omani··on Tell HN: uBlock Origin Blocks YouTube
yes Ive done it and it worked.
omani··on Ask HN: Is GitHub Down?
oh wow. I just tested incognito and youtube works there. so I thought it must be some extension I have installed. turns out, ublock origin enabled blocks the whole youtube content (resulting in youtube skeleton page).

can anybody reproduce this?

omani··on Ask HN: Is GitHub Down?
yes. github returns 500 for me: "Looks like something went wrong!"

youtube seems down as well. only the skeleton loads, no content.

omani··on Veilid is an open-source, P2P, mobile-first, networked application framework
Why reinvent the wheel? We already have NKN [N]ew [K]ind of [N]etwork. (nkn.org)
omani··on Rekt.network
someone mentioned nightride.fm the other day (yesterday?) on another thread as a comment and now this pops up. sometimes I wonder if bots read HN and submit related stories/topics.
omani··on Distrobox: Use any Linux distribution inside your terminal
I use LXD. I can spawn any distro I want. I also use GUI apps this way (including video/audio eg firefox). I also use chezmoi for different HOME environments I want to have inside my LXD containers.
omani··on Show HN: Shhhbb, an SSH BBS
ah thanks.
omani··on Show HN: Shhhbb, an SSH BBS
your whole description (plus the website) is totally cryptic. unless one knows what BBS actually stands for. I spent several minutes looking for an explanation on your website and in your HN post. still dont know what it is.
omani··on We Ditched REST and Went with GraphQL: Here’s Why
I was excited to hear about tRPC until I realized that there seems to be the need for a monorepo. can't just keep the backend and let clients talk to me.
omani··on Bun v0.5.7
do you plan to provide an alpine package for bun?
omani··on Is it time to replace TCP in data centers?
understandable. and I agree. it was more like a test to see how the bots/npcs would react (with their downvotes).
omani··on Is it time to replace TCP in data centers?
I love it when I know I will be downvoted. that's why I posted this. you know who I am.
omani··on Is it time to replace TCP in data centers?
Betteridge's law of headlines.
omani··on Zrok: Open-source peer to peer
> (incentivized to do what??)

to route traffic. NKN is a CHORD overlay on top of the internet. clients connect to nodes and nodes route traffic from one node to another until the packet reaches its destination. clients stay anonymous (no IP leakage). end-to-end encrypted communication. "Proof-of-Relay" algorithm for mining. consensus via MOCA.

the only state of the art blockchain technology I know of. and they dont even pay me to say this.

omani··on Ask HN: Is anyone successfully self-hosting Firefox Sync?
I was thinking about doing this with my own custom setup. Im thinking of putting the folder .mozilla into a gocryptfs encrypted folder and use syncthing to sync it between devices.
omani··on Ask HN: Which OSS message-passing framework?
hmm...another option would be n8n (https://n8n.io/). comes as a docker container. there you can build your customized pipelines. check out the available integrations (https://n8n.io/integrations/). basically, what you want is a webhook, post your JSON to that webhook, and a second node that does the work with that JSON as an input.

very flexible and is set up in less than an hour.

omani··on Ask HN: Which OSS message-passing framework?
it is up to you and how you implement it. eg. a trigger notifies the backend that a new job is in the queue (push) or the backend can regularly check for new jobs (pull). once the backend finishes the job, the row in the queue table can be updated with a flag "DONE" or something like that.

you can use any language you want in the backend for notifications, or use even ZMQ (for example https://github.com/SpiderOak/skeeter) with a DEALER pattern to have more than one worker. or other implementations or postgres extensions (like pg_cron).

very flexible and is set up in less than an hour.

omani··on Ask HN: Which OSS message-passing framework?
you could use postgres with postgREST. push your JSONs via HTTP into a queue. a LISTEN/NOTIFY would trigger queue workers server-side.
omani··on Svelte Tailwind UI
nice UI. thanks. but I can TAB around the mainpage while the drawer is open. same behaviour like on daisyUI. any modal should disable navigating around in the background while open. also an option for closable by clicking or "disable click outside to close" would be nice.
omani··on Ask HN: Something you’ve done your whole life that you realized is wrong?
ignoring god.
omani··on Prisma laying off 28% staff
If you dont know what ORM means then you are probably not their target group anyway.
omani··on Show HN: Ov – feature rich terminal pager
hey OP, nice tool. can we use $HOME/config/ for the config file? keeps the home clean.
omani··on Show HN: Ov – feature rich terminal pager
this is useless bias. Get rid of it.
omani··on Poll: What's the best laptop for Linux these days?
IdeaPad 3 (AMD Ryzen 5 5500U) on Alpine Linux 3.17 here.
omani··on Clipboard: Cut, copy, and paste anything, anywhere, all from the terminal
a similar tool is https://github.com/brunelli/wl-clipboard-x11 and xclip (for Xorg).
omani··on ChatGPT is a ‘code red’ for Google’s search business
if something is for free, you are the product. openai is not open. it is a shady business that requires you to give your phone number. they sell your data. they can tell who writes what to ChatGPT.
omani··on Ask HN: Most employable programming languages for next decade or two?
golang
omani··on Linux 5.8 Formally Adds the Inclusive Terminology Guidelines
welcome orwell's newspeak.
omani··on Foreign data wrappers: PostgreSQL's secret weapon?
you just took a feature of postgresql and mentioned it in your article to sell your product.

you didnt answer your own question. is it a secret weapon?

omani··on Rich Tables in the Terminal
Im using https://github.com/olekukonko/tablewriter in Go.
