oafitupa··on Salary Negotiation
Are we still linking to this snake oil salesman?
oafitupa··on My time with Rails is up
You mean the first version of Symfony (Symfony 1, which was monolithic like Rails), and not the current Symfony (Symfony 2/3) which has nothing to do with the old one other than the name.
oafitupa··on My time with Rails is up
Another example is Symfony2, which is completely decoupled (not just loosely coupled). Oh but php programmers are bad, am I right HN?
oafitupa··on State of Starfighter
Uh, so how do I point out that the guy is a fraud? Did you read the whole sentence?
oafitupa··on The Sugar Conspiracy
"(the point is that people have confirmation bias even when things are 'easier' to prove)"
oafitupa··on Can a Living Creature Be as Big as a Galaxy?
The Universe is expanding, and some parts will never interact with other parts, because not even light could make the trip. One could say they are now in separate universes. So that's one limit I can think of.
oafitupa··on Can a Living Creature Be as Big as a Galaxy?
Intelligence maybe, but sentience? We haven't made any progress in that. We don't even know if science will ever be able to figure that out. See: the hard problem of consciousness.
oafitupa··on The NSA’s machine learning algorithm may be killing thousands of innocent people
Arrest them? They were in freaking Pakistan. Why would you arrest them? You guys are going crazy. Don't be surprised when you travel and realize the world hates you.
oafitupa··on The resolution of the Bitcoin experiment
> Still, all is not yet lost. Despite everything that has happened, in the past few weeks more members of the community have started picking things up from where I am putting them down. Where making an alternative to Core was once seen as renegade, there are now two more forks vying for attention (Bitcoin Classic and Bitcoin Unlimited). So far they’ve hit the same problems as XT but it’s possible a fresh set of faces could find a way to make progress.
oafitupa··on Paul Graham accidentally explained everything wrong with SV world view
> the single-most important issue of our society

I thought that was global warming?

oafitupa··on The Final Days of the Bitcoin Foundation?
The foundation is just a bunch of suits, whose only function is to educate other suits (eg: law makers). No one controls Bitcoin.
oafitupa··on The Final Days of the Bitcoin Foundation?
Core is not Bitcoin, it's just one of many clients that follow the Bitcoin protocol. There is no such thing as an "official" client or anything else in Bitcoin.
oafitupa··on The Final Days of the Bitcoin Foundation?
The foundation has no say whatsoever in the project.
oafitupa··on Lightning Network Skepticism
The block reward only halves, it doesn't "go away". Unless you are talking about when it can't halve anymore because of the 8 decimals limit, which we could just remove, just like Satoshi wanted (same situation as with block size limit).
oafitupa··on How to Become a Good Theoretical Physicist
What do you mean? :(
oafitupa··on The Best Books I Read in 2015
"Waking up: A guide to spirituality without religion" by neuroscientist and philosopher Sam Harris. Don't be so quick to dismiss it please, give it a try. It's not mysticism.
oafitupa··on Prescription painkiller deaths fall in medical marijuana states
Plants can't "prefer", they are not conscious beings.
oafitupa··on Prescription painkiller deaths fall in medical marijuana states
But removing the need for big pharmacological laboratories definitely makes it better. No more ridiculous prices, no more hidden corporate interests, etc. Just you and your plant, like nature "wanted" it to be.
oafitupa··on China to begin two-child policy
> Some tried giving Arab countries democracy and it turned out they never really wanted it and most of the dictators were much better alternative

Is that what they teach in American schools? Let's see how you cope with this:

oafitupa··on China to begin two-child policy
Any suggestions?
oafitupa··on How the banks ignored the lessons of the crash
Doesn't seem like a failure for the people at the top.
oafitupa··on Show HN: My experimental take on a decentralized ledger
What do you like about Stellar? It's not decentralized at all. Being premined is just the icing on the cake.
oafitupa··on Show HN: My experimental take on a decentralized ledger
Stellar is 100% centralized. In fact, its owners took it down at some point to change some rules.
oafitupa··on Galaxy Quest
Yeah who cares about saving humanity from extinction. Let's just stay here with out families and our 4x4's until we drown. Real heroes.

oafitupa··on Ask HN: What are you doing to improve your health?
No, it's the correct way. Maybe I didn't describe it properly (not a native speaker). There is a reason why many shoulder press seats are slightly inclined backwards.
oafitupa··on DEA Orchestrates Disinformation Campaign to Conceal Surveillance Powers

oafitupa··on Ask HN: What are you doing to improve your health?
And why is that good?
oafitupa··on Ask HN: What are you doing to improve your health?
- Stop drinking, replace it with weed if necessary.

- Run or lift weights, or both. But be careful with your back (keep it straight) and shoulders (lift the weight in front/above your head, not directly above. Same for pullups) when lifting, and your knees when running (land with your metatarsus first, not your heel).

- Sleep and eat well.

oafitupa··on Ask HN: What are you doing to improve your health?
Why would you ask such a question? If anything made you a loser, it would be worrying about whether others think you are a loser.
