odie5533··on I spent $220 on Google app ads and 60% of the installs were robots
Did they like your app?
odie5533··on The Post-AI Internet Doesn't Look Great
We're coming up on 4 years into the AI-slop season of the internet. Just one more year and then we all go extinct?
odie5533··on Hardcore IndieWeb: Run your own website 100% independently for only $0.01/day
Github Pages is free hosting with domains and ssl, no bills, and has good longevity and prospects. I don't want to worry or think about a static site, and big players like Github and Cloudflare seem to fit that best.
odie5533··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
I believe he said Teslas are meant to appreciate in value too because you get income from renting them out when you're not using your car. They'll just drive around and work as a taxi while you're not using it.

He's more sci-fi author than CEO at this point.

odie5533··on We scaled PgBouncer to 4x throughput
Article should show the config:

[pgbouncer] listen_addr = 0.0.0.0 listen_port = 6432 so_reuseport = 1 peer_id = 1 unix_socket_dir = /tmp/pgbouncer1

[peers] 1 = host=/tmp/pgbouncer1 2 = host=/tmp/pgbouncer2 3 = host=/tmp/pgbouncer3 4 = host=/tmp/pgbouncer4

odie5533··on What's slowing down the AI buildout
Is that from the popularity of evs, or from data centers?
odie5533··on Muse Spark 1.1
If he deflates their revenues, who is going to rent the compute from Meta?
odie5533··on GPT‑Live
I'm not convinced wireheading the elderly is a good solution to their loneliness.
odie5533··on Backon – Python retry (zero deps, circuit breaker, async native)
Cool library! I always used Tenacity raw, didn't know about stamina! https://github.com/hynek/stamina
odie5533··on Farmer, marketer at odds over sales of white nectarines
Plant patents incentivize the creation of disease resistant, tasty, and hardy varieties. If you remove the patents, you remove the incentive for private capital.

Capital to create new plants has to come from somewhere: public tax funding, grower-funded pools, or patent licensing. We do a mix of all three.

odie5533··on Farmer, marketer at odds over sales of white nectarines
Essentially all commercial apple trees are grafted and don't reproduce true to seed. Been this way for almost a century now.
odie5533··on The unbearable cheapness of open weight models
If Anthropic announced AGI tomorrow, how much better would that model be than Fable 5? It's looking like the road to AGI is gradual and moat-less. Models seem capable of improving other models, and even without illegal distillations many are nipping at the heels of Anthropic.
odie5533··on The unbearable cheapness of open weight models
This is what concerns me about how AI giants are planning to make money. Their product has already been commoditized at prices which for them are still subsidized to grab market share. Unless the giants invent a technological leap, their prices are going to be dragged down by open weight models and I don't see how they'll turn a profit.
odie5533··on The worthlessness of Vitamin D is mildly exaggerated
Were you taking hard tablets? And were you taking them with a fatty meal?

Those are both very important. I take a Vitamin D + K2 softgel with a meal that has some fat in it.

odie5533··on Port React Compiler to Rust
These ports make me question the creators a little. They chose the wrong language to begin with, and then used an LLM to try to fix their mistake.
odie5533··on Claude Opus 4.8
The go to sleep issue is common and has nothing to do with your setup. I suspect it's because for the agent to predict the End of Response token, its response needs some kind of closing, and the most final kind of closing is something like "get some rest".
odie5533··on I think Anthropic and OpenAI have found product-market fit
If I generate code with Claude, ChatGPT, and GLM 5.1, I can't say which model is which reliably. I exclusively use Claude more out of superstition than reason.
odie5533··on Cloudflare Flagship
Do your running services receive streaming updates when Flags are toggled? Is your rule-engine evaluated locally?
odie5533··on Texas woman arrested for Facebook post about town water quality
The common saying is "you can beat the rap, but you can't beat the ride".
odie5533··on DeepSeek makes the V4 Pro price discount permanent
Inference is cheap. I bet the financials of these Chinese companies are much saner looking than any of the big US AI companies which are bloated by investors.
odie5533··on Uv is fantastic, but its package management UX is a mess
I appreciate these types of discussions. We should talk about the ux of our tools more often.

My flow is exact pins always, Renovate/Dependabot to inform me of new versions, or uv tree --outdated.

odie5533··on An OpenAI model has disproved a central conjecture in discrete geometry
I was promised a cure for cancer, but all I got was this disproof of an Erdos problem.
odie5533··on Setting up a free *.city.state.us locality domain (2025)
Seems like the primary use for locality domains is to explain to others how to get locality domains.
odie5533··on If AI writes your code, why use Python?
It's a free, permanent host for your blog articles with a built-in community and monetization layer. There's only so many free hosts out there that I'd be confident will be around in 5 years, and Medium is one of them.
odie5533··on GitLab announces workforce reduction and end of their CREDIT values
I have no doubt that with the properly applied power of AI, Gitlab too can make their product worse.
odie5533··on Bun's experimental Rust rewrite hits 99.8% test compatibility on Linux x64 glibc
Do you have any write ups on your workflow with Claude and github dev?
odie5533··on I’ve banned query strings
If I send out an email campaign, I can't use custom http headers to know that a user arrived from the newsletter.
odie5533··on The bottleneck was never the code
I've found the more senior you get, the code seems more fungible, and the process seems more important and difficult.
odie5533··on PyInfra 3.8.0
Does it have an equivalent to konstruktoid's hardening Ansible playbook?
odie5533··on Over 8M Thermos jars and bottles recalled after 3 people lost vision
My steam cleaner recently was recalled and sent me a new cap with a built-in pressure-locking valve. People were opening it too early and getting burns. Heat and pressure can be very dangerous.
