october_sky··on Apple Reports Declining Profits and Slowing Growth Again
> Because it only contains a conclusion, no premises whatsoever. Which is basically fuel for a flame-bait.

I was responding to the parent's comment about Apple TV (the premise) with my conclusion, which is a subjective opinion. Which ironically is the exact same thing as what you're doing. Wasn't trying to flame-bait, but I really didn't feel the need to add more. In summary, compared to other devices, I really do not like Apple TV.

What's wrong with modsec?
october_sky··on Apple Reports Declining Profits and Slowing Growth Again
Apple TV (and accompanying remote) is by far one of the worst UI/UX experiences I've seen.

Thanks for writing Cloud Custodian. What are you working on these days?
october_sky··on Tell me something important about IT that I don't know
Why not just research something you don't know much about? Like how embedded computers interface with a car.
october_sky··on Microsoft’s Q4 earnings and 2020 expectations
Except, those regulatory or business requirements also have business continuity and disaster recovery requirements from those same regulators, and Azure's region design is far inferior than alternatives.

> In that regard no retailer has this data. Not true, this is tracked by loyalty cards and to a lesser extent, by the credit cards that are used

october_sky··on Prime Video on Chromecast and Android TV, YouTube on Fire TV
AppleTV does not have everything, and the UI is horrible compared to many other devices I've seen.
october_sky··on Prime Video on Chromecast and Android TV, YouTube on Fire TV
I use my FireTV way more than my Chromecast. I think you'll be happy with it.

> where no human anywhere on Earth can look up and see an authentic sky, as their ancestors did.

The past ~80 years of light pollution has already prevented this from happening.

I love how amateur the physical machine looks, with all of that aluminum foil stuck to it and the wires falling about. This immediately reminded me of how my codebase looks whenever I am doing a proof-of-concept just to show someone that something is possible. "Let's get it working before we make it look pretty" -- what I imagined they said.

Do you have a source for this?

october_sky··on Amazon to shut down its Amazon Restaurants business in the U.S.
I'm hesitant to concur with you on the home inspection. The home inspector I've used several times has discovered termites, and other massive problems that would have cost me upwards of $40,000 on one specific house I was interested in buying. I paid a few hundred bucks to save myself from that headache.... The realtor on the other hand did almost zero
october_sky··on Antitrust Troubles Snowball for Tech Giants as Lawmakers Join In
The WP reported that Rep Cicilline said the "Internet is broken". I agree -- because the ISPs broke the internet, and Congress is letting the FCC allow that. Why aren't they fixing that?
october_sky··on Apple Pro Display XDR
By up-market, they're pushing themselves out of my market. $999 for a stand? No thanks, I can think of plenty of better things to spend $999 on.
october_sky··on Seasteading
The images here are charming, but there's not nearly enough population density in those to make them viable. The images display floating luxury homes complete with a yard.
october_sky··on Prevented mortality from historical and projected nuclear power (2013)
My wife and I started watching HBO's new mini-series "Chernobyl", and she's now terrified of nuclear power plants despite my reassurances. I'll have to show this to her, but based on this anecdote, I suspect more voters who see this TV show will also be biased against nuclear power.

Anyone else hear friends/family talking about this show as "terrifying" or "concerning"?

october_sky··on U.S. Warns Of Spy Dangers Of Chinese-Made Drones
They do. That's why governments have different departments (DHS and DOT in this case) and associated, prioritized budgets.
october_sky··on U.S. Warns Of Spy Dangers Of Chinese-Made Drones
This is not even the same Department. A government can and should have multiple simultaneous priorities.
october_sky··on Shipping a Linux Kernel with Windows
I can't help but think that this is 10 years too late. I gave up on Windows a long time ago, as did many people I know. I know there are folks who find this valuable, but I think Microsoft is chasing a pool of power users that has been consistently shrinking year-over-year. With that said, perhaps the pool will get bigger as it exposes users to the power of command line :-)

Clever. Do you have the intention to make more replacement parts for other products?
