On a personal level I also dislike the idea of being home in the evening and myself or my spouse decide to watch something and put on some goggles and completely shut off to the outside world and the other person. Or going in the living room and seeing 3 kids with goggles locked away in different worlds. If we actually did start using VR as the main way to consume media I think it would do us a lot more harm than good. Just my opinion.
Basically, it's all there. Chess is born anew for the 21st century.
Not to mention the data collection.
Now, I am also a believer in your first point. The cure _must not_ be worse than the poison. And I don't know what the right solution is. But we need one because we are not equipped to deal with this. Just a couple days ago a single individual bought one of the biggest speech platforms in the world and proceeded to post a defamatory conspiracy theory from a "fake news" outlet about a political target. The way the world is set up right now I think things can really go sideways. And while I am sure most people here prides themselves on their ability to discern the truth, remember that the electorate is not comprised of hacker news users. Thanks

But in general I agree with you, the embeds can be easily abused and distort the popularity of streamers on twitch, giving some an unfair advantage. In an industry where success depends heavily on the number of eyeballs on your content and where twitch itself prioritizes larger streams it is unacceptable in my opinion. Long term it directly undermines the natural growth of developing streams, the process that has given us a rich and dynamic twitch community in the first place. The topic deserves an article if it hasn't been written about already.
EDIT: I want to add that the above is constantly aggravated by opportunistic politicians and toxic media (both traditional and social media)
The question is: can a distributed system match the value Amazon's service provides to the consumer?
