> CSS is effectively solved. Tailwind CSS is the best thing to ever happen to CSS. I cannot imagine ever writing CSS in a separate file and having to think of names for elements. It's also an excellent resource for beginners.

I work with developers still have difficulty with concepts like specificity and cascading even though they have been working with CSS for many years.

I don't think statements like this are true or encouraging.

Semantic memory isn't procedural memory or episodic memory.

Just listening to something is completely different than being able to do something with what you just listened to.

Learning involves more than just recalling things from memory.

Does Amazon follow their own multi-zone best practices?

To be fair, we only run services in us-east-1, and we had zero downtime from this issue. The only issue we encountered were API calls that were failing for us, and those were for CloudWatch and CodeDeploy. We are heavily reliant on EC2, OpenSearch, and S3.

omgitsabird··on Skimpflation: A reason inflation is worse than the government says it is
Yeah, I am concerned with the methodology more than the reporting.

> 11. How are CPI prices collected and reviewed? BLS data collectors visit (in person or on the web) or call thousands of retail stores, service establishments, rental units, and doctors' offices, all over the United States to obtain information on the prices of the thousands of items used to track and measure price changes in the CPI. We record the prices of about 80,000 items each month, representing a scientifically selected sample of the prices paid by consumers for goods and services purchased.[1]

> The CPI survey collects about 94,000 prices per month to compute indexes for commodities and services. Approximately two-thirds of price collection in the CPI is done by personal visits of CPI data collectors to brick-and-mortar stores. The remaining data are collected by telephone or on the outlet’s website. In some cases, these data are supplemented by data provided from other sources. The outlets where prices are collected are selected based on data from the CE survey. These outlets may be brick-and-mortar stores or websites (e-commerce); currently, about 8 percent of CPI quotes are collected from outlet websites.[2]

This seems easily biased and inefficient when considering theoretical alternatives.

You would think that there could be alternative geographical price indices created with help from companies that aggregate this data regularly (grocery apps, travel apps, etc).

omgitsabird··on Facebook Unceremoniously Kills Off 'Oculus' Brand
I agree.

Mainly, I think this is a push from a company who's idea pool has desiccated.

What is the end goal to have people in a headset talking to each other? That will happen irregardless of whatever platform it exists on, and unless FB is giving away unlocked headsets perpetually, I don't think people will pick their "Metaverse" over any other.

They might have an edge if they started as a peripherals company.

omgitsabird··on Facebook Renames to Meta
I think Facebook (Meta) is swinging at a target that doesn't exist here. This is pie in the sky futurism. Sure, it is easier to build than flying cars, but it is nearly as fanciful.

I doubt they will suffer from the venture. However, I believe that the name change will result in a long-lasting sting to remind them of their failures.

> Of course there is no source code, but we get to bear witness to the great development habits of this author: 105 changed files in his repo.

Are you implying they are a sub-par developer because they haven't committed changes to 105 touched files? That doesn't seem like a great metric to judge someone by.
