What's the coolest non standard application of LLMs you've seen?
I'd trust an LLM more than my own interpretation.
