onion-soup··on Five Kinds of Nondeterminism
randomness is an illusion
onion-soup··on SQL powered operating system instrumentation, monitoring, and analytics
I thought NoSQL was supposed to take over? Noooooooo :( why learn complex queries when I can spawn unstructured and unrelated json blobs? It's easier! Or so I was told?
onion-soup··on Versioned finite-state machines with Postgres (2019)
not sure what you are onto but SQL is just old and useless, glad i never had to learn it
onion-soup··on Moving from relational data to events
IT is doomed
onion-soup··on Google Maps has become an eyesore
Google maps destroys session after I open it again on iOS. This is clusterfuck of UX
onion-soup··on Water
Woah! Almost like 15 years ago!
onion-soup··on I'm betting on HTML
Rumble about nothing
onion-soup··on Meta’s Microservice Architecture [pdf]
You can safely continue your professionnal jjourney elsewhere but not in IT. Thank you!
onion-soup··on Meta’s Microservice Architecture [pdf]
We all appreciate your contribution to micro services. But let us now choose simplicity and move on with our lives. You do you with your zoo of dockerized babel towers
onion-soup··on Meta’s Microservice Architecture [pdf]
Holy shit. No wonder it failed miserably.
onion-soup··on Easy HTTPS for your private networks
>"Eeasy HTTPS"

>Displays somewhat overcomplicated diagram with bunch of arrows and scary technobubble words.

Ping me again when HTTPs actually becomes easy

onion-soup··on Where did software go wrong? (2020)
Micro Services
onion-soup··on Blockchains by number of nodes/validators
Nodes mine blocks. Therefore there all those nodes people call nodes are not nodes.
onion-soup··on The Google home page is 500K
500K what?
onion-soup··on Coin Carbon Cap – PoW cryptocurrencies ranked by energy efficiency
No, txs are cheap because blocks are big enough to allow high throuoghput. BTC has 1 MB block so txs compete to get into next bloock.
onion-soup··on Coin Carbon Cap – PoW cryptocurrencies ranked by energy efficiency
Why is this getting downvoted?
onion-soup··on Coin Carbon Cap – PoW cryptocurrencies ranked by energy efficiency
No, Because SV does not limit block size which allows tremendous throughput. Google block size war.

>re-used bitcoins early work

All forks share the same blockchain up until certain block.

onion-soup··on Coin Carbon Cap – PoW cryptocurrencies ranked by energy efficiency
Glad to see BSV finally getting noticed by HN
onion-soup··on The complexity that lives in the GUI
Don't libraries like react solve this?
onion-soup··on Write Code Like You Write a Recipe
TL;DR: Today I reinvented the term "procedural programming" and gave it a nice culinary spin.
onion-soup··on UI design for software developers. Part 1, Colors
Article has unreadable pale grey font.
onion-soup··on Web based Windows XP desktop recreation, built with React
XP was such an aesthetically pleasing OS.
onion-soup··on OAuth 3
More like you are bending your own argument. grayoons, YO is more pronounceable than OA
onion-soup··on Show HN: SmartGuitarAmp – Guitar plugin made with deep learning
The tone similarity is quite impressive.
onion-soup··on We need physical audio kill switches
I always wondered if these physical switches are actually reliable and now reading your comment actually terrifies me. This behavior can cause irreversible social damage in say during high steak business meetings. One could absolutely sue the microphone manufacturer for this.
onion-soup··on We need physical audio kill switches
Nothing will ever come close to convenience of analogue volume knobs. They give both immediate action and infinite granular control. Same goes for kitchen stoves. All the modern touch controls with step-based control is the absolute nightmare in terms of UI.
onion-soup··on On Browser Tabs
Chrome exists over a decade yet they still haven't figured out how ctrl+Tab should work.
onion-soup··on PDF: Still unfit for human consumption, 20 years later
At least PDF doesn't bombard me with click walls and cookie disclamers so that I can actually read and scroll.
onion-soup··on Show HN: Screenshot.rocks – Create browser mockups from screenshots
So an entire tool to add “slick” macos browser top bar? Umm, thanks I guess... lol
onion-soup··on How many people did it take to build the Great Pyramid?
Now divide total number of blocks by 30 years and you get 1 multi ton block being laid every 9 minutes.

The current theories are joke, this numbers don’t add up. Don’t be afraid to challenge the “academic” theories, as you see, there is no math behind them.
