obitoo··on A call to improve London's lighting at night
Quite a few members of the government do live in Islington
obitoo··on New Roomba Has Persistent Maps, Selective Room Cleaning, Automatic Dirt Disposal
Yes, the toys thing is great - we have the cleaning set at 10am every morning and you've never seen a kid scramble to tidy up so quickly as when she hears the robot start up!
obitoo··on Volvo signals 'end of the solely combustion engine-powered car'
Huge weight gain, with associated efficiency and handling compromises? Check
obitoo··on A DIY M&Ms and Skittles sorting machine
Indeed, I had these as a kid in the 80s. Coins are simply inserted in the top right and roll down before falling into a stack. Hours of fascination! https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/303781937345711623/
obitoo··on Pre-Safe Sound: Playing ‘pink noise’ in the split second before impact (2015)
Mine didnt - she continued to gaze at me wondering if I had any food.
obitoo··on DTrace for Linux 2016
In my experience thats not the case - its more like 'It works, no-one touch it! We're spending our money on more visible things' (several years later):- "Whats that, its no longer going to be supported? Damn, now we have to upgrade"
obitoo··on DNS-over-HTTPS
Its useful for reading your email on those 'free' wifi networks that require you to give your name, address mothers maiden name, and credit card before getting http access.
obitoo··on The smart home freak show stops here
Quookers are fantastic, but they're still hugely expensive - hundreds of Euro - compared to a kettle which can be picked up for a tenner
obitoo··on When a Video-Game World Ends
The end of the Wow Beta was pretty fun; giant elementals (raid boss size) attacked the major cities, most people weren't beyond level 20 and I'd certainly seen nothing like it before. Of course we couldnt make a dent in them but it was a unique (at the time) experience, well done Blizzard.
obitoo··on Decline of play and rise of sensory issues in preschoolers
Here he is , as i recall it was a kit http://www.classicacorn.freeuk.com/8bit_focus/logo/logo.html
obitoo··on Jon Ronson: How a Tweet Can Ruin Your Life
Rubbish. If someone feels some way about something I say when I never intended any harm to them by it then its entirely their problem. Her comparison with the schoolyard bully is moot, because there presumably would have been intent towards her in that case.
obitoo··on We Are All Confident Idiots
"...we don't know how genomes hold on to experiences and then pass them along to our offspring. "

Err they don't. That's Lamarckism theory, and I wasn't aware there was even a shred of evidence towards it.

Sometimes when you don't know how something happens, its because it isn't actually happening

obitoo··on New Site Recovers Files Locked by Cryptolocker Ransomware
Technically yes, but in practice only if the bad guys file charges and/or assist the authorities with evidence, ie their machines.
obitoo··on What Happens When Digital Cities Are Abandoned?
'Unix hippies' - indeed! I just had a flashback to the late eighties - the first MUD I became addicted to was in fact run by a long haired chap with very few teeth. Eventually met up with him at a computer fair that myself and a schoolfriend trekked into London for. I remember being accused ingame of using Macros to run straight to juicy loot after a reset, but no it was just my geeky 14yr old self remembering 40 or so N/S/E/W directions and typing ahead of the 75 baud connection. As if my C64 had macros! Happy Days
obitoo··on Agile Is Dead (Long Live Agility)
Excellent running analogy, i'm going to remember that!
obitoo··on Agile Is Dead (Long Live Agility)
senior management, of course
obitoo··on Cracking Linksys “Encryption”
Not to mention the complete lack of customer support
obitoo··on Frequency-shaped background noise generators
It is rather spooky at first, but once I got over that its excellent for blocking background office noise.

Now what would amuse me NO END would be if once, (and just once) after a few hours, it was coded to fade out and play a distinct voice along the lines of "You're going to die today". I'd love to do that to someone!

obitoo··on Google Maps for Android lose offline Maps - seriously?
Very useful when you're on an underground train - its a killer feature in London
obitoo··on Miro 4, the open source music and video player, is released
Mine has!
obitoo··on Typical programming interview questions.
yes of course thats a valid reply; the next question they'll ask you is "Can you think of another one?" and try to steer you towards it.
obitoo··on Typical programming interview questions.
Possibly the difference between "Computer Science" and "Computer Studies"?
