olegk··on [60fps] Framerates do matter
Not true. HDMI 1.4 has enough bandwidth to do 2048x1080 at 96fps (or 4096×2160 at 24fps).
olegk··on [60fps] Framerates do matter
Plasmas can produce 600fps.

Good LCDs can do 240fps. Many can do 120fps.

olegk··on Minimalism
It's stupid. He's comparing low-level Win32 API to a high-level wrapper called Qt.

Notice how in his Qt example he lost control of the window style, icon, brush, cursor, styling of the message box, and a dozen of other little things that you can do with low level win32 api.

olegk··on Beautiful mini language for outputing HTML in Python
Good HTML is hard to write. Look up HTML source of several major websites, and you will see how badly indented it is. 95% of them won't validate. Look at this page. It doesn't even have a doctype.
olegk··on The Big Zero
This decade has been really really good for IT, especially salary-wise. There were tons of successful startups.
olegk··on Court orders three H-1B opposition sites disabled
It's kind of scary that a website can be shut down just like that. I'm sure they will find hosting out of US jurisdiction anyway, but still, it almost seems like violation of freedom of speech. (p.s. I don't oppose H1B program)
olegk··on Court orders three H-1B opposition sites disabled
My friend on H1B makes $80/hr, so not all of them are "cheap".
olegk··on Torrent Search Engines Unlawful, U.S. Judge Says
Tell that to Google.
olegk··on Build a Business, win $100,000
Yeah, they should've specified "most net profit" instead of "most revenue".
olegk··on Number of Wikipedia editors steadily declining
No surprise here. I tried editing 3 or 4 articles, and every single time my additions were reverted, even if they were valid. There are too many power-tripping people on wikipedia.
olegk··on Pastebin which is able to run your code. Accepts 40 languages.
http://codepad.org is better, I don't have to see "Loading... waiting for compilation"
olegk··on What you'd build if you had 100 millions?

olegk··on Google Reduce Prices For Online Storage (20GB for $5/year, etc.)
I'm a semi-professional photographer, and I have around 3TB of photos. Pros can easily hit 16TB in a year or two.

HD videos are much much worse.

The main problem is how to upload all that stuff. Even at 20 mbit it would take 77 days to upload 16TB.

(16 terabytes) / (20 (megabit per second)) = 77.63 days

How many people have that kind of upload speed? I certainly don't.
