oogetyboogety··on UI is hell: four-function calculators
those fuckers. If windows wants to add this as a success where Mac has failed, it still works in their calculator app.
oogetyboogety··on GitHub cuts AI deals with Google, Anthropic
This might be the measurable "some" non deceptive time saving, whereas most of it is still deceptive in terms of time saved
oogetyboogety··on Funtoo Linux is shutting down
End of an era. I remember installing funtoo before I went through the handbook to install Gentoo itself
oogetyboogety··on Psychedelic Mushrooms Hit the Market in Oregon
I have noticed ssri withdrawal causes suicidal ideation but not enough to go through with it. It's like it causes the thoughts but not the action from thoughts.
oogetyboogety··on Apple introduces Apple Pay Later
Payday loans are in the same category but in terms of predatory financial options i feel as though they are a million times worse. I even question how apps like Dave work on this type of model.

oogetyboogety··on Google is shutting down Stadia
That's funny. Yes, for me this bizarre PR campaign shows up as promoted content when I scroll through my Google news feed.
oogetyboogety··on Increase: Banking API
Correct. It is called layering when money launderers buy other liquid investment instruments using the illegally placed funds.
oogetyboogety··on Increase: Banking API
Yes. It starts with sanctions on countries. Banks are only just starting to correlate payments that may actually be the same party if they are different physical institutions/entities, down to the legal entity (LEI).
oogetyboogety··on Increase: Banking API
I think the IRL version of this is buying cocaine, rubbing it over all yor cash, and then using it as your cash without actually using the cocaine. It'll def just be ignored, as it's on a high percentage of notes[1] for any transaction anyways [2]. Banks use ml scoring algorithms and im not sure mentioning cocaine in notes for a RTP/The Clearing House transaction would actually go unnoticed.

oogetyboogety··on Increase: Banking API
Yes, for example real time NACHA payment event streams are actually windowed by periods governed by each transaction's exposure to risk and corresponding risk classification windows.
oogetyboogety··on Increase: Banking API
This. They're just "virtual accounts" under a single partner to the bank. If the service groups your payments with some other parties, in some weird mining strategy, then you might have risk. But if your parties grouped together on transactions appear to be cartel money launderers, you can definitely expect some calls from the bank. And the FBI. And your transactions related to that party in any way not to go through. It's a big part of compliance. Neobanks typically take their licenses from very well established banks who trust them and their partners to not expose tons of risk. It's a burgeoning market. They face competitive and regulatory pressures forcing them to strategize on this very well.
oogetyboogety··on Increase: Banking API
Theres quite a few examples, it's a space where banks are trying to hold ground against fintechs, or they'll be forced to partner with them

One example i can think of right off the top of my head: INTEGRATIONS Integrate Increase APIs Modern Treasury’s powerful REST API is the easiest way to integrate your Increase bank accounts with your application for payments, reconciliation and reporting. https://www.moderntreasury.com/integrations

And

"Improve Cash Flow

Managing cash flow requires looking at receivables and payables, accessing liquidity and making accurate forecasts. Cash management APIs improve every facet of the treasury operations." https://www.chase.ca/en/support/insights/six-ways-payment-ap....

Hmm my dog acts like a cat or i suck since i definitely cant tell between "No, I don't understand you." and "I understand you perfectly well, but I plan to ignore you completely until I feel like responding".

More durable being the key point here. Anecdotally I remember reading horror stories once ppl upgrade about the cooling.
oogetyboogety··on Cassowary – Run Windows Apps on Linux using a VM as if they were native apps
Only some of my games tend to work on Proton. Anti cheat software is really getting in the way most of the time.
oogetyboogety··on Cassowary – Run Windows Apps on Linux using a VM as if they were native apps
There is more after that as well in the linked thread. `It can auto suspend vm automatically when no apps are used. ( i have it set to 30 s ). My college uses a windows only application for tests and assignments. If i was using winapps i would have to install libre office in windows vm just to be able to quickly open document sent to me. With cassowary i can just double click file in guest and it will use linux native libre office to open the document. ( Saves storage space ) Winapps only works with VM cannot connect to Bare metal windows`

Instead of constantly rebooting my dual boot system this seems like an interesting approach for me to try. I need to play games in Windows without having to reboot from Linux.

oogetyboogety··on Cassowary – Run Windows Apps on Linux using a VM as if they were native apps
It is a little bit broken, but I think it gets the point across.
oogetyboogety··on Foobar2000
I spent many teenage years looking for a GTK Foobar2000 replacement for my Compiz/Gnome desktop. Finally settled on http://gmusicbrowser.org/ For large music libraries, UX on Gmusicbrowser was awesome. Wish newer GTK music players would take cues or I could find something similar.
oogetyboogety··on You Win, Broken Database Schemas
"As with many falsehoods that programmers believe, names have surprising complexity. Although Americans often assume users will have a single “first” and “last” name separated by a space character, this is by no means true around the world. Some last names (“van Hardenberg”) include spaces, as do some first names (“Sher Minn”). Some people have a single name (“Madonna”). In Japan, family names are written first, then given names. For an in-depth treatment of how to correctly handle names, we recommend this enjoyably written W3C guide, but our brief recommendation is that you ask your users how they like to be addressed, and what to call them in a formal context." https://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-personal-names https://www.inkandswitch.com/cambria/

oogetyboogety··on We handle 80TB and 5M page views a month for under $400
Wasn't that like IBM's business motto at some point? No one ever got fired for going with IBM. Then IBM definitely lost a lot of business to cloud modernization. Maybe the next logical step is the cheaper CloudFlare, which another comment mentioned is actually pretty profitable and then I'm sure the next cheaper incumbent will come in with just slightly less trust and reliability.
oogetyboogety··on Is there life after death? John Cleese discusses with panel of scientists
A motherboard or SOC's design has a lot to do with the peripherals it's intended to connect with. Interrupts directly influence control logic, for example.
oogetyboogety··on Is there life after death? John Cleese discusses with panel of scientists
This.

The assumption that we know how atoms work in the brain is absurdly reductionist. I would ask a physicist well versed in information theory to validate the holographic principle's validity. Once they make this breakthrough in physics, then I would use that result to begin to put faith into Sean Carroll's assumption.

"Afterlife" isn't even well defined in this argument. What decisions and experiences are the ones that define you as a conscious individual in the physical sense? Based on your answer to this, I could recreate an "afterlife" decision matrix for you matching your personality to varying degrees by reprogramming the relevant constructs that exist in your brain.

For a physicist, this is not a scientific argument at all. It all sounds very philosophical.

Thoroughly enjoyed these. There is the tv version (not podcast) with nice video alongside each of the current podcasts. Sometimes they release a podcast and it takes a month or two for the tv one to come out.
