omwow··on Did you lose your AirPods?
My AidPods Pro became unusable after ~2 years. NC had some overcorrection issue I guess, created this loud crackling sound when it tried to cancel out a noise.
omwow··on Show HN: I’ve made a cheaper SEO research tool
How does the keyword data in telescope compare to the data in Ahrefs? (monthly global volume, keyword difficulty, etc)?
omwow··on Canadians have a ‘right to be forgotten’ on Google, Federal Court rules

omwow··on Robbie Robertson has died
They interviewed Robbie on the Broken Record podcast a while back where he told his story. Great listen if you're interested: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rewind-robbie-robertso...
omwow··on The SaaS Playbook
Rob Walling is solid and has a great reputation among SaaS founders, particularly those who choose to self-fund their companies rather than go the VC route.

He's been running a great event for bootstrapped founders called MicroConf. It's legit.

If you look at the endorsements for the book (Peldi, Derek Sivers, Patrick Campbell, Courtland Allen...) you'll see that they're as real as it gets.

Jason Cohen wrote the foreword for the book. (He founded WPEngine, one of the largest Wordpress hosting companies, with more than 1,000 employees, and before that SmartBear which got acquired for around $2 billion.)

If you're curious, you can also check out Startups For The Rest of Us, where he's been releasing new episodes for more than 10 years. I think that's one of the best ways to get a feel for whether he's someone you'd want to learn from.

omwow··on A Tech Pioneer’s Final, Unexpected Act (2018)
This tells the story of Eric Sun, who (among other things) built Facebook's knowledge graph. He got diagnosed with a brain tumor, quit tech, and decided to pursue his life-long dream of playing the violin.
omwow··on Replace the “very” in your sentence
I think there's a lot you can criticize about this site. The suggestions are often questionable, and there's quite a few very common adjectives for which there are no suggestions at all ("delicious" for example yields "not yet added"). That said, the value of this site imho is it's simplicity, and that it focuses you to think about your use of the word "very", and how you can express ideas better.
omwow··on AI-driven thermal cameras used to obtain passwords
That's what I do.
omwow··on Why you can’t tickle yourself
I’ve always wondered about this! That being said, the answer provided still seems somewhat of a “here’s our best guess”—of course this can be said about most answers, but this just seems particularly far on the “just a good guess” side of the spectrum, rather than a more substantiated theory.
omwow··on Ask HN: How to Stop Caring (Professionally)?
Also consider looking into Zone 2 training. Here's what I do: 1h of low-level cardio a day. Just to the point where I can have a conversation with someone, where I can still breathe through the nose. Surprisingly, at the end of this, I'm still soaked in sweat, but I don't actually feel exhausted or as if I'm pushing myself very hard during the exercise. At the end of the day though I sleep like a rock. I typically listen to some audiobook or podcast, which gives me something to look forward to and makes the time pass more enjoyable. I heard about it on the Tim Ferriss podcast (the episode with Rich Roll—what a silly name, but the guy is cool), and then looked the subject up. Peter Attia covers it super in-depth, but I found this the most useful read for anyone who just wants to give this a try: https://www.artofmanliness.com/health-fitness/fitness/zone-2...
omwow··on How writing has spread across the world
I'm having the exact same experience, also with Thai funny enough, and the best way to describe it to me is like this: It feels like when I was a small kid learning to read for the first time. You see a bus driving by, and you now recognize a few letters, and then you mentally try to "compress" the letters into a word and suddenly: Woop! This bus is headed for Minburi! There's a little jolt of joy in that moment of recognition. Curious, why are you learning Thai?
omwow··on Danny Yee’s Book Reviews
Question for all those who find his reviews valuable: What is it about them that you so value? I've gone through a few, and they're rather short and nondescript. I can get a much better sense of whether a book is of interest to me from an Amazon page.
omwow··on Show HN: Stock Photos Using Stable Diffusion
Would love the option to not just have square images, but other formats as well (especially 16:9)
omwow··on Character.ai
This is wild. I didn't know Elon Musk knew that much about the best way to prepare eggs!
omwow··on Musico: AI Generated Music
Seems they're trying to corner the market for more annoying elevator music.
omwow··on The ‘Epic of Gilgamesh’ is not the oldest surviving work of literature
Cheers!
omwow··on How history/tech YouTube channel Asianometry reached 270K subscribers, $5K/month
Love a behind-the-scenes peak of a creator like this one, it's fascinating to see. But yeah, $5k / month for the amount of work and talent that went into this seems disproportionate, but then I could also see this growing exponentially, where if he keeps at it, it will make ridiculous amounts of money that's just as, if not more disproportionate to effort invested, except this time in his favor. Which is what I wish for him.
omwow··on Autobiographical Notes by Jorge Luis Borges (1970)
https://archive.ph/JBAGa Heads up: This is a very long read (~1h).
omwow··on Show HN: I made a site that easily lets you generate AI images using templates
This is fantastic, thank you!
omwow··on Why do all these 20-somethings have closed captions turned on?
I think this is the article you mentioned: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/sep/03/tenet-dialogue-...
omwow··on “The Suck” (Learning Anything by Writing It Out by Hand)
I've had the exact same thought. This is anecdotal, but I found that writing stuff out by hand indeed helps me tremendously to absorb the material, mainly by creating a more focused state of mind than I'm in otherwise. It's almost as if the hand is guiding the mind, and facilitating the right mental state. That said, I've been getting better at achieving that level of focus without writing things down by hand, and find that actually verbally recapping what I wrote to myself helps me internalize what I read even better, although it's more hit and miss—when my monkey mind acts up, I go back to writing things out by hand. I'd be very curious to see someone doing a more rigorous experiment across a larger group of people and see what conclusion they arrive at.
omwow··on I wish I was a little bit taller
I'm trying to be less judgmental, but John Lovedale is pushing me to the limit.

omwow··on San Francisco decriminalizes psychedelics
Amen to that. Also, hope that this will pave the way for wider therapeutic use not just in SF, but across the US and other countries.
omwow··on The Advice Gap
So true. That said, I still think there's value in advice, mainly because it can sometimes help the receiver of the advice view things from a different perspective, look at their situation through a different lens that they might not have done before. That being said, it depends on a) the giver of the advice being able to actually figure out what a beneficial perspective would be, b) the receiver of the advice being open to actually hear it (I for one surely have a tendency to hold on to my own way of thinking, even though I know it's to my own detriment, so I have to make a conscious effort to overcome that), or c) sheer luck. Sometimes you come across a piece of advice, pretty much by random luck, and it just is exactly what you needed to hear. (This too has happened to me.)
omwow··on AirPods Pro (2nd Generation)
Exactly the same issue here.
omwow··on Handwritten thank you notes increase sales
I totally believe this. I often get coffee delivered, and some baristas write a little "Thanks!" Or "Have a great day, Om!" or "Enjoy your coffee, Om!" on the paper bag, and it always makes me feel like 'Oh nice, they care!'.
